Abstract

Plastic wastes have serious impact for enviroment and human health. The production of envi-ronmentally friendly plastics (bioplastics) is an alternative to reduce plastic waste which difficult to decompose. Banana tree lump can be utilised as the composite material in bioplastics pro-duction because contains cellulose and starch. Plasticizer substance is required to produce e-lastic plastic. Glycerol is known as best plasticizer compared to other materials. The purpose of the research was to determine the best level of degradation, tensile strength, and elongation value of bioplastics made from banana tree lump flour and glycerol. The experiment employed post test only with control group design. The experiment groups were consisted of three treat-ment groups, i.e. 3:12, 4:12, and 5:12 compositions and one control group; whose composition in each group were 3 gr, 4 gr, 5 gr and 0 gr lump flour with 12 ml of glycerol, respectively. The bioplastics were made by mixing all the materials at temperature of 60-70 0C, and then formed. There were three replications and the data obtained were analysed by using multivariate anova test and LSD test at 0,05 level of signifiance. The results showed that the addition of banana tree lump flour affects the degradation rate, tensile strength and elongation value of the bioplas-tics. The 5;12 composition yielded the the best degradation rate, i.e. 27.88 % every 3 day mea-sured by soil burial test, as well as the best tensile strength (20.08 kg/cm2). While, for elonga-tion value, the control gave the best result, i.e.26.67 %.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by dengue viruses which is transmittedthrough Aedes aegypti mosquito bite. DHF is mainly found in tropic areas and often leads tooutbreak. One way to prevent this disease is using repellent. One of the ingredients that can beused as a natural repellent is the extract of kenikir (Cosmos caudatus). For ease use as repellent, the extract can be applied in soap bars. The objective of the study was to know the influence of soap bar with kenikir extract formulation on the repelling power for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, and to know the most effective formulation, by conducting an experiment with pre-testpost-test with contol group design. The extract formulation used in this research was 9 ml, 11 ml,and 13 ml. The data were analyzed statistically by using one-way Anova and LSD (least signifycant different) tests, and the results show that the mosquito repelling powers obtained from various soap bar with extract kenikir formulation were significantly different (p-value = 0,008). Kenikir extracted soap bars which is meet the mosquito repellent standard were the first and thirdreplication of 13 formulation (i.e.100 % and 94 %, respectively) and the third replication of 100 mlformulation (100 %). To conclude, the most effective kenikir concentration is 13 ml.

Abstract

Community health centre is place where healthy and ill people met, so that it is potential as diseases transmission site. The measurement of aerial bacteria number in Sewon II CommunityHealth Centre exceeded the 516 CFU/m3threshold. Volatile oil of jasmine (Jasmine sambac) canbe used as natural disinfectant because it has antibacterial compounds. The objective of thisstudy was to know the effect of evaporation time of jasmine (Jasmine sambac) volatile oil on thedecrease of aerial bacteria number. The study was a pre-experiment with one group pre-testpost-test design. The aerial bacteria were sampled in the martenal and children ward of Sewon IICommunity Health Centre, and then were examined at Microbiology Laboratory of The Polytechnic of Health of Yogyakarta. The results showed that the 3% volatile oil of jasmine (Jasminesambac) in 30 minutes evaporation time was able to decrease bacterial number as much as11.67 CFU/m3 (16.64 %), while in 60 minutes it was 38.22 CFU/m3 (40.92 %), and in 90 minutesit was 65.00 CFU/m3(56.31 %). Statistical analysis with one way anova test obtained a p-value?0.05 which means that the decrase difference between the three evaporation times is significant; and the 90 minutes time evaporation give the highest decrease.

Abstract

Yogyakarta’s Giwangan Market is a traditional market that non-stop open fo 24 hours, becauseit is the main market for fruits and vegetables. The waste generated from Giwangan Marketmostly in the form of organic waste, one of which is tomatoes waste. Tomato is a seasonal fruit, that have limited shelf life, i.e. only 3 days. Based on the preliminary survey, the average of tomato waste produced by all tomato seller in this market is 500 kilograms a day. The alternativesolution for this problem is changing the waste become liquid organic fertilizer. This researchwas a true experiment with post test only group design. There were two ingredient compositions used for yielding the fertilizer. Composition A was consisted of 10 kg tomat waste, 500ml molase, 100 ml used water of rice washing, 1000 ml old coconut water, and 7 liter clean water; and Composition B used same ingredients, except only 5 kg tomato waste. The data wereanalysed by using one way anova LSD tests at 0,05 significance level. The results of measurement of N, P dan K contents gained from Composition A and Composition B have not fulfilledthe requirement set by SNI 19-7030-2004; but for pH, the best results was from the Composition A. Suggestions for researchers who want to continue this study are: before making the liquid organic fertilizer, the waste tomatoes should be dried first; and any other vegetables orfruits containing potassium, nitrogen or phosphorus may be added in order to obtain better results

Abstract

One of the government's efforts in tackling the problems of cold lava flood victims of post Merapieruption was building temporary shelter houses or known as huntara. Similar with the common houses, the sanitation facilities of those shelter houses also need maintainance in order to minimize the potentiality of disease spreading. Therefore, the objective of the study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude among housewives on healthy andclean living behavior (PHBS) with the cleanliness and the management of sanitation facilities of shelter houses located at Gempol Village of Jumoyo, Salam, Magelang. The study was a cross sectional survey which involved 80 sampled housewives. The data which were analysed by using chi square test, showed that there are significant correlations between above study variables (p-values < 0.001). Based on that results, it is advised for the housewives to raise their efforts in maintaining and treating the shelter houses which they are living in and always to put into practice the healthy and clean living behavior for their family’s daily activities.

Abstract

Students of Educational Informatics Engineering of State University of Yogyakarta have frequency and duration of laptop use that is higher than students from other departments have. Laptopuse which does not properly fit with ergonomical standards may lead to specific adverse healthimpacts. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between duration, frequency, laptop size, and position of laptop use and the musculoskeletal complaints among those students. The research method was survey with cross sectional approach. The research samplewas 86 students from semester IV and VI who were selected by accidental and purposive sampling techniques. The data were collected by using a questionnaire and furthermore were analysed with chi-square and contingency coefficient at 95 % level of confidence. The results showthat only 7,0 % respondents used laptop in low-duration, only 1,1 % used laptop in low-frequency, only 3,5 % used large sized laptop, and only 9,3 % used laptop with good position. Therewere 45,3 % of respondents who had moderate musculoskeletal complaints. Parts of the bodywhich were most complained are neck, shoulders, and waist meanwhile the least ones are elbows and arms. From the statistical analyses it is identified that laptop use position has thestrongest relationship with the disorders (contigency coefficient = 0,348 and p-value = 0,064). Itis advised that information regarding with the correct use of the laptop and the impact of the unergonomical laptop use have to be socialized among the students in order to avoid them fromunwanted health problems risk.
