Abstract

This research analyzes how disciplinary power is represented through the character of Paul Atreides in the film Dune (2021) by drawing on Michel Foucault's theory of disciplinary power. As a political science fiction film, Dune (2021) depicts Paul's journey as the heir to House Atreides, who has been under strict supervision, training, and rules since his birth. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze scenes, dialogue, and visuals that demonstrate disciplinary practices such as surveillance, normalizing judgment, examinations, training of the body, habit formation, and internalization. The results show that power in Dune (2021) does not operate oppressively, but rather subtly through disciplinary mechanisms that shape Paul's behavior, identity, and self-awareness. This process transforms Paul from a young man under surveillance into someone who manages himself and is ready to become a leader. Overall, this research concludes that power in Dune (2021) plays a significant role in shaping Paul Atreides' identity through six mechanisms of disciplinary power.

Abstract

The film Atlas (2024) presents anxiety about the development of artificial intelligence through the psychological conflict of its main character. This study discusses the issue of trauma and fear of Artificial Intelligence (AI) experienced by Atlas Shepherd due to a traumatic experience in the past. The main objective of this study is to identify the types of defense mechanisms used by Atlas Shepherd and also explain how these mechanisms help Atlas face trauma and fear of AI. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a psychoanalytic approach based on Anna Freud's theory. Data were obtained from dialogues, scenes, and actions of the main character in the film Atlas (2024) that show psychological conflicts and emotional responses. The results show that Atlas Shepherd uses four main defense mechanisms: denial, repression, projection, and rationalization. Denial is the most dominant mechanism, followed by other mechanisms, which function as psychological strategies to reduce anxiety and protect oneself from emotional distress. These findings confirm the relevance of psychoanalytic theory in understanding psychological conflicts in contemporary science fiction films.

Abstract

This research examines the representation of power relations and class conflict in the film Bullet Train (2022) directed by David Leitch by applying a Marxist perspective. The purposes of this research are to analyze how power is portrayed among the characters and to identify how class conflict is represented in the film. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data are collected from scenes, dialogues, character actions, and visual elements in the film. The data are analyzed using Marxist theory, particularly concepts of bourgeoisie and proletariat, exploitation, hegemony, alienation, and class struggle. The results of this research show that power in Bullet Train is dominated by characters who control capital and organizational structures, particularly the White Death, who represents the bourgeois class. Meanwhile, characters such as Ladybug and other assassins represent the proletariat who sell their labor and operate under systems they do not control. Class conflict is represented through fragmented and individualized struggles among the working-class characters, where competition replaces solidarity. The train functions as a metaphor for capitalist society, symbolizing confinement, hierarchy, and continuous conflict driven by capital. This research concludes that Bullet Train is not only an action-comedy film, but also a cultural text that reflects capitalist power structures and ongoing class conflict in contemporary society.

Abstract

Lacanian psychoanalysis is a framework that helps interpret the hidden subconscious meanings in a film’s story and the psychology of its characters. The Menu (2022) presents Chef Slowik not only as a villain, but also as a deeply disturbed individual who suffers from psychological problems, including psychopathic tendencies. He loses his original passion for cooking and can no longer express his identity or emotions through food. This failure to communicate with others through his dishes reflects Lacan’s idea of failed self-expression and gradually leads to Slowik’s psychological collapse. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study examines how Chef Slowik’s objet petit a represents his inner sense of lack and how it eventually turns into jouissance, functioning as a form of criticism toward the Symbolic Order represented by Hawthorne restaurant. The findings show that Slowik’s objet petit a appears through dialogue and objects in the film, and it is this desire that ultimately drives his actions, speech, and the dishes he serves to elite guests as a critique of the existing Symbolic Order.

Abstract

Papaya (Carica papaya L.) is recognized as a tropical fruit with a high nutritional value, rich in vitamins and minerals. Processing papaya seeds into papaya seed coffee is an innovative alternative to becoming a commercial product. To support the development of papaya seed coffee as a natural-based functional ingredient, it is necessary to evaluate its biological activities, particularly ultraviolet radiation protection and antioxidant activity. The aim of this research is to investigate sunscreen activity and antioxidant activity of papaya seed coffee. Sunscreen activity was assessed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, and antioxidant activity was determined through the DPPH method. The sunscreen activity test showed erythema transmission (%Te) values ranging from 0.112% to 1.858% and pigmentation transmission (%Tp) values between 4.230% and 5.814%, which fall into the sunblock to extra protection categories. The SPF values ranged from 17.846 to 19.262, classified as ultra protection. These results indicate that papaya seed coffee has strong potential as an active ingredient for UV protection. The IC50 value of 6.468 mg/L indicates that papaya seed coffee possesses very strong antioxidant properties. Pengolahan biji pepaya menjadi kopi biji pepaya merupakan alternatif inovatif untuk menjadi produk komersial. Untuk mendukung pemanfaatan kopi biji pepaya sebagai bahan fungsional berbasis sumber alam, diperlukan pengujian aktivitas biologis yang meliputi kemampuan perlindungan terhadap radiasi ultraviolet serta aktivitas antioksidan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan aktivitas tabir surya dan aktivitas antioksidan kopi biji pepaya. Aktivitas tabir surya dinilai menggunakan spektrofotometri UV-Vis, dan aktivitas antioksidan ditentukan melalui metode DPPH. Uji aktivitas tabir surya menunjukkan nilai transmisi eritema (%Te) berkisar antara 0,112% hingga 1,858% dan nilai transmisi pigmentasi (%Tp) antara 4,230% dan 5,814%, yang termasuk dalam kategori tabir surya hingga perlindungan ekstra. Nilai SPF berkisar antara 17,846 hingga 19,262, diklasifikasikan sebagai perlindungan ultra. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa kopi biji pepaya memiliki potensi yang kuat sebagai bahan aktif untuk perlindungan UV. Nilai IC50 sebesar 6,468 mg/L menunjukkan bahwa kopi biji pepaya memiliki sifat antioksidan yang sangat kuat. Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of STEM-integrated project-based learning (PBL) in enhancing prospective physics teachers' TPACK mastery within an online multimedia physics course. Employing a mixed-methods embedded design, 18 prospective physics teachers at Universitas Islam Negeri Antasari Banjarmasin engaged in a five-stage STEM-PBL framework reflection, research, discovery, application, and communication via a learning management system, culminating in educational video projects and lesson plans assessed using a validated TPACK rubric. Descriptive analysis revealed that the majority of students (67.1%) attained moderate TPACK proficiency, with 16.7% achieving high and 22.2% low categories. Although female students demonstrated marginally higher mean scores (M = 82.1) compared to males (M = 81.8), Mann-Whitney tests confirmed no statistically significant gender differences across any TPACK dimension (p > 0.05). These findings contribute empirical evidence that STEM-integrated PBL delivered through online platforms effectively fosters technological, pedagogical, and content competencies among prospective teachers, addressing the growing demand for digitally competent educators. The study underscores the pedagogical value of structured, project-based approaches in teacher preparation programs and offers practical implications for designing online learning environments that integrate STEM principles to develop 21st-century teaching competencies.

Abstract

Program pelatihan pembuatan kompos di Kelurahan Meruya Utara dilaksanakan sebagai upaya untuk mengatasi permasalahan lingkungan sekaligus meningkatkan pendapatan masyarakat. Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi meliputi meningkatnya volume sampah daun, belum adanya tata cara pengelolaan limbah organik, rendahnya kondisi ekonomi masyarakat, serta munculnya binatang melata akibat tumpukan sampah. Melalui pendekatan berbasis komunitas, kegiatan ini dirancang dengan tahapan sosialisasi, pelatihan, penerapan teknologi, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Pelatihan mencakup manajemen rantai pasok sampah, penggunaan alat pencacah daun, teknik pembuatan kompos, serta pelatihan desain label, kemasan ramah lingkungan, dan strategi penetapan harga. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam mengelola limbah organik, berkurangnya volume sampah, serta terciptanya produk pupuk kompos berkualitas yang memiliki nilai ekonomi. Program ini sejalan dengan Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11 dan SDG 12) serta mendukung pemberdayaan ekonomi rakyat kecil. Dengan adanya pendampingan berkelanjutan, diharapkan keberhasilan program dapat dipertahankan dan dikembangkan ke wilayah lain yang menghadapi tantangan serupa.

Abstract

Literasi keuangan pada remaja merupakan fondasi penting dalam membentuk perilaku finansial yang bertanggung jawab dan berkelanjutan. Meskipun tingkat literasi keuangan nasional menunjukkan tren peningkatan, kelompok usia pelajar masih memerlukan penguatan edukasi yang aplikatif dan kontekstual. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan literasi keuangan dan pemahaman investasi dini pada siswa SMP Bunda Hati Kudus Jakarta Barat. Survei awal terhadap 150 siswa menunjukkan hanya 12% yang mencatat pengeluaran secara rutin dan 92% belum memahami konsep menabung jangka panjang. Intervensi dilakukan melalui pelatihan interaktif enam sesi berbasis praktik yang mencakup konsep uang, kebutuhan dan keinginan, penyusunan anggaran, pencatatan keuangan digital, serta pengenalan konsep bunga dan inflasi. Evaluasi menggunakan pre-test dan post-test (20 item) serta observasi perilaku selama dua minggu. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan rata-rata skor literasi dari 42 menjadi 78 (kenaikan 36 poin; p < 0,05), peningkatan kebiasaan pencatatan menjadi 85%, serta peningkatan pemahaman menabung jangka panjang hingga 90%. Program ini efektif dalam membangun perilaku finansial positif berbasis experiential learning dan teknologi digital, serta berpotensi direplikasi pada jenjang pendidikan menengah pertama.
