Abstract

The Wela-wela tradition is a deeply rooted cultural practice that plays a significant role in the wedding ceremonies of certain Indonesian communities. This tradition is rich in symbolism and is carried out in three distinct phases, each holding its own cultural significance. The process begins with a deliberation or consultation among the families involved, highlighting the communal aspect of the tradition. The first phase of the Wela-wela occurs when the groom arrives at the bride's house, specifically in front of the sabuah (a ceremonial tent), marking the initial formal meeting between the two families. This moment is crucial as it symbolizes the groom's respectful approach and request for the bride's hand in marriage. The second phase takes place at the front door of the bride's house, where the groom is met with another Wela-wela, representing a more intimate acceptance by the bride's family. This step underscores the importance of familial consent and the gradual transition of the bride from her family to the groom. The final Wela-wela occurs when the groom comes to escort the bride to their new home, symbolizing the completion of the union. This tradition not only serves to honor the bride and her family but also adds a festive and respectful atmosphere to the wedding ceremony. Through these rituals, the Wela-wela tradition reinforces the values of respect, family unity, and cultural heritage, making it a vital component of the wedding process.

Abstract

The history of the arrival of Chinese ethnic groups in Indonesia is generally uncertain, and this is also true for their arrival on Geser Island. Even if there are sources that document the arrival of the Chinese, they are mostly based on local folklore and some evidence left by Chinese descendants who still live there today, some of whom have intermarried with the indigenous people of Geser. The issues examined in this study are as follows: 1) What was the process of the Chinese community's arrival on Geser Island? 2) How have the dynamics between the Chinese community and the local population on Geser Island evolved? To address these questions, the research method used is historical research, which consists of four stages: Heuristics, Verification, Interpretation, and Historiography, while also employing relevant theories and concepts from social sciences. The objectives of this study are to explain the process of the Chinese community's arrival on Geser Island and their interactions with the local community. It can be observed from the involvement of the Chinese community in the practice of local customs and culture that they have integrated into their lives. To this day, the Chinese community plays a significant role in various sectors of life on Geser Island, both in the economic and political realms. It is evident from the term "Cina Geser" used to refer to some Chinese-descended politicians, including members of the East Seram Regency Regional House of Representatives and even the current Acting Secretary of the Maluku Provincial Government, who is of Chinese descent.

Abstract

This study examines the Hende Hora marriage tradition among the Buton community in Tomi-Tomi Hamlet, Waesala District, West Seram Regency. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. According to Bogdan and Taylor (in Moleong, 2005), qualitative methods produce descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from people and observable behaviour. This research focuses on understanding social phenomena from various participants' perspectives. Data sources were obtained from traditional leaders, community leaders, religious figures, and documentation related to the Hende Hora marriage tradition. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and document analysis. The research findings indicate that the Hende Hora marriage is a solution for community members who wish to marry despite lacking sufficient wealth. The process includes traditional rituals such as kabubusikakeno (foot washing) and kapusuko (draping with cloth). Although performed, this marriage is still respected and holds value equal to other traditional marriages in Southeast Sulawesi. The religious and cultural values embedded in this tradition highlight the importance of customs in shaping personality and social relationships within the Buton community. This study confirms that the Hende Hora tradition is still maintained and recognized in Tomi-Tomi Hamlet.

Abstract

This research uses the Library Research method because the data is obtained through various sources in the form of books, excyclopedias, journals, documents, etc. In general, the data contained in research results are obtained from articles published online in various national journals, and research reports from the Maluku TP2GD Team, as well as articles published in online media that are relevant to the research. The steps taken include collecting library data, reading, taking notes, and comparing literature and then processing it and producing conclusions. Meanwhile, the data analysis used is content analysis. The data collected is descriptive textual data, so processing the data uses analysis according to its content, which is called content analysis. The research results explain that A.M.'s struggle. Sangadji was hit by a spirit of nationalism due to policies implemented by the Dutch East Indies government which tended to be unfair to the native people. Apart from that, the meaning of leadership for an A.M. Sangadji is more about the role and function of a leader. This means that the leader understands only his structural position, but more about his role in fighting for the interests of the wider community without looking at a particular region or region. So the biography of A.M. Sangadji, when applied as a learning resource in history learning, can strengthen students' spirit of nationalism and leadership.

Abstract

Smoking behavior is seen from the perspective of being considered very detrimental, both for oneself and others around it. This has never subsided and seems to be a behavior that is still acceptable by society. The purpose of Community Service is to improve attitudes and knowledge of smoking cessation programs for high school students in the city of Makassar through socialization and health education. The method of implementing PkM activities used in the community service program is participatory training and role play and is carried out with a group approach, namely meetings with a group of target students. The results show that the level of knowledge increased by more than 50% after the Socialization and Health Education activities were carried out. This shows that this community service activity has succeeded in increasing students' knowledge of smoking cessation programs and prevention methods. The conclusion is that students' knowledge has increased to stop smoking based on the results of the pre-test and post-test and the PkM TEAM expects schools to provide information and socialization and health education in the form of warnings and prohibitions, especially for male students so that they are not influenced by smoking behavior from an early age, both during school hours and outside school hours.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is an important indicator in improving public health. Socioeconomic factors are believed to influence health behavior patterns, particularly in heterogeneous urban communities. This study aims to determine the relationship between socioeconomic status and PHBS in urban communities. The research method used was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 120 households was selected using purposive sampling in urban areas. The research instrument was a questionnaire measuring socioeconomic status (education, occupation, and income) and PHBS. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant relationship between socioeconomic status and PHBS (p < 0.05). It was concluded that the better a person's socioeconomic status, the more likely they are to implement PHBS in their daily lives. These findings are expected to form the basis for community-based health intervention programs in urban areas.

Abstract

Requiring the publication of scientific papers as one of the graduation requirements for undergraduate programs is a challenge for students. So this training was carried out to provide students with an understanding of the steps in registering and submitting articles to OJS. The method used in this training is an introduction to the OJS system and training to submit scientific articles via OJS. Training to submit scientific articles through OJS apart from introducing the OJS system, the next stage of activity is training to submit scientific articles through OJS. The aim is to provide knowledge and skills for students in writing scientific articles and registering and submitting scientific articles through OJS. Apart from that, the service team carries out evaluations related to activities in the form of: Routine mentoring once every semester. This is done to check whether students can/have actually submitted scientific articles via OJS. Periodic review every three months twice during one semester. This is done to share knowledge and insight with students that in writing scientific articles there are still many levels that need to be understood.
