Abstract

Background: Hypertension in pregnancy is a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, contributing to 14% of global maternal deaths. In Indonesia, it is the second leading cause of maternal mortality. Knowledge is an important determinant of health behavior, yet its link to pregnancy-induced hypertension remains underexplored in Sukabumi. Objective: To analyze the relationship between pregnant women’s knowledge and the incidence of hypertension in pregnancy. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted with 44 pregnant women diagnosed with hypertension in the Amarylis Room, Bhakti Medicare Hospital, Sukabumi (November–December 2024). Data were collected using a validated 15-item questionnaire. Knowledge level (good, sufficient, poor) and hypertension severity (mild, severe) were analyzed with the chi-square test (p < 0.05). Results: Most respondents had poor knowledge (45.5%) and severe hypertension (52.3%). Chi-square analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge and hypertension incidence (p = 0.002). Severe hypertension was more frequent among women with poor knowledge (36.4%) compared to those with good knowledge (2.3%). Conclusion: Maternal knowledge significantly influences the incidence of hypertension in pregnancy. Educational interventions are urgently needed to reduce risks and improve maternal health outcomes.

Abstract

Background: Adherence to blood-boosting tablet consumption among adolescent girls is vital for preventing anemia and maintaining optimal hemoglobin levels to support overall health. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between adherence to blood-boosting tablet consumption and anemia incidence among adolescent girls. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted among 36 randomly selected grade VII students at SMPN 16 Sukabumi City, using the MMAS-8 questionnaire for adherence and the Homovue tool for hemoglobin measurement, analyzed with the Kendall tau test. Results: The findings revealed a significant relationship between adherence and anemia incidence, with a p-value of 0.002 (<0.05). Students with low adherence showed a higher prevalence of anemia, while those with moderate to high adherence maintained normal hemoglobin levels. The results also indicated that knowledge, motivation, and family support influenced adherence behavior. These findings confirm that consistent consumption of blood-boosting tablets effectively reduces anemia risk among adolescents. Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between adherence to blood-boosting tablet intake and anemia prevention, highlighting the importance of continuous education, motivation, and parental involvement to improve adolescent health outcomes.

Abstract

Last November 2022, Cianjur Regency was hit by an earthquake which left deep wounds. Not only causing fatalities, missing people, minor and serious injuries, damage to residential buildings, infrastructure and other public facilities was also badly damaged. Not only that, the post-disaster impact that emerged was on ongoing problem that arose at the evacuation post (tent), namely the emergence of several diseases, one of which was a problem, comorbid disease (hypertension). One of the actions to reduce the incidence of hypertension is to increase knowledge and support of the patient’s family. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge, especially to the family of hypertensive patients whose and result can provide adequate support for controlling reccurence in hypertensive patients. The method used is directing counseling through media, leafleats and flipcharts as well as evaluation in the form of pre and post tests. The results obtained showed that of the 107 participants who received counseling, the participants’ knowledge increased, participants with the good knowledge were 56 (52.33%), participants with sufficient knowledge incrased to 34 (31,77%) and participants with less knowledge decreased to 17 (15.89%) participants. Therefore health education must be carried out regularly within a certain period of time, of course not only knowledge needs to be increased but social support from the family greatly influences hypertensive patients to control their disease.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem caused by chronic malnutrition and poor sanitation practices, particularly in developing countries. Adolescents, especially girls, play a crucial role in stunting prevention as future mothers, yet their knowledge related to clean and healthy living behaviors is often limited. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) education on the knowledge level of adolescent girls as an effort to prevent stunting. A quantitative pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted among 68 female students at SMP ITech Pasim Ar-Rayyan using total sampling. Data were collected through structured pretest and posttest questionnaires, followed by PHBS education delivered through lectures and discussions. Data analysis included univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a substantial increase in the mean knowledge score from 65.22 before the intervention to 98.09 after the intervention, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that PHBS education significantly improves adolescents’ knowledge regarding stunting prevention. This study implies that structured health education programs in junior high schools are effective strategies to strengthen early stunting prevention efforts and promote long-term healthy behaviors among adolescent girls
