Abstract

Patient safety is a form of health service that is safe for patients. To increase students' understanding of patient safety, teachers need to use teaching methods that are interesting to students. Team-based learning (TBL) is an active learning model in small teams that is expected to equip students with patient safety skills. This study aims to determine the effect of TBL on students' understanding of patient safety by reviewing the literature. Article searches were carried out through three databases, namely Scopus, PubMed, and Science Direct. Search results using the keywords "team-based learning", "patient safety," and "students" found 10,843 articles. From the articles collected, the researchers screened for duplicates and suitability of titles and abstracts, and the results found 121 articles. Of the 121 articles, researchers screened them again using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) instrument and adjusted the inclusion criteria to obtain 7 articles that met the review requirements. The results of this literature review show four themes of the influence of TBL on student learning: TBL increases understanding of patient safety concepts, develops critical thinking skills, and encourages active student participation in learning, communication, and teamwork. It was also found that three factors supported the success of TBL in increasing understanding of patient safety: trained facilitators, learning material design, and formative evaluation.

Abstract

Interprofessional collaboration between health workers is essential to ensure quality and patient-centered healthcare delivery, especially in public health care or in Indonesian called as pusat kesehatan Masyarakat or Puskesmas. Understanding the differences in interprofessional attitudes between doctors and nurses is crucial, as these attitudes directly affect teamwork and the quality of patient care. Objective: To examine the variances of interprofessional attitudes between doctors and nurses within Puskesmas settings. This study used quantitative design and cross-sectional approach. This study was attended by 71 respondents with details of 26 doctors and 45 nurses from five different psukesmas. Data were collected using the Interprofessional Attitude Scale (IPAS) questionnaire distributed via google form media. The data were then analyzed using SPSS software with the Mann-Whitney test. The mean score for all domains was categorized as excellent (>85.06) with the highest score belonging to the “diversity and ethics” domain. While the lowest mean score was owned by the “interprofessional bias” domain with a total of (85.06), but still classified as good. Significant results were found in differences in attitudes based on profession (p = 0.000), but not on gender (p = 0.422) or work experience (p = 0.322).  Interprofessional attitudes between doctors and nurses at Puskesmas are generally well-established. Significant differences in attitudes were seen based on professional roles but not based on gender or length of work experience. Efforts to strengthen the understanding of interprofessional collaboration are recommended to further improve collaboration. Keywords: Doctor, interprofessional attitudes, interprofessional collaboration, nurses, Puskesmas

Abstract

The most common infertility causes among couples at AMC are oligoasthenoteratozoospermia in males (40%) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in females (40%). This study aimed to develop an interprofessional collaboration model for the management of PCOS at the Reproductive and IVF Clinic of AMC Muhammadiyah Hospital, with the goal of improving patients’ medication adherence and therapy effectiveness. As the initial phase, a PCOS health education webinar was conducted to enhance participants’ knowledge and attitudes toward PCOS prevention and management. A pre- and post-test design was employed using an online questionnaire distributed via Google Forms to PCOS community members in Yogyakarta. The instrument assessed participants’ knowledge of PCOS, medication adherence, and perceptions of interprofessional collaborative management. Data was analyzed using SPSS software. Thirty-one women participated, of whom 14 (36%) had PCOS, with a median age of 27 years (range: 18–62). The educational webinar significantly improved participants’ understanding of PCOS (p < 0.000), particularly in terms of knowledge and attitudes regarding its prevention and management. The health education webinar effectively enhanced participants’ knowledge and attitudes toward PCOS prevention and management, highlighting the potential of interprofessional collaboration–based education to support comprehensive reproductive health care.
