Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of an intervention aimed at enhancing early childhood education (PAUD) teachers' understanding and application of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and PJBL (Project-Based Learning). The intervention included professional development sessions, followed by pre-test and post-test assessments. Results indicated significant improvements in teachers' knowledge and pedagogical skills. The teachers' modules, created post-intervention, covered diverse themes such as disaster mitigation, resource management, and environmental conservation, reflecting their ability to integrate STEM and PJBL into engaging activities. The significant increase in post-test scores demonstrated the intervention's success in equipping teachers with the necessary skills to design and implement STEM-based learning using the PJBL approach. These findings suggest that such interventions are effective in enhancing early childhood educators' capabilities, ultimately benefiting young learners by providing them with enriching, real-life applicable educational experiences. This study highlights the importance of continuous professional development in advancing educational practices.

Abstract

This community service program is carried out to assist early childhood education institutions in Banyuwangi in developing more interactive literacy learning through the Playing with Books program. The problem encountered is the continued use of conventional methods in literacy development, where books are only read aloud using a one-way storytelling method without two-way communication between teachers and children. The goal of this program is to provide teachers with an understanding of fun literacy programs for children through the Playing with Books program. The implementation methods include planning, conducting training, and evaluation. The training was held in May 2024, involving 21 early childhood education teachers from various institutions in Banyuwangi. The results of this program indicate an improvement in teachers' understanding of more interactive and enjoyable literacy teaching methods for children.

Abstract

Kemampuan numerik pada anak menjadi hal yang mendasar dalam kehidupan anak di masa berikutnya. Rendahnya kemampuan numerik pada anak usia 4-5 tahun menyebabkan anak kesulitan untuk dapat mengenal simbol angka di sekitarnya. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh media Timang (Timbangan angka) terhadap kemampuan numerik anak. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari media Timbangan angka terhadap kemampuan numerik anak usia 4-5 tahun. Penelitian dilakukan di TK Taman Ananda, Wiyung Surabaya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu pre-experimental design dengan bentuk desain one group pretest-posttest design. Terdapat pre test dan post test pada satu kelompok yang sama untuk mengukur hasil sesuai dengan treatment yang diberikan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya pengaruh dari media “Timang” (Timbangan angka). Nilai signifikansi (2-tailed) sebesar 0.007, yang berarti kurang dari 0,05. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari media alat permainan Timang terhadap kemampuan berpikir simbolik numerik pada anak. Hal tersebut membuktikan bahwa media Timang memiliki pengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir simbolik numerik seperti menghitung bilangan dengan benda konkrit, mencocokkan jumlah benda, dan menghitung benda 1-10 pada kelompok A usia 4-5 tahun.

Abstract

Berdasarkan PISA 2022, skor literasi sains Indonesia turun dari 396 menjadi 383, sementara Thailand dari 426 menjadi 409. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi perbedaan keterampilan literasi sains pada anak usia 4-5 tahun di PAUD Indonesia dan Thailand. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kuantitaif pada desain ex post facto dengan 41 anak sebagai sampel, 21 dari RA Aulia, Surabaya, Indonesia dan 22 dari Darulmuyaheedeen, Padang Besar, Thailand. Analisis independent samples t-test menunjukkan nilai 0,775 (> 0,05), terindikasi tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada kedua negara, meskipun Thailand memiliki rata-rata nilai lebih tinggi sebesar 31,14 dibandingkan Indonesia, 30,81. Keunikan Thailand terletak pada pengenalan tokoh “Father of Thai Science” dan program "Little Scientist House", sementara Indonesia secara kearifan lokal belum ada. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa literasi sains anak dapat berkembang di berbagai konteks pendidikan jika didukung oleh lingkungan pembelajaran eksploratif dan pengalaman langsung yang sejalan dengan teori konstruktivisme.

Abstract

Climate change is a global issue that is imperative to introduce to children from an early age so that they develop adequate science literacy to understand and respond to its impact. This study aimed to develop eclice media as an e-book on climate change to enhance the science literacy of children aged five to six. The research method employed the pre-experimental design one group pretest and post-test, with the subject being 20 children aged 5-6 years at Sadao Kindergarten Thailand. The instruments utilized included questionnaires, observations, and science literacy tests. The effectiveness of the media was determined by analysing the data using the Wilcoxon test. The findings indicated that the use of eclice media was both practical (100% feasibility) and led to a substantial enhancement in children’s science literacy (p < 0.05). The research findings suggest that eclice can serve as an alternative to innovative learning media, aiming to foster science literacy from an early age and enhance the role of teachers and parents in environmental education.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop an AR book, PETANI (Introduction to Indonesian Food Plants), that can help teachers introduce local Indonesian food plants to prevent stunting. This research is a development project utilizing the ADDIE model, which comprises the Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The subjects in this study included learning media experts, learning material experts, and 29 teachers from Banyuwangi Regency. The data collection technique used was a questionnaire administered during validation and user trials. The result of this research is that AR Book PETANI has been developed to the needs of children’s knowledge about local food plants. Additionally, AR Book PETANI is reported to be highly feasible, with an average score of 97.05%, making it suitable for implementation in learning about local food crops at PAUD institutions. This research concludes that the AR Book, with a theme of local food, has been developed as a medium to help teachers introduce local food and prevent stunting. The study’s results confirm the importance of utilizing augmented reality technology in learning media to support nutrition education and optimize the potential of local food as a strategy for preventing stunting from an early age.

Abstract

Early childhood education in Indonesia continues to encounter significant challenges in fostering critical thinking skills, particularly in under-resourced environments with limited access to adaptive learning technologies. This study investigates the effectiveness of a digital learning model that integrates Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance critical thinking among young children. The model, called SMARP (Storytelling, Modifying, Accessible, Real-time, and Promoting), was developed using a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the 4D model: Define, Design, Develop, and Deploy. The study involved 32 kindergarten students from TK Nada Ashobah in Surabaya, divided into two groups: Class B2 (experimental) and Class B1 (control). The experimental group used an AR–AI-based application, while the control group followed conventional instruction. Data collection included classroom observations, teacher interviews, and critical thinking pre- and post-tests. Statistical analysis using paired sample t-tests and normalized gain (N-gain) scores showed a significant improvement in the experimental group (N-gain = 0.845, categorized as high), while the control group recorded minimal gains (N-gain = 0.0015). The AR–AI model enabled immersive learning through 3D simulations, narrative interaction, and real-time feedback, which promoted observation, analysis, and decision-making. Furthermore, AI features supported personalized learning pathways, increasing student autonomy and engagement. These findings affirm the potential of AR and AI to improve foundational cognitive abilities in early childhood education. The study highlights the need for context-responsive digital pedagogy and recommends comprehensive teacher training and infrastructure support to ensure sustainability. Future research should explore the model’s scalability, long-term impact, and adaptability across diverse educational settings.

Abstract

Secara umum keterampilan motorik anak terbagi menjadi dua, yaitu motorik halus dan motorik kasar. Hal yang mendasari pelaksanaan penelitian ini yaitu pentingnya kemampuan motorik kasar untuk anak dikarenakan anak yang memiliki keterampilan motorik kasar yang baik cenderung memiliki tingkat intelektual yang tinggi. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengembangkan produk video Can You Do Like This atau COOLT yang digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan motorik kasar anak usia 3-4 tahun. Penelitian menggunakan jenis R&D (Research and Development) dengan model pengembangan ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan yaitu tipe one group pretest-posttest dengan sampel sejumlah 13 anak yang berusia 3-4 tahun di Tessaban 2 School Bansadao, Thailand. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik observasi, pengisian angket, dan wawancara. Proses analisis data menggunakan statistic non parametric dengan uji Wilcoxon’s Signed Rank test. Skor yang diperoleh sebesar 0,001 yang mana kurang dari 0,05. Dengan demikian, dapat dikatakan bahwa terdapat pengaruh media ‘COOLT’ terhadap kemampuan motorik kasar anak usia 3-4 tahun di lembaga Anuban Tessaban 2 School Bansadao, Thailand.

Abstract

Masalah rendahnya kemampuan literasi awal pada anak usia dini di TK Pengawas II Wonorejo Surabaya menjadi latar belakang penelitian ini. Kurangnya media pembelajaran yang menarik dan sesuai dengan karakteristik anak menjadi penyebab utamanya. Sebagai solusinya, dikembangkan media Getting to Know the Alphabet (GBET). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kevalidan, kepraktisan dan keefektifan media GBET dalam meningkatkan literasi awal pada anak usia 4 – 5 tahun. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Research dan Development (R&D) dengan model ADDIE. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa angket validasi ahli, kepraktisan dan lembar observasi pretest posstest. Subjek penelitian adalah 16 anak usia 4 – 5 tahun di TK Pengawas II Wonorejo Surabaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media Getting to Know the Alphabet (GBET) valid (kelayakan materi 75%, kelayakan media 87,5%), sangat praktis (93,5%), dan efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan literasi dengan N-Gain tinggi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa media Getting to Know the Alphabet (GBET) layak digunakan sebagai sarana pembelajaran literasi awal pada anak usia dini.
