Abstract

Coastal ecosystems are one of the most important and productive ecosystems on our planet. However, coastal ecosystems are also highly vulnerable to environmental changes caused by human activities and natural processes. One of the greatest threats to coastal ecosystems is the impact of large currents and sedimentation. This study aims to assess the impacts of large currents and sedimentation on coastal ecosystems. The study uses both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including field data collection, laboratory analysis, and simulation modeling. The results of the study show that large currents and sedimentation have significant impacts on coastal ecosystems. Large currents can cause coastal erosion, sedimentation, and changes in ecosystem structure. Sedimentation can also lead to decreased water quality, changes in species composition, and disruption of ecological processes. The study also finds that the impacts of large currents and sedimentation on coastal ecosystems can be exacerbated by other factors, such as climate change, human activities, and geological conditions. Therefore, the study recommends that coastal ecosystem management should take into account the impacts of large currents and sedimentation, as well as other factors that can affect coastal ecosystems. The results of this study can be used as a reference for developing sustainable and effective coastal ecosystem management strategies. In addition, the study can also help raise awareness about the importance of coastal ecosystem management and the impacts of large currents and sedimentation on coastal ecosystems

Abstract

Occupational health and safety (OHS) issues in the oil and gas industry are critical factors that influence worker safety and the operational continuity of companies. The oil and gas industry is known for its high-risk environment, which involves hazardous chemicals, high pressures, extreme temperatures, and the potential for accidents that can harm the environment. One of the high-risk activities in this industry is the catalyst replacement process in the butane treater, which is crucial for removing impurities from butane during gas processing. This process carries significant hazards, such as exposure to hazardous chemicals, fire, and explosion. This study aims to identify and analyze the OHS risks associated with the catalyst replacement process in the butane treater and to develop mitigation recommendations that can be implemented to minimize hazards and improve worker safety. The method used in this study is the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Determining Control (HIRADC) method, a systematic approach for identifying hazards, assessing risks, and determining appropriate control measures. This method allows for comprehensive hazard identification and risk mapping based on the probability and impact levels, enabling the proposal of effective mitigation actions. The study analyzes potential hazards that may arise during the catalyst replacement process and the mitigation procedures to reduce these risks. The results of the study show that the catalyst replacement process in the butane treater involves several key risks, such as exposure to hazardous gases, fire, explosion, and risks associated with improper work procedures. Proposed mitigations include enhancing standard operating procedures, safety training, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the implementation of technical controls such as ventilation systems and equipment safety measures. By applying these recommendations, it is expected that the risk of accidents can be minimized, and worker safety can be better maintained.Top of Form

Abstract

The construction industry in Indonesia is experiencing rapid growth, yet the improvement in construction project management to minimize construction accidents is not commensurate with the expansion. According to data from the Social Security Administration for Manpower in Sumatra and Riau, there were 31,801 workplace accidents in 2021, with 216 cases involving construction workers, predominantly occurring at job sites. This is largely attributed to the frequent neglect of implementing the Construction Safety Management System (SMKK) on construction projects, which inherently pose high risks and accident rates. This research aims to identify the inhibiting factors in the implementation of SMKK during the construction phase, based on The Ministry of Public Works and Housing Regulation No. 10 of 2021. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, involving interviews with 11 key informants including Commitment Making Official of planner, Commitment Making Official of execution, Commitment Making Official of supervisor, Consultant of Planner, Contractor of construction, Consultant of Inspection and tender committee. The study identified four main barriers: inadequate awareness among workers regarding safety priorities, infrequent presence of HSE personnel from consulting supervisors until project completion, lax oversight by Top Management, and ineffective outcomes following internal audits, failing to achieve expected improvements. Keywords: Inhibiting Factor, Construction Accident, Construction Project, Inhibiting Factor, The Ministry of Public Works and Housing Regulation No. 10 Year 2021, SMKK
