Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between job characteristics toward work engagement through the mediating psychological meaningfulness. Subjects in this study were a primary school teacher in Yogyakarta who totaled 132 (N=132) of teachers. Our data was collected using the work engagement scale (vigor, dedication, and absorption), job characteristics scale (skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy, and feedback), and psychological meaningfulness scale (meaningful work, others around the work environment, the work context, and spiritual life) — the methods of data analysis used path analysis techniques developed from regression analysis. Results of path analysis indicated that indirect effect was significant (p2 0.332 x 0.332 = 0.110) and the direct effect of 0511. Therefore, the total effect of the work engagement is direct and indirect effect that is 0.511 + 0.110 = 0.621 (62.1%). This means that hypotheses were accepted, there is a correlation between job characteristics toward work engagement through psychological meaningfulness as a mediator, where the suitability of job characteristics will improve work engagement through psychological meaningfulness as a mediator, where the suitability of job characteristics will improve work engagement through psychological meaningfulness that also higher on the teacher.

Abstract

Educational leadership research has been more oriented toward western theories and contexts, ignoring the contextual conditions that shape leadership styles and characteristics. Whereas some ideas analyze that leadership is inseparable from context and is more appropriate according to the setting of a particular society. This study aims to avoid bias when interpreting leadership patterns by finding a concept of Islamic leadership in the field of Education. This research was conducted using qualitative research methods with a case study approach. The participants of the study were two principals and five academic staff in two well-known excellent Islamic senior high schools which become school models pointed out by MORA Indonesia. The data validity checking technique was done by credibility test including method triangulation namely using direct interviews, observations, online surveys, and data sources triangulation using participative observations, school archives, field notes, photos, and video documentation while the researchers were at the location. Triangulation is used to check data from various sources in various ways. Study results showed that the principal's leadership pattern implemented Islamic religious values and the context of the society. Indonesia is predominantly Muslim, where Islamic-based education has been facilitated by the state and included in the policy system, so the findings can be considered when carrying out educational management based on Islamic values.

Participants of this study were 15 employees aged 21-28 years divided into two groups: eight participants in the experimental group and seven participants in the control group. The design was a randomized two-group pretest-posttest. Collecting data used to happiness at work scale with Likert model prepared by the researcher. Data analysis methods used by using Mann Whitney U technique for differences of the gain score in the experimental group and control group data score. The result of gain score analysis showed t value = 8.500 and p-value of 0.021 (p<0.05), indicating there is a significant difference between the experimental group and control group after gratitude exercise. The result shows that gratitude exercise using three good things techniques is effective to increase happiness at work of employees. Key notes: gratitude exercise, happiness at work, three good things

Abstract

This research answers academic anxiety that departs from a study of the complexity of the problems faced by doctoral students in Indonesia. The existing phenomenon is that doctoral students in Indonesia who are scattered in various public and private universities with various fields of knowledge still face many technical and non-technical problems caused by problems that are both academic and non-academic in nature. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with the phenomenological study method developed by Edmund Husserl. Data collection techniques use literature and field studies through interviews, documentation and observation. The primary data source is postgraduate students, and the secondary data source is the Postgraduate Director, Head of Study Program and administrative staff. Data analysis in this qualitative research consists of three streams of activities that occur simultaneously, namely data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions or verification. Data checking in this research is based on four criteria, namely, degree of trustworthiness, transferability, dependability, and certainty. The findings from this study include the theoretical level regarding the conceptualization of the Portrait of Doctoral Programs in Indonesia as an Educational Phenomenon and dissertation as Research Identity of Doctoral Programs (Standards and Characteristics). This research also found academic and non-academic problems for doctoral students in Indonesia. The implications of the results of this research are to provide recommendations for ideas for the academic community for making decisions and academic policies as well as formulating a quality education system and improving the quality assurance of postgraduate doctoral education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper presents about the values of Al-Qur’an, Pancasila, and Mathematics in the discourse on the theory of interconnection integration undergoing a demystification process. The configuration of the values of Al-Qur’an, Pancasila, and Mathematics through Islamic studies is carried out with a theo-anthropocentric process on the integralist values of Al-Qur’an to Mathematics, giving birth to six models, namely Mathematics for Al-Qur’an, Mathematics from Al-Qur’an, Mathematics to explore Al-Qur’an, Mathematics to deliver Al-Qur’an, Mathematics to explain Al-Qur’an, and Mathematics with Al-Qur’an. In integration, there is an effort to restructure Qur’anic and Mathematical sciences, while in interconnection there are meetings in the format of complementation, comparison, confirmation, and the contribution of the verses of Al-Qur’an to the five precepts of Pancasila.

Abstract

A translation is a cognitive activity, while humans, as cognitive subjects, have different ways of thinking. This condition has implications for the difference in translation results; infrequently, the translation results need to be clarified for the reader. Therefore, investigating the problems of learning Arabic must be done to minimize a generation of incompetent Arabic translators. This study aims to investigate the psychological dynamics in a person that cause differences in the way of thinking in Arabic translation. This research is qualitative research using a multi-case approach. The research subjects comprised 10 Nurul Ummah students as a single-case analysis and 4 LSQ Ar-Rohmah students as a cross-case analysis. The data collection technique used interviews and documentation to assess translated results by expert Arab-Indo translators. Data processing to data visualization implemented NVivo 12 Plus analyzing the suitability of patterns between single and cross-case cases by synchronizing interview transcription results and translated values. Data analysis found several problems that caused differences in participants’ thinking in Arabic translation: First, the difference in the weak structural representation of nahwu-shorof due to the difference in the age of knowledge acquisition, the number of activities participated in by participants, and the selection of the priority scale of selected activities; second, differences in inferential planning accuracy due to differences in participant habituation in Arabic translation.

Abstract

Encouraging autonomy among students in the academic setting is a strategy to promote continued education. One way to foster academic autonomy is through supportive relationships between the school environment and parents. This study assesses how autonomy, control, academic socialization, and parental response to academic grades predict students' autonomous academic motivation in Sleman Regency. This quantitative research employs cluster random sampling, using the SPSS 23.00 application to select five madrasah samples from 10 State Tsanawiyah madrasahs in Sleman Regency. A Likert-scale questionnaire was administered to 569 students to collect data. Data analysis involved conducting multiple regression analyses after performing classic assumption tests, including normality tests, linearity tests, multicollinearity tests, heteroscedasticity tests, and testing hypotheses. The analysis results revealed that three out of the six relationships tested are significant, while the other three variables are not. Specifically, parental autonomy support, behavioral control, and response without punishment significantly correlated with students' autonomous academic motivation. On the other hand, psychological control's relationship with academic autonomous motivation, the relationship between students' academic socialization and academic autonomous motivation, and the relationship between punitive responses and academic autonomous motivation were found to be insignificant. The findings recommend that parents adopt parenting styles that address children's psychological needs,  connected to their motivation for academic autonomy.
