Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the correlation between the theoretical model of the organization’s capability contribution, participation, and the climate of change to the commit-ment to change. Subjects were Islamic University lecturers in Indonesia who experienced the organizational change. Findings reveal (a) the theoretical model designed in this study fitted the empirical data; (b) the determination coefficient (R2) of the commitment to change was 15.1%, which showed that 15.1% of the commitment to change can be explained or predicted through the organization’s capability, participation, the climate of change and the open-mindedness to changes variables; (c) the model was acceptable based on the fit model test with 60.785 chi-square value and .275 (> .05) probability, the CFI value was .997 (almost 1), and the RMSEA value was .022 (< .08). This study has found out the determining theoretical model of the commitment to change based on the organization’s capability, participation, the climate of change, and the open-mindedness to changes’ roles in establishing the commitment to change. The open-mindedness to changes as a mediator is significant, because without the mediator, the organization’s capability, participation, and the climate of change have no effects to the commitment to change.

Abstract

Millennial generation employees were expected to have the ability to create and innovate. This ability will lead to creative behaviour particularly when companies support employee welfare which was strengthened by organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB). The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between organizational citizenship behaviour as a mediator of perceived organizational support (POS) for creative behaviour. The number of research participants was 157 millennial generation employees from Indonesian start-up companies. Data were collected using the creative behaviour scale (α = 0.887), the POS scale (α = 0.945), and the OCB scale (α = 0.951). The results of the study based on the path analysis method showed that the indirect effect had a coefficient of 0.339 (p <0.05), which means that there was a positive relationship between POS and creative behaviour through OCB. The positive sign on the correlation coefficient showed the direction of a positive relationship, which means that the higher the POS employees have, the higher the employee's creative behaviour through OCB. OCB as a mediator contributed 46.4% to POS towards creative behaviour. Keywords: millennial generation, organizational citizenship behaviour,                               perceived organizational support, creative behaviour

Abstract

In the present era of globalisation, higher-education institutions are required to focus on innovation to deal with the various challenges. Considering what Islamic higher-education institutions in Indonesia, have achieved in recent times, they face an uphill struggle to compete at the global level. This study aimed at identifying and analysing the dynamics of resilience for globalisation in a state Islamic–University in Indonesia. The results of studies on the management of Islamic tertiary institutions, specifically on organizational resilience, are very difficult to find. This study used the qualitative analysis method of a case-study and comprised in-depth interviews with key people concerned with the management of the university, observation, and secondary data namely academic documents, photos, and information from the university’s official website. The findings showed the university’s continuous efforts to improve not only the academic community’s management skills, knowledge, and expertise but also the implementation of international-curriculum standardization and cooperation with overseas universities. These actions cannot be separated from obstacles faced by university from within and without particularly in terms of funding-related policies. The university’s program-based innovations which are yet to be carried out by other Islamic-universities in Indonesia indicate this institution’s initiative to break the obstacles.
