Abstract

Introduction: Menopause can reduce women's quality of life and cause health issues. The decline in estrogen during menopause is thought to trigger oxidative stress. When the creation of antioxidants does not match the synthesis of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as an antidote, oxidative stress ensues, characterized by malondialdehyde. The aim of the research is to evaluate the effect of the dose of isoflavone genistein daidzein powder in Kudzu root (Pueraria lobata) extract on the decrease in plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) plasma levels in hypoestrogenic rats. Methods: 30 rats Wistar rats were separated into five groups, namely: the control group, the ovariectomy (OVX) group, waited two weeks to produce hypoestrogenic rats. Of the four groups, the positive group was not given a Pueraria lobata powder containing the isoflavones genistein and daidzein (IGD), and the other group was given 15 mg, 30 mg, 60 mg per kg body weight per day, respectively. Twenty-one days later, the mice were killed, and plasma was taken to be checked for MDA levels using spectrophotometry. Results: Genistein Daidzein in kudzu root extract was effective in reducing the oxidative stress. All IGD doses significantly reduced plasma MDA levels. At a dose of 60mg/kg BW, the plasma MDA levels were comparable to those in the control group, it could prevent a significant increase in plasma MDA levels in hypoestrogenic rats. Conclusion: Isoflavone Genistein and Daidzein of kudzu root (Pueraria lobata) extract reduced MDA plasma levels in hypoestrogenic rats.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting has been a global burden worldwide, resulting in severe outcomes, including inadequate brain development until mortality. Early breastfeeding initiation as a global strategy affects the success of continuous breastfeeding that influences the children’s growth and development. This study aimed to provide a literature review on how early breastfeeding initiation might help children avoid stunting. Methods: We searched articles published from 2017 to 2022 in PubMed, Science Direct, Cochrane, and the Indonesia Database with keywords “Early breastfeeding initiation” OR “Early breastfeeding” OR” Early Initiation Breastfeeding” AND “stunting.” All data were gathered and analyzed. Results: A total of 12 articles from 6690 articles met the inclusion, exclusion, and eligibility criteria. The mean of early breastfeeding initiation was 61,82%, with the lowest study in Chimborazo and Tungurahua, Ecuador, and stunting was 33,07% as the highest prevalence was in Chimborazo and Tungurahua, Ecuador, while the lowest in Saharawi refugee camps, Algeria. The mean prevalence of children who did not get early breastfeeding initiation and stunting occurred at 40,85%, and eight studies reported that early breastfeeding initiation was associated with stunting. Conclusion: Early breastfeeding initiation can lower stunting risk in children. Early breastfeeding initiation ensures children obtain enough colostrum that enhances the children’s immunity and probability of exclusive breastfeeding, ensuring children obtain adequate nutritional intake and prevent stunting.

Abstract

Perimenopausal or early postmenopausal women can be prescribed Hormone Replacement Therapy to help them manage moderate to severe menopausal symptoms. One of the primary concerns is that Hormone Replacement Therapy may escalate breast cancer risk. Natural polyphenols' anticancer properties are now a popular issue in many research labs over the last two decades. Polyphenols may be useful in the development of anticancer drugs. Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) contains a high concentration of flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and antioxidants. Phytoestrogens can bind to mammalian ER and act as inadequate aromatase inhibitors, that might lower the breast cancer risk through limiting circulating estrogen levels.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there will be an increase in the number of elderly people throughout the world. Malang Regency is one of the areas with the largest number of elderly people in East Java. This program's community service activities collaborate with partners at the Resilient Elderly School Kromoleo 1 in Senggreng Village, Sumberpucung District, Malang Regency. These older adults have several health complaints, such as diabetes, cholesterol, and gout, and the organ they complain about most is the knee area, so activities become hampered. The community service activity "GANTARI" (Gerakan Lansia Tangguh, Bugar dan Aktif) is here to increase awareness of the elderly about the importance of sports and physical activity to avoid degenerative diseases, especially diabetes mellitus. This community service activity has three stages, namely preparation, implementation and evaluation. An overview of the physical activity of the elderly was obtained through filling out the pre-test and post-test with the IPAQ questionnaire which was successfully completed by 52 senior citizens of Senggreng Village. Based on these results, there was a change in behavior and increased knowledge in the elderly of Senggreng Village after participating in the "GANTARI" activity. Therefore, the "GANTARI" community service activity has succeeded in promoting sports and physical activity to prevent the elderly from degenerative diseases, especially diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Indonesia, located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, is vulnerable to natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods. Malang City, as one of the regions with a high risk of disasters, has experienced an increase in earthquake and flood incidents that threaten the safety of its residents and infrastructure. Therefore, disaster preparedness education in elementary schools is crucial to enhancing students' readiness in the face of disasters. This community service activity was conducted on May 17, 2024, at SD Aisyiyah Kamila Malang, involving 43 fourth-grade students. The aim of the activity was to improve students' knowledge and skills regarding disaster preparedness. The methods employed included socialization, demonstrations, and practical simulations. Data and feedback were collected through pre-tests and post-tests to assess the students' understanding. The pre-test was administered before the activity to measure their initial knowledge, while the post-test was given after the activity to evaluate any changes in knowledge. The evaluation results indicated a significant improvement in students' knowledge, from the "sufficient" category to the "good" category, with paired sample T-test results showing statistical significance (p<0.05). Additionally, the students showed high enthusiasm and a strong understanding during the simulation. This program supports the third and fourth SDGs, aiming to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all individuals of all ages.

Abstract

Background: Women can experience complications and mortality in the postpartum period. Women are also burdened with the long-term consequences of complications after delivery. Access to high-quality care during the postpartum period is essential to improving maternal outcomes, but the number of postpartum visits has not met the standard. This study aims to analyze the determinants of postpartum visit attendance in Surakarta.Method: A retrospective case-control study was conducted using secondary data. The database used in this study was derived from maternal and child health books and data from community health centers. All mothers who had completed the postpartum period (≥42 days postpartum) with the inclusion criteria of having a maternal and child health book and living in Surakarta were involved in this study. Data were analyzed descriptively and statistically. The relationship between the two variables was analyzed using the chi-square test. Multivariate analysis was performed using the logistic regression test. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05.Result: A total of 179 postpartum mothers' data were successfully collected. Most of them had incomplete postpartum visit data. (75.4%). The number of children and type of delivery were related to the status of the mother's postpartum visit (p ≤ 0.05). Other variables, namely age, occupation, insurance ownership, complications during pregnancy, childbirth or postpartum, education, and place of delivery, were unrelated to the completeness of postpartum visits (p> 0.05). The results of multivariate analysis showed that the type of delivery simultaneously affected the mother's postpartum visit. Mothers who experienced a CS delivery compared to normal delivery had a 0.170 times greater chance of having a complete postpartum visit.
