Abstract

A total number of people living with HIV reached since it was first reported. Indonesia is on the brink of rapidly worsening AIDS epidemic. Oral health was a frequent problem among HIV-infected person. Opportunistic oral lesions and infections were often one of the first manifestations of HIV. The aim of this literature review was to discuss complication risks and management undergoing invasive dental procedures. Thereby, dentists have been expected to increase awareness of dental treatment needs for HIV-infected patients by pay attention to applied standard procedure. The complications of HIV-infected patients were reported minor, self-limiting, non-life threatening and readily treated. Treatment planning for the patient with HIV follows the same sequences as with other patients priorities are to assuage pain, restore function, prevent further disease and consider esthetic results. We concluded that no different complication risks between HIV-infected and non-infected. Dentists can provide care for HIV-infected patients with assessing the current immunosuppression stage, intake systemic medications, opportunistic infection potential and minimize contagion possibility to dental care professional or other patients.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to obtain the optimum propolis extraction method using microwave extraction so as to produce anti-SARS CoV-2 compounds. The research method used was experimental with a completely randomized factorial design consisting of 2 factors namely extraction time and power level, 9 treatments and 3 replications. The extraction using microwave assisted extraction was carried out according to treatment factors, namely low power level (A1), medium (A2), high (A3) and the length of treatment time was 10 minutes (B1), 20 minutes (B2), and 30 minutes (B3). The results of statistical analysis showed that the interaction between the two had a high significant effect (p<0.01) on the alkaloid content which is ranged from 0.665 to 1.452 mg/g and had no effect on color L*a*b* and antioxidant activity which is ranged from 1.533 to 1.553. The percentage of hexadecane in East Java propolis extract was 0.280 %, octadecane was 0.775%, and pentacosane was 6.716%. The results of druglikeness analysis showed that hexadecane, octadecane and pentacosane compounds had potential as antivirals with a probability to be active value of 0.68. The binding affinity value produced by enzalutamide as a native ligand is -6.7 kcal/mol while the highest inhibitory value is octadecane and pentacosane of -5.9 kcal/mol and followed by hexadecane at -5.8 kcal/mol. The conclusion of this research is that the most optimal extraction method using microwave assisted extraction is done with a medium microwave power level for 30 minutes in terms of the alkaloid content and antioxidant activity produced. This method is able to produce extracts with good antiviral bioactive components, although the binding affinity has not been able to exceed the native ligand's ability in terms of the molecular docking approach.

Abstract

Propolis Trigona itama  has a blackish brown color and has a bitter taste. Propolis contains immunomodulator, antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. Efforts made to determine the potential of propolis require an extraction process. The extraction process aims to obtain propolis ready for consumption. Propolis has thermostable properties with a melting point of 60oC – 65oC, so it does not require high temperatures in the extraction process. The extraction process using MAE requires a faster time because the pressure and temperature can be controlled. This study used a factorial completely randomized design with 2 factors with 9 treatments and 3 replications. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variant (ANOVA). If there is a difference, it is continued with the DUNCAN multiple distance test. The results of the extraction using the MAE method of propolis have antioxidant activity using the DPPH method of 1,460µg/ml to 1,413 µg/ml which is expressed in IC50. Trigona itama  propolis extract had an average antioxidant value of 0.22 µg/ml to 0.57 µg/ml using the FRAP method. There is a unique component in the GCMS results of Trigona itama propolis extract called bisalcofen.Bisalcofen is an active component which has antioxidant properties. The results of the bisalcofen docking score of -7.6 on the ACE2 protein. Bisalcofen has a stronger potency than umifenovir which can be used as an inhibitor of SARS-CoV2 infection.

Abstract

Chrysin, a predominant compound in Propolis, possesses diverse bioactivities, including antiviral properties. However, its antiviral efficacy against the Indonesian Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV) serotype remains unexplored. This study investigates Chrysin's inhibitory potential against FMDV Indonesian serotype by targeting the 3C Protease (3CP), a vital enzyme for viral replication. Multiple sequence alignment was used to reveal unique characteristics of the Indonesian serotype's 3CP compared to global serotypes. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations assessed Chrysin's interaction with 3CP based on electronegativity. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics analyses evaluated Chrysin's inhibitory activity against 3CP, using homology modeling for the Indonesian serotype's 3CP structure. Luteolin, a known FMDV 3CP inhibitor with a similar structure to Chrysin, served as a reference. Results showed distinct 3CP sequences in the Indonesian serotype compared to O serotypes and others. Chrysin exhibited potential electron-donor activity with lower HOMO and LUMO values than Luteolin, but they had similar energy gaps, i.e., 4.016 and 4.044 eV, respectively. Molecular docking indicated similar binding affinities, with Chrysin (-6.365 kcal/mol) and Luteolin (-6.864 kcal/mol) bound to active site residues. Molecular dynamics analysis demonstrated stable 3CP-Chrysin and 3CP-Luteolin complexes, with minor differences in Radius of gyration (Rg) and Root-Mean-Square Fluctuation (RMSF) below 1 Å. From the ligand stability point of view, Chrysin had comparable stability with Luteolin. However, Chrysin formed fewer hydrogen bonds and displayed greater free-binding energy than Luteolin during simulation periods. These findings suggest that Chrysin holds promise as an inhibitor of the Indonesian serotype's FMDV 3C Protease.

Abstract

Transfersome has been commonly used to increase the penetration of drugs derived from natural ingredients. Propolis is a natural ingredient with many benefits, such as antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antioxidant, and anticancer. In various in vitro studies, propolis showed proapoptotic activity in cancer cells. Gelatin is a chemical compound that can be used as an emulsifier because it has a hydrophobic part in the peptide chain. This study aimed to determine the optimal gelatin content based on physical tests as an emulsifier in the manufacture of emulsions for transfersome cream ingredients. The research method used was an experimental laboratory with 6 gelatin concentration treatments, namely 1% (P1), 2% (P2), 3% (P3), 4% (P4), 5% (P5), and 6% (P6) with 3 replicates. To make the emulsion, 5% propolis extract was added. The results of statistical analysis showed that the manufacture of emulsions using different concentrations of gelatin had a very significant effect (p

Abstract

In Indonesia, apples are one of the types of fruit that are widely cultivated and widely consumed as processed foods, such as apple cider vinegar CV Sinar Tirta Indonesia, a producer of apple cider vinegar, consistently yields apple pulp as a by-product. In addition to apple cider vinegar, the processing process produces apple pulp by-products. Apple pulp by-products, which consist of pulp and skin that has extraordinary nutrition, make it very suitable to be processed into useful food. Innovation is needed so that apple pulp by-products are not only used for animal feed mixtures that have low selling value. To realize the processing of waste-based products, it must be able to change the by-product into a product that has the maximum possible economic value, as shown in this community service activity, namely changing the by-product of apple vinegar into flour and ingredients for making cookies that were attended by the surrounding community, students, employees, and business actors. This training provides direct benefits to participants, namely gaining new knowledge about how to process apple pulp into functional food ingredients. This training proves that processing apple pulp with current technology is easy to do and produces a high-value product.
