Abstract

This study aims to describe the constructivist Biology learning experience of high school students in South Sulawesi. The research subjects consisted of 525 students from 7 districts/cities in South Sulawesi. The method used in this study was a descriptive survey using a closed questionnaire instrument and a Likert scale. The data collection technique used a Google Forms platform that contained a questionnaire. The data obtained were processed using descriptive and inferential analyses. The results showed that the constructivist biology learning experience of students in South Sulawesi included learning personality indicators of 64.20%, reflection thinking of 68.89%, problem solving and investigation relevance to daily life of 69.55%, collaborative learning of 71.00%, discussion of 72.75%, teaching scaffolding of 68.29%. Then a very low correlation coefficient value is shown in the learning personality indicator with problem solving investigation of 0.15. The strong correlation coefficient value on the collaborative learning indicator with discussion is 0.60. The findings of this study indicate that the overall constructivist learning experience of students in South Sulawesi is still moderately low and the correlation coefficient between the dominant indicators is still weak. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve the constructivist Biology learning experience to optimize learning effectiveness.

Abstract

Abstract

21st-century learning requires higher education institutions to integrate technology into the teaching process, one of which is through blended learning based on a Learning Management System (LMS). This study aims to analyse the needs for the implementation of LMS-based blended learning among prospective teacher students in the Primary School Teacher Education Programme (PGSD) at Lamappapoleonro University. The research was conducted in March 2026 using a descriptive quantitative method with purposive sampling of 53 sixth-semester students. The instrument consisted of a closed-ended questionnaire using a Likert scale with 25 items covering seven aspects: technological readiness, digital literacy, LMS experience, LMS feature requirements, learning model preferences, digital learning barriers, and expectations regarding blended learning. The results indicate that technological readiness and digital literacy fall into the good category, whilst LMS usage experience and the ability to overcome digital barriers remain in the fairly good category. LMS feature requirements and blended learning model preferences range from fairly good to good, whereas students expectations regarding blended learning reach the very good category. The gap between device readiness and digital operational competence indicates the need for a structured LMS orientation programme prior to full implementation.

Abstract

Student learning outcomes are still a challenge in higher education, especially in a learning system that is still teacher-centered and lack interactivity. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the quality of learning through more responsive and flexible approaches, such as blended learning. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing blended learning on the learning outcomes of biology students in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Makassar (UNM). This study employed a quasi-experimental design with random sampling. The study population consisted of all Biology Department students at FMIPA UNM enrolled in the Cell and Molecular Biology course. The sample comprised 75 students divided into three classes: two experimental classes and one control class. The assessment instrument used was a learning outcome test in the form of multiple-choice questions. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and inferentially using a one-way ANOVA test. The results showed that Experimental Class 1, which implemented blended learning, achieved a higher average learning outcome score compared to Experimental Class 2 and the control class. The ANOVA test indicated a significant difference between the groups (p < 0.05). Thus, blended learning has a significant effect on student learning outcomes.
