Abstract

This study examines the role of civic education as a strategic instrument in efforts to preserve and empower the Iko-Iko cultural heritage in the Sapeken Islands. Through a qualitative approach using a case study method, the study revealed that integrating local cultural values into the civic education curriculum can create synergy between strengthening national identity and preserving local wisdom. The research findings show that Iko-Iko culture-based learning not only increases students' awareness and pride in their cultural heritage but also strengthens the cultural resilience of the Sapeken community in the face of globalisation. The integrated learning model developed has succeeded in transforming civic education practices from a conventional approach to empowering contextual learning. The implementation of this model encourages the active participation of the younger generation in efforts to conserve and develop the Iko-Iko tradition as a national cultural asset. The study concludes that revitalising civic education based on local wisdom is an effective strategy in maintaining the sustainability of cultural heritage while building the character of citizens with cultural identity

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of Citizenship Education in the school curriculum as a prevention strategy of intolerance of students in the post-truth era, with a case study in the Santa Maria II Catholic Middle School, Malang. The post-truth Era, which is full of hoaxes and disinformation through digital media, has the potential to form intolerant attitudes, so Citizenship Education has an important role in equipping students with the value of tolerance and critical thinking skills. This study uses a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and participatory observation to explore the implementation of the curriculum and the role of teachers. The results showed that the integration of civic values in formal curricula and non-formal activities, such as extracurriculars and character strengthening programs, effectively shaped students ' tolerant attitudes. The implementation of independent curriculum and digital literacy also strengthens students ' resilience to disinformation. Teachers play a central role as facilitators in developing critical thinking skills. The study recommends a holistic approach involving cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects, as well as collaboration between schools, parents, and the community. In conclusion, contextual and interdisciplinary integration of civic education in the school curriculum proved effective in preventing intolerance among learners.

Abstract

Abstract: The aim is to develop broad insights and understanding, to form tolerant behavior that is shown through concrete actions that support the creation of a safe, peaceful, harmonious life in an integrative society based on multiculturalism values. This tolerant life empowerment activity is a real effort to overcome various forms of conflict due to intolerance in society. The method used in this community service activity is the socialization of empowerment (lectures) and simulations (dialogue/fraternal sharing and real action) guided by the speakers. The subjects in this empowerment activity are the people who join the Inter-religious Dialogue Service Community, especially the Inter-religious Dialogue Service Community of St. Ignasius Loyola in the Kepanjen Parish area, Malang, with a total of 80 participantsAs a result of this empowerment of religious tolerance, the community has broad knowledge and understanding regarding the importance of a safe and harmonious life, and is able to build an open and adaptive culture of religious tolerance. Abstrak: Tujuannya untuk mengembangkan wawasan pengetahuan dan pemahaman yang luas, membentuk perilaku yang toleran yang ditunjukkan melalui aksi nyata yang mendukung terciptanya kehidupan yang aman, damai, harmonis dalam masyarakat yang integratif berbasis nilai-nilai multikulturalisme. Kegiatan pemberdayaan kehidupan yang toleran ini merupakan upaya nyata untuk mengatasi berbagai bentuk konflik akibat sikap intoleransi di masyarakat. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah sosialisasi pemberdayaan (ceramah) dan simulasi (dialog/shering persaudaraan dan aksi nyata) yang dipandu oleh pemateri. Subjek dalam kegiatan pemberdayaan ini adalah masyarakat yang bergabung dalam Komunitas Pelayanan Dialog Antar-agama, khususnya Komunitas Pelayanan Dialog Antar-Agama St. Ignasius Loyola dalam wilayah Paroki Kepanjen, Malang, yang berjumlah 80 peserta. Hasil kegiatan pemberdayaan hidup toleransi beragama ini, dimana masyarakat memiliki pengetahuan dan pemahaman yang luas terkait pentingnya kehidupan yang aman dan harmonis, serta mampu membangun budaya toleransi beragama yang terbuka dan adaptif.
