Abstract

Recent studies have yielded ambiguous results about the influence of emotional intelligence and an entrepreneurial mindset on organisational success, especially in vocational higher education institutions where reward systems might affect employee behaviour. This study examines the impact of emotional intelligence and entrepreneurial mindset on organisational success, with rewards serving as a moderating variable in the context of vocational marine higher education. The sample comprised 330 employees from Politeknik Pelayaran Sumatera Barat and Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Semarang. The data analysis utilised PLS-SEM with SmartPLS 3, employing bootstrapping and blindfolding methodologies. The findings demonstrate that an entrepreneurial mentality exerts a favourable and significant effect on organisational performance, whilst emotional intelligence also enhances performance, albeit without statistical significance. Rewards have a strong and direct effect on how well an organization does its job, but they don't change the relationship between emotional intelligence and how well an organization does its job, or between an entrepreneurial attitude and how well an organization does its job. The model explains a large part of the differences in how well organisations do and shows that it can accurately forecast how well they will do. This study adds to the body of research by making the roles of emotional intelligence, an entrepreneurial attitude, and rewards in creating organisational success on vocational marine campuses clearer. It also shows how important institutional reward systems are in this setting.

Abstract

This systematic literature review comprehensively analyzes the relationship between leadership styles and employee performance based on empirical evidence from 2020-2025. The research population comprises employees and leaders across various organizational sectors including education, healthcare, and industry. Using the PRISMA framework with purposive sampling technique, the selection process from an initial pool of 500 studies identified through database searches yielded 14 high-quality empirical studies as the final sample that met the inclusion criteria. The methodology employed systematic literature review with rigorous quality assessment and analysis. Key findings reveal that the relationship between leadership styles and employee performance is predominantly positive and significant, with three distinct patterns emerging. The majority of studies (8 studies) demonstrated dominant positive influence from transformational and servant leadership, while several studies (3 studies) showed positive but non-dominant influence where organizational factors outweighed leadership effects. Notably, no studies found significant negative impacts from constructive leadership styles. Furthermore, the relationship was frequently mediated by variables including ethical organizational culture, knowledge sharing, and job security. In conclusion, this systematic review substantiates that adaptive, empowerment-focused leadership serves as a crucial driver of employee performance, offering substantial practical value for organizations to develop evidence-based, contextual leadership strategies that foster work environments conducive to sustained productivity and organizational excellence in the modern business landscape.

Abstract

This study examines the effects of entrepreneurial learning, teacher support, and self-directed learning on the entrepreneurial intentions of vocational students and explores the mediating role of entrepreneurial learning and independent learning. Quantitative causal design was used by involving 303 Class XI students from nine public vocational schools in Pesisir Selatan Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Entrepreneurship learning had the strongest direct effect on entrepreneurial intention (β = 0.497, p < 0.005), followed by teacher support (β = 0.211, p = 0.006). Entrepreneurial learning significantly mediated the relationship between teacher support and entrepreneurial intent (β = 0.339, p < 0.005). Improving teacher support, entrepreneurship education, and self-paced learning is essential to strengthen the entrepreneurial intentions of vocational students

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of charismatic leadership and a joyful-learning approach on student engagement in a vocational maritime context at Politeknik Pelayaran Sumatera Barat. A census sampling strategy was employed (N = 368; 305 male, 63 female). Data were collected using a 20-item Likert-scale instrument (pilot-tested with n = 60) and analyzed via partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The structural model explained a substantial proportion of variance in student engagement (R² = 0.908). Joyful learning demonstrated a large, positive, and statistically significant effect on engagement (p < 0.001). In contrast, charismatic leadership exhibited a small and non-significant effect (p = 0.127). Gender-based experiences showed a small but statistically significant direct effect on engagement (p < 0.001), yet did not significantly moderate the relationships between the predictors and engagement. These findings underscore the primacy of pedagogical design over instructor leadership style in fostering student engagement in vocational education. Specifically, practice-oriented and affectively engaging instructional strategies appear more influential than charismatic leadership behaviors. Practically, educators should prioritize the integration of joyful, experiential learning approaches. Future research should adopt more balanced samples, employ multi-group or experimental designs, and utilize more granular measures of gender-based experience to better elucidate subgroup differences and underlying causal mechanisms.
