Abstract

Background: Intimate partner violence (IPV) remains a significant public health concern in Timor-Leste, with sociocultural norms, economic disparities, and partner behaviors contributing to its prevalence. Understanding the associated risk factors is crucial for informing prevention strategies. Purpose: This study aimed to examine sociodemographic and behavioral factors associated with severe IPV among women in Timor-Leste Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from 3,694 women aged 15–49 years who participated in the 2016 Timor-Leste Demographic and Health Survey (DHS). The outcome variable was self-reported severe IPV. Independent variables included age, marital status, education, household wealth index, place of residence, geographic region, and husband/partner’s alcohol consumption. Weighted logistic regression models were used to calculate crude and adjusted odds ratios (COR, AOR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: Severe IPV was significantly associated with being aged 25–34 (AOR = 1.74; 95% CI: 1.19–2.52), being unmarried/widowed/divorced (AOR = 2.56; 95% CI: 1.33–4.92), and having a partner who consumed alcohol (AOR = 2.41; 95% CI: 1.85–3.11). Higher education and better economic status were protective against IPV. Conclusions: Alcohol consumption by partners, lower education levels, and economic disadvantage are key risk factors for severe IPV in Timor-Leste. Policies targeting alcohol reduction, women’s empowerment, and tailored regional interventions are essential to mitigate IPV and its health impacts

The social stigma attached to TB patients hampers efforts to control pulmonary TB. Health cadres at the primary care level are vital and often limited in their capacity, especially in dealing with the social stigma experienced by TB patients. Cadres are more often provided with basic medical training in identifying new cases rather than communication skills and advocacy strategies to reduce stigma, which makes patients reluctant to report and delay treatment. The purposeof this sudy is to increase the capacity of health cadres through training and strengthening the SI Peduli TBC peer group as a strategy to reduce stigma in pulmonary TB patients in the work area of the Janti Community Health Center in Malang City. Preparations were carried out in coordination with stakeholders, identification of active cadres and TB support communities, formation of an implementation team and peer group facilitator, namely the Si Peduli TBC Community Team of 19 people. This was followed by collecting data on cases and stigma levels. The implementation of the activity included providing training materials covering an introduction to TB and Stigma, the role of cadres in reducing stigma through effective communication, and practice and action planning for the Si Peduli TBC Community Peer Group. The final stage of knowledge evaluation was through a post-test to measure the increase in cadre knowledge regarding TB and stigma, evaluation of the quality of interaction in peer groups, and joint reflection with cadres regarding the effectiveness of stigma reduction strategies. The results of the community service activity involved three sub-districts within the Janti Community Health Center's work area, namely Bandungrejosari, Sukun, and Tanjungrejo. The preparation stage with coordination took place on August 15, 2025, and August 22, 2025. The training was implemented on August 23-24, 2025, along with the socialization and formation of the Si Peduli TB Community peer group. The activity outputs were educational videos and measurements of the level of knowledge of the concept of Pulmonary TB, TB stigma, and effective communication methods, which increased by 63.2%, 68.4%, and 63.3%, respectively. It can be concluded that the Si Peduli TB Community program has been proven to increase the knowledge of cadres, volunteers, and survivors and strengthen the Si Peduli TB Community peer group as a strategy to reduce stigma in pulmonary TB patients in the Janti Community Health Center's work area, Malang City.  Keywords: Pulmonary Tuberculosis, Stigma, Health Cadres, Peer Group, Community TB Care

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Tuberkulosis Paru, Deteksi Dini, Pelatihan Si Peduli TBC Komunitas, Stigma TBC Paru, Literasi Digital     ABSTRACT Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health problem in Indonesia. TB control efforts remain a serious national concern through the TOSS TB (Temukan, Obati Sampai Sembuh) strategy, which emphasizes early detection, treatment adherence, and community involvement. Various obstacles are still faced, including low public health literacy, stigma against sufferers, and limited health workers in actively finding cases. Janti Community Health Center, as a first-level health facility, plays an important role in actively finding TB cases. However, the achievement of early detection is still hampered by fear, stigma, and a lack of public understanding regarding TB symptoms. The purpose of this community service is to analyze the effect of providing "Si Peduli TB Komunitas" training on the ability to detect pulmonary TB early. The implementation method uses a Peer Education Approach, Blended Education and Cross-Sector Collaboration, tracing assistance and creating educational content & screening campaigns through social media. This activity was carried out on August 15-31, 2025, involving community leaders, families, and local organizations. The number of participants was 19 people from 3 sub-districts in the Janti Health Center working area, namely Bandungrejosari, Sukun, and Tanjungrejo. Through the Wilcoxon test, it was found that the results of the activity were 19 people who experienced an increase in the ability to detect TB early after being given the Community TB Care Training intervention. The asymp.sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.000, where this value is smaller than the alpha value of 5% (0.05), so it can be interpreted that there is a difference between before and after the provision of the Community TB Care Training intervention on Early Detection Ability. Increasing the ability of participants in creating and disseminating educational media through various digital platforms strengthens the role of the community in reducing stigma while encouraging early detection of pulmonary TB in the working area of the Janti Health Center in Malang City. Keywords: Pulmonary Tuberculosis, Early Detection, Community TB Care Training, Pulmonary TB Stigma, Digital Literacy

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacts many aspects of life, including health, economy, society, education, and mental well-being. The pandemic impact on mental health, in particular, leads to increased rates of depression, anxiety, and stress. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of depression among Islamic boarding school students in Indonesia and identify factors associated with depression symptoms. This cross-sectional study employed questionnaires for data collection. Assessment of depression levels used the DASS-21 tool. Descriptive statistics and multivariate logistic regression were applied to analyze relationships between variables. The study findings indicated that 62.4% of the students exhibited factors associated with depression. In general, education level, personality type, communication with peers, satisfaction with the living environment, and health status demonstrated significant associations with depression. In conclusion, recognizing and intervening at early stages are crucial for depression prevention and mitigation. This study serves as a key instrument for the policymakers in the field of education, providing insights to promptly take immediate actions, especially regarding the placement of students in Islamic boarding schools in Muslim-majority countries.
