Abstract

Male students aged 15-16 years at SMAN 01 Hulu Gurung have low physical fitness levels. This is evident from their body mass index status, flexibility, muscle strength, and cardiovascular endurance. This situation can affect the learning process of physical education at school. This study aims to determine the physical fitness of male students at SMAN 01 Hulu Gurung, Kapuas Hulu Regency, within the age range of 15-16 years. The study design used a cross-sectional method, where 91 male students aged 15-16 years were given the TKPN (National Student Fitness Test) method. Data collection involved five test items: (1) body mass index, (2) v sit and reach, (3) sit up, (4) squat thrust, and (5) pacer test. The results showed that 55 students (60.4%) were in the normal category for body mass index, 46 students (51%) were in the low category for the v sit and reach, 40 students (44%) were in the low category for sit up, 33 students (36.2%) were in the low category for squat thrust, and 59 students (64.9%) were in the very low category for the pacer test. Therefore, physical fitness assessments need to be conducted at the beginning of the learning sessions so that the student's physical fitness status can be identified and improved through physical activities at school.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aimed to profile the physical fitness characteristics — muscular strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, agility, speed, and coordination — of beginner volleyball players at Yuso Volleyball Academy, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, and to examine sex-based differences in order to inform evidence-based youth performance development. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was employed. Twenty-five beginner volleyball players (boys, n = 11; girls, n = 14; aged 8–12 years) were assessed using a standardised test battery comprising the 60-second push-up test (strength), the 12-minute Cooper run (cardiorespiratory endurance), the Illinois agility test (agility), the 30-metre sprint (speed), and the volleyball wall-pass test over 30 seconds (sport-specific coordination). Descriptive statistics (mean ± standard deviation) were computed, and independent-samples t-tests with Cohen's d effect sizes were used to examine sex differences (α = 0.05). Results: Forty-seven studies (n = 3,284; 19 countries; 2000–2024) met inclusion criteria; 42 were pooled Boys outperformed girls in strength (41.36 ± 4.82 vs. 32.14 ± 3.97 repetitions; p < 0.001; d = 2.11), endurance (2,520 ± 180 vs. 2,210 ± 165 m; p < 0.001; d = 1.81), and speed (4.32 ± 0.24 vs. 4.68 ± 0.29 s; p = 0.003; d = 1.34). Differences in agility (10.21 ± 0.56 vs. 10.45 ± 0.61 s; p = 0.32) and coordination (28.09 ± 3.11 vs. 26.21 ± 2.88 repetitions; p = 0.13) were not statistically significant. Across the cohort, agility, speed, and coordination were classified as 'good', whereas cardiorespiratory endurance was the lowest-rated component ('fair'). Conclusions: Beginner volleyball players at the academy displayed a fair-to-good overall fitness profile, with cardiorespiratory endurance identified as the most prominent developmental priority for both sexes. Agility, speed, and coordination should be maintained through varied, sport-specific stimuli, while strength training should be progressively individualised, with particular attention to upper-body conditioning in girls. The findings provide a regionally relevant baseline that can be integrated into structured long-term athlete development pathways.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and test the feasibility and effectiveness of a 3D Biomechanical Analysis Application Model for physical condition training in SPOBNAS athletes aged 14–17 years. The research employed the Borg & Gall development model through 10 systematic steps, with data collected using observation, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. Validation was conducted by three experts (material, media, and measurement), while the effectiveness test applied a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design involving 50 athletes divided equally into experimental and control groups. The results showed that the application model had high validity, with an average Aiken’s V of 0.95 (material experts) and 0.93 (media experts). Practicality tests indicated that athletes (mean = 3.90) and coaches (mean = 3.88) assessed the program as very practical. Statistical analysis confirmed that the data were normally distributed (Sig. = 0.200) and homogeneous (Sig. = 0.058). The effectiveness test demonstrated a significant improvement in the experimental group (t count = 5.120 > t table = 2.009, df = 49), with a mean gain of 14.2 points compared to only 4.6 in the control group. Furthermore, effect size analysis (Cohen’s d = 1.25) indicated a large effect. In conclusion, the developed 3D Biomechanical Analysis Application Model was proven to be valid, practical, and effective, contributing positively to improving athletes’ physical fitness, motor skills, and motivation. This application can be a valuable tool for coaches in enhancing performance training and supporting athlete development at SPOBNAS.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to provide education and an introduction to physical fitness for students at State Vocational High School 3 Singkawang, particularly in measuring students physical fitness levels. Based on field data, many Physical Education (PJOK) teachers still have limited understanding of the National Sports Grand Design (DBON). In addition, students have never received assessments of their physical fitness, which results in decreased concentration during PJOK learning activities and rapid fatigue during physical activities. The method applied is service learning, in which students receive education and understanding of the importance of physical fitness through collaboration with PJOK teachers at the school. The stages include: (1) completion of questionnaires/pre-tests, (2) socialization and measurement of students physical fitness, (3) completion of questionnaires/post-tests, and (4) activity documentation. The implementation of this community service program received positive responses, as reported by the PKM team, including: (1) enhanced understanding of measuring physical fitness through the Indonesian Student Fitness Test (TKPN), and (2) best practices in the field for measuring physical fitness using the Indonesian Student Fitness Test (TKPN)

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The creativity of teachers in delivering Physical Education learning materials plays a crucial role in ensuring that students receive engaging and varied instruction, which in turn fosters their learning motivation. The primary objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of using audiovisual media in teaching the shoulder stand movement within floor gymnastics. Furthermore, this study aims to assist students in mastering proper techniques, improving movement accuracy, and enhancing their learning motivation through the implementation of audiovisual-based learning media. Materials and methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental method using a pretest-posttest one-group design. Data analysis was conducted through descriptive statistical techniques, providing an overview of the results based on the mean, standard deviation, as well as the highest and lowest scores. These statistical measures were used to describe the students’ initial and final abilities in performing the shoulder stand movement. Results: During the pretest process, the students’ mean score was 67.19, categorized as fair, while the posttest mean score was 82.67, categorized as good. The population standard deviation in the pretest was 9.71, which is considered relatively high, whereas in the posttest it was 6.33, categorized as relatively low. These results indicate that the use of audiovisual media proved to be effective in helping students achieve a more consistent and comprehensive understanding of the shoulder stand movement. Conclusions: The use of audiovisual media in learning the shoulder stand movement within floor gymnastics has been proven to have a positive effect on students’ learning outcomes. The increase in the mean score reflects an overall improvement in students’ abilities, while the decrease in standard deviation indicates that the students’ learning results became more uniform and consistent. Therefore, audiovisual media is effective as a learning aid to enhance students’ understanding of movement techniques and their skills in performing the shoulder stand in floor gymnastics.

Abstract

Understanding the rules is an important cognitive component of an athlete’s competence; however, empirical data on regional hockey athletes’ understanding of official rules in Indonesia remains limited. This study aims to determine the level of athletes’ understanding of game rules at the West Kalimantan Provincial Indoor Hockey Championship (Kejurprov). This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a survey approach. The population consisted of 144 male athletes from 12 regencies/cities; 36 athletes were selected through probability random sampling. Data were collected using a true-false knowledge test based on the FIH Rules of Indoor Hockey, consisting of 38 valid and reliable items (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.926) out of 42 administered items, and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The athletes’ overall level of understanding fell into the “Very Good” category, with an average score of 91.89%; 86% of the athletes were categorized as Very Good, 11% as Good, and 3% as Fair. Test items related to player equipment, game procedures involving referees, and penalty/sanction procedures showed the highest error rates. Athletes competing in the West Kalimantan Provincial Indoor Hockey Championship demonstrated a very good understanding of the official rules of the game. Coaches, athletes, and federation officials need to continue strengthening rules education—particularly regarding situational and contextual aspects of the rules—through structured training programs based on scenario simulations.
