Abstract

Degenerative diseases are common health problems among the elderly, arising from the natural aging process, unhealthy lifestyle habits, and long-term exposure to various risk factors. Limited knowledge regarding early symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures often leads to poor awareness and delays in early detection among older adults. Therefore, health education and simple health screening are essential to enhance the elderly’s understanding and awareness of degenerative disease prevention. This activity was conducted door to door for 15 elderly residents in Dusun 1, Suka Sari Village. The intervention included health education using leaflets, two-way communication, and simple health checks in the form of blood pressure measurement. Elderly individuals who previously had limited understanding became more aware of their health conditions and the importance of early prevention. Blood pressure measurements also indicated the need for continuous monitoring, particularly related to hypertension risk.

Abstract

The prevalence of developmental disorders in Indonesia is still quite high at 27.5% (WHO, 2023), and about 13% of children aged 0–6 years experience developmental delays (Riskesdas, 2020). In Bengkulu City, especially in the Ratu Agung area, fine motor disorders are the most common cases, including at PAUD Aulia, where cases increased from 3 in 2023 to 5 in 2025.This study aims to provide nursing care and document the results of applying LEGO play therapy to improve fine motor skills in preschool children at PAUD Aulia, Bengkulu City, in 2025. The method used is a descriptive case study on one child (A.A) who had fine motor problems. The child showed difficulties in stacking blocks, drawing, holding a pencil, cutting, and buttoning clothes. The therapy was given for three days at PAUD Aulia. The results showed an improvement in fine motor skills; the child who previously could not complete three task indicators was able to perform them well after the therapy. This study concludes that LEGO play therapy is effective in improving fine motor skills in preschool children. The researcher recommends that this therapy be used more widely in early childhood education settings as a non-pharmacological intervention for health workers and educators.

Abstract

. Breast cancer is one of the most common malignancies affecting women worldwide and frequently requires mastectomy as a definitive treatment. Although mastectomy is effective in controlling disease progression, it often results in significant physical and psychological consequences, particularly disturbances in self-concept and self-acceptance. Impaired self-acceptance may negatively affect psychological adaptation, coping mechanisms, and overall quality of life in post-mastectomy patients. This study aimed to describe the application of the Self Reflection Mirror technique in improving self-acceptance among post-mastectomy breast cancer patients through the framework of Roy Adaptation Model (RAM). A qualitative case study design with a phenomenological approach was employed involving two post-mastectomy breast cancer patients treated at RSUD Dr. M. Yunus Bengkulu. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and nursing documentation. The Self Reflection Mirror intervention was implemented for three consecutive days based on Roy’s self-concept mode. The findings demonstrated an improvement in patients’ self-acceptance, reflected by reduced mirror avoidance, increased positive self-affirmation, improved body image perception, and greater willingness to engage in social interactions. The application of Roy Adaptation Model facilitated adaptive coping responses to physical and psychological changes following mastectomy. This study concludes that the Self Reflection Mirror technique is a beneficial psychosocial nursing intervention to enhance self-acceptance among post-mastectomy breast cancer patients.

Abstract

Tobacco addiction. From a preliminary study of 10 students, data was obtained showing that 7 students admitted to having smoked. Their knowledge of the dangers of smoking was still low for the most part, and their attitudes towards smoking tended to be neutral to positive. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of health education on the dangers of smoking on the knowledge and attitudes of respondents among students at SPMN 5 Bengkulu City. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach with one group. The target population in this study was 186 students, and the sample consisted of 65 respondents. The data analysis technique used in this study was a paired T-test. The knowledge scores before the health education were that most of the respondents (55.4%) had good knowledge, and after the health education, most of the respondents (76.9%) had good knowledge. The attitude scores before the health education were positive for most of the respondents (63.1%), and after the health education, the attitudes were generally positive for the respondents (90.8%). There was a significant effect between knowledge and attitudes before and after the health education about the dangers of smoking on male students at SMPN 5 Bengkulu City. It is hoped that the findings of this study can be used by the school as information in efforts to increase students' knowledge about the dangers of smoking, provide additional insight for the Faculty of Health Sciences at Dehasen University, serve as a reference for future researchers, and provide respondents with an understanding of the impact of smoking on school-age children.

Abstract

Helminthiasis is an infectious disease caused by Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) parasites and remains a health problem for elementary school-aged children. Worm infections can impact nutritional status, reduce immunity, and affect children's concentration and academic achievement. One preventative measure is through health education using engaging learning media such as PowerPoint presentations to increase knowledge and foster positive attitudes about helminthiasis prevention. The method used was a quantitative study with a pre-experimental design using a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The study was conducted at SDN 89 in Bengkulu City, with a sample of 46 respondents drawn using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a knowledge and attitude questionnaire, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the univariate analysis showed that before the education, the majority of respondents (30 respondents (65.2%) had a positive attitude and 16 (34.8%) had a negative attitude, with a median of 27. After the education, the median increased to 32. The knowledge variable also saw an increase in the mean and median scores between the pre-test and post-test. The Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating a significant effect of education using PowerPoint media on students' knowledge and attitudes about helminthiasis at SDN 89, Bengkulu City, in 2025. It is recommended that schools and health workers optimize the use of PowerPoint media or other visual media in providing health education to increase understanding and encourage clean and healthy living behaviors in students.
