Abstract

This study explores the intersection between spiritual ecology and indigenous wisdom as foundational elements for sustainable environmental practices in Indonesia. The research aims to address the underexplored integration of cultural and spiritual values within modern environmental policies by demonstrating how traditional ecological knowledge and spiritual beliefs foster pro-environmental behaviour. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with four individuals actively engaged in conservation work across non-profit, indigenous, household, and educational sectors. Thematic analysis was used to identify key motivational patterns rooted in religious responsibility, spiritual reflection, gratitude for nature, and concern for future generations. The findings reveal that spiritual and indigenous values serve as intrinsic drivers of ecological behaviour, aligning with the Bio-Psycho-Social-Spiritual (BPSS) framework. These values are translated into practical conservation efforts, such as forest protection, biodiversity preservation, and environmental education. The study suggests that the incorporation of indigenous spirituality into environmental governance can produce culturally grounded, ethically robust sustainability models. The originality of this research lies in its empirical linkage between lived spiritual experiences and policy-oriented environmental practices, offering a transdisciplinary perspective that bridges scientific rationality with cultural relevance.

Abstract

Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) have strategic positions in a number of economic sectors, making it pioneers of Indonesian global excellence. Along with the visions it holds, the leaders of Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) must be reliable in business management, always respecting local Indonesian sensibilities. Within the framework of providing an empirical basis in leadership development, this study was aimed at exploring the relationship of facilitative leadership with global mindset, through Indonesian standard culture mediator, in the form of “guyub”. The correlational study, utilizing quantitative analysis, was conducted with 202 employees of two Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). The mediational analysis by Baron and Kenny (1986), with the testing of the scales of influence using Sobel test, showed that facilitative leadership significantly supported global mindset through “guyub”, although the mediating effect was only partial. The implications of the results of this study, for State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), was the need for the acceleration of the provision of intellectual capital (IC) to achieve optimal ability in managing the global uniformity of businesses, markets, and cultures. Two other forms of capital, i.e., social capital (SC) and psychological capital (PC), as the results of domestic multiculturalism, need to be transformed into global uniformity, by the development of intercultural sensitivity as an active component.

Abstract

Environmental sustainability problems caused by human actions have been increasingly threatening our future lives. Consequently, studies on human behavior are needed for ecological improvement purposes. This study examines the personal (Biospheric Value; BV) and organizational (Organizational Readiness to Change; ORtC) factors influencing pro-environmental behavior (PEB) of 257 employees from a textile company. We applied the BV, ORtC, and PEB behavioral scales for data collection, and a regression test for analysis. Regression test results showed that both BV and ORtC contribute significantly to PEB. The results demonstrate that BV and ORtC positively correlate independently with PEB. The results of multiple regression analysis indicate that BV and ORtC simultaneously contribute significantly, approaching a medium size effect in predicting PEB. Strengthening biospheric values through communal relations (guyub) is recommended by leveraging employee gathering events as social platforms for socialization, education, and habituation of PEB in the workplace.

Abstract

This study was aimed at examining the effects or influences of self-identification of trust toward ingroups amongst students from a religion-based and a non-religion based university. As predicted, they who have significantly high self-identification develop higher trust towards figures from ingroups compared to those who have low self-identification. Interestingly, students from the non- religion based university showed stronger tendencies to categorize social stimuli based on religions compared to those from religion-based university. This indicates that the salient group membership did not automatically trigger the tendency to make categorization towards social stimuli.

Abstract

Numerous challenges of Indonesian multicultural society (e.g., intergroup conflicts) indicate the needs for intercultural education. This study attempts to develop a culture-adequate learning pro- gram of intercultural competence for university students in Indonesia. A cultural adaptation of a German cultural-oriented training is conducted. The theoretical framework covers intercultural training, culture learning for students, and cross-cultural learning style of European and Asian stu- dents. Data collection includes expert interviews (N = 5) and focus group discussions of profes- sionals (N = 21). Achievement test, multicultural awareness scale and open ended questionnaire are delivered to 34 psychology students. Content analysis and descriptive statistics are applied. The customized module receives favourable response for its learning strategies and is considered beneficial for students’ multicultural development. The program increases cultural knowledge and cultural diversity awareness.
