Abstract

Social media has created opportunities for children to become victims of bullying, sexual harassment, and other criminal activities. The target of this service activity is children who are in the transition phase to adolescence. This activity aims to educate school-aged children about the impact of social media on mental health and sexual violence against children at SDN 14 Gurun Laweh, Kota Padang. The education is delivered through lectures and discussions, complemented by pre-tests and post-tests to assess knowledge after receiving counseling on the impact of social media on mental health and sexual violence against children. These tests play a crucial role in evaluating the effectiveness of the program and guiding future interventions. Based on the difference in average scores before and after the counseling, students showed a significant improvement in three indicators: social media knowledge, which increased by 6,4; attitudes and actions, which changed by 4,2; and mental health and sexual violence awareness, which improved by 3,5. Preventive steps and interventions are essential to protect children from crime risk. Proper education for children by parents, teachers, and the surrounding community on how to use social media wisely and safely is critical to preventing sexual violence and reducing its negative impact on children's mental health.

Abstract

Today's adolescents face serious challenges related to smoking behavior. This is a crucial issue that requires immediate action through effective educational methods. An interactive educational approach that actively involves adolescents is considered more successful in addressing this issue. This community service activity aims to increase motivation to quit smoking and prevent students of SMPN 23 Padang from starting to smoke for the first time. The aim is to enhance students' understanding of the dangers of smoking through an engaging educational approach. The program will be implemented from October to December 2024, adopting interactive methods such as counseling, emotionally arousing demonstrations, group discussions, experiments, and educational games. The active involvement of students, teachers, and school student organizations (OSIS) will ensure the creation of a school environment that supports a healthy lifestyle. The success of this program is expected to be seen from the high enthusiasm of students and the active participation of teachers. To ensure sustainability, Anti-Smoking Ambassadors will be established, who will continue the prevention and education efforts after the main program ends. The results of this initiative show that a participatory education approach is a practical strategic solution in reducing smoking prevalence among adolescents. It is also an essential step in creating a smoking-free younger generation. It is hoped that this program can be continued sustainably. In addition, it is hoped that this activity can be developed and implemented in the broader area to provide a greater positive impact in preventing smoking among adolescents.

Abstract

The No Smoking Area (KTR) policy is one of the efforts to control the health effects of exposure to cigarette smoke. Its implementation shows a gap between normative goals and reality in the field. Implementation disparities between urban and rural areas indicate that the local context plays an important role in the effectiveness of the policy. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of KTR implementation in Indonesia through a Systematic Literature Review approach with a focus on comparison between urban and rural contexts. The review procedure was conducted based on the PRISMA protocol by screening scientific literature from the Scopus database. KTR implementation faces multidimensional challenges ranging from weak cross-sectoral supervision and coordination, low public awareness, and social resistance to regulations. Compliance is higher in health facilities, but still low in other public spaces, especially in areas with limited institutional capacity. This paper emphasizes the importance of a policy implementation approach that is adaptive to local characteristics and actively involves community actors. This paper also offers practical implications for strengthening KTR policy governance in a more participatory and sustainable manner to support public health development goals.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Title: Environmentally Based Diseases and Pro-Environmental Behavior in Fishermen's Families: Comparison of Island and Mainland AreasBackground: Environmentally-based diseases such as acute respiratory infections, dermatitis, and diarrhea remain significant health problems in Indonesia's coastal fishing communities. Research in coastal areas indicates that the incidence of diarrhea reaches 58%, contact dermatitis 20%, and acute respiratory infections (ARI) 5.5%. Differences in geographic characteristics between island and mainland areas can influence pro-environmental behavior and disease incidence rates. This study aims to analyze differences in the incidence of environment-based diseases and pro-environmental behavior between fishing families in island and mainland areas.Method: This study is a comparative study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted from May to July 2024. The study population was fishermen’s families in Muara Siberut Village (islands) and Pasie Nan Tigo (mainland). A total of 198 respondents were selected using a stratified random sampling technique. The research variables were environment-based diseases and pro-environmental behavior. Data were collected through interviews using structured questionnaires, then analyzed using the chi-square test to see differences between regions..Result:  The results of the study showed that the incidence of ARI and diarrhea was higher in fishing families in Muara Siberut (62.8% and 54.7%) compared to Pasie Nan Tigo (37.2% and 45.3%). The incidence of dermatitis was higher in Pasie Nan Tigo (68.9%) compared to Muara Siberut (31.1%). There were significant differences in the incidence of ARI (p=0.049) and dermatitis (p=0.000), but not in diarrhea (p=0.256). In terms of behavior, there were significant differences in waste disposal methods, footwear habits, and yard maintenance. In contrast, the behavior of opening windows and the presence of vectors did not differ significantly between the two regions. Conclusion: Geographical differences affect pro-environmental behavior and the incidence of environmentally based diseases in fishing families. A policy is needed to strengthen community-based sanitation management in the archipelago as an applicable and sustainable preventive effort.
