Abstract

Education is the most powerful weapon and is the key to success. The livestock farmers' children's education is very important and related to the role of education in increasing knowledge, skill, and attitude, which improves the welfare of the farmer's family. Therefore, improving the farmers' commitment to children's education and the factors affected by it is necessary. Based on the previous statement, this study aimed to reveal the factors influencing farmers' commitment to children's education. This study was conducted in the Baturraden, Sumbang, Kembaran, and Sokaraja Subdistricts, Banyumas Regency, from January to February 2023, using a cross-sectional survey approach. A total of 525 livestock farmers were recorded as respondents. The data obtained were Structural Equational Modeling Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) analyzed utilizing the SmartPLS 4 software. The results of this study showed that the increase in farmers' financial condition, children's desires, interests, and motivation could increase farmers' commitment to children's education. The farmers’ knowledge of education services variables did not affect the farmers’ commitment. Farmers’ financial conditions could indirectly affect farmers’ commitment through interests and motivation. A similar condition also occurred in farmers' children’s desire and knowledge of education services. It could be concluded from this study that improving farmers' financial condition followed by intense government educational services information dissemination could improve farmers' commitment to children's education, which would enhance children's academic level in rural areas of Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe the publication trend in the SCOPUS database concerning animal welfare in halal studies from 2004 to 2024. This study employed a bibliometric analysis approach with the Biblioshiny application and VOSviewer for data visualisation. The results of the study indicated that a significant increase in animal welfare-related research in halal studies occurred in 2014, while the documents that received the most citations were published in 2008. The United Kingdom is the leading nation in publishing documents on animal welfare in halal studies in total; however, the institution with the highest document output is Universiti Putra Malaysia. The results of the keyword co-occurrence analysis revealed that the study clusters can be grouped by animal type: small ruminants, big ruminants, and poultry slaughter. Regarding thematic evolution, studies on stunning and comparisons between halal slaughter and other religious slaughter remain basic themes in the 2004-2014 or 2015-2024 time slices. Niche themes in the first period revolve around biotechnology, food sustainability, and other areas aimed at producing meat fit for consumption. Meanwhile, niche themes in the second period contain animal welfare studies on social media. Bibliographic coupling resulted in clusters on animal welfare and meat quality; a halal supply chain focused on animal welfare; the examination of halal standards across different nations; the application of slaughtering techniques regarding their effectiveness; the implementation of animal welfare in abattoirs; and the prohibited stunning technique in slaughter   Keywords: Animal Welfare, Halal, Evolution, Trend, Bibliometric

Abstract

Kutasari Farm Group, located in Karangcegak Village, Kutasari District, Purbalingga Regency, primarily engages in sheep farming but has long struggled to provide a continuous supply of forage. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of the group members in forage crop cultivation. The program targeted 18 sheep farmers and adopted a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach comprising the stages of problem identification, program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The implementation phase involved socialization, group discussions, and hands-on practice in forage planting, while the evaluation phase included pre-tests and post-tests to assess the training’s effectiveness. The results showed that 80% of participants were engaged in sheep farming, 46% had previously planted forage crops, and 66.7% were capable of practicing intercropping cultivation. After the training, farmers’ knowledge in forage cultivation increased to 93.3%, and 88% expressed willingness to continue participating in the program. Agronomic evaluation of the demonstration plots revealed that the plant heights of Gama Umami grass under the intercropping system, Pakchong grass, Red Napier grass, and Elephant grass (the group’s original forage) were 174 cm, 172 cm, 173 cm, and 101 cm, respectively. These findings indicate a substantial improvement in farmers’ knowledge of forage cultivation, with the intercropping system achieving a 72.2% higher plant height compared to the previously cultivated forage. The results of the training also showed an increase in knowledge and group dynamics of Kutasari Farm.
