Abstract

Since its independence, Indonesia has had to overcome numerous difficulties. Terrorism, radicalism, intolerance, and separatism (TRIS), which endangers Indonesia's unity, are one of the problems. According to numerous studies, many colleges are affected by the threats of terrorism, radicalism, intolerance, and separatism. This study aims to portray how religious moderation is implemented in non-religious universities in West Java. The implementation of religious moderation is seen from six indicators: understanding the concept, university policies about religious moderation, national commitment, tolerance, anti-violence attitudes, the accommodation of local wisdom, and compliance with laws and regulations. A mixed-method approach was used in this study, which was conducted at ten universities in West Java. Observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires were used to obtain the data. University leaders, lecturers, and students served as the data sources. The study concludes that non-religious universities in West Java have a good and enough carrying capacity and anticipatory readiness to stop the expansion of TRIS by enforcing religious moderation. However, to have a powerful deterrent against the rise of terrorism, radicalism, intolerance, and separatism, it is vital to deepen and affirm the commitment to religious moderation.

Abstract

This study concentrated on using project-based learning to help students become more proficient readers, particularly of report texts. This study had two goals, the first is to examine how project-based learning can be used to help students become better readers specially on report texts. Moreover, the study aims to track students' reactions to the implementation of project-based in reading learning. Mixed method design was used as the research design for this study. Additionally, the researchers used several instruments to gather data, including observation sheets, reading tests for students, questionnaires, and interview questions. The study's findings showed that project-based learning, when used to teach students in reading reports text with common themes and constant teacher guidance throughout the reading process may enhance students' reading comprehension. The average score of the students' reading tests taken chronologically shows that the students enhance their reading skills in the report text. The results also demonstrated that students responded positively to the implementation of project-based learning in reading report text. The opinions of the students demonstrated that they believed project-based learning improved their comprehension of the content of the report text. Additionally, since project-based learning enables students to read more comprehensively, it is advised that English teachers use it to teach reading skills for other genres of texts and other language skills.

Abstract

Speaking abilities are seen as crucial ability that students must possess. Many students, however, stay away from communicating in the target language due to a variety of causes. Because of the monotony of the educational procedure, many students are unmotivated to learn to speak. Students require a motivating alternative method to improve their speaking skills. As a result, storytelling is seen as an effective teaching approach. To share a story, storytelling combines a spoken narrative, several digital images, a soundtrack, and modern technologies. As a result, the purpose of this study is to assess vocational high school students' attitudes on the employment of storytelling strategies. This research used mixed method research with 26 participants of the XI class at one state Vocational School in Bandung. The research instruments were questionnaires and interviews. According to the findings of questionnaires and interviews, storytelling can motivate students to learn English, particularly in Speaking. Because storytelling is delivered in a captivating and intriguing manner, it can be an effective technique for teaching speaking. As an alternative approach for learning English, storytelling is recommended.

Abstract

The researcher observed that most students at State Madrasa 2 Bandung lack confidence in learning English. This lack of confidence arises from anxiety about making mistakes when speaking English and concerns about failing to meet learning objectives. To address this issue, the present study evaluates the self-efficacy levels of a single class of twelfth graders at a State Madrasa in Bandung regarding English learning. The study adopted a quantitative approach, using descriptive surveys and a series of questionnaires as research instruments. The survey findings revealed that most students exhibited a moderate level of self-efficacy in learning English. According to the questionnaire responses, students’ self-efficacy levels varied from high to low across different topics. Based on these findings, students with high self-efficacy are encouraged to sustain it, while those with moderate or low self-efficacy require teacher support and engagement to improve. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers adopt appropriate strategies and approaches, along with providing motivation, to enhance students’ self-efficacy.

Abstract

English has been a compulsory subject in higher education across Indonesia. However, concerns about students proficiency remain widespread. Despite the importance of integrating technology into English instruction, especially for enhancing critical reading and thinking skills, many teachers still rely on intuition rather than a systematic needs analysis when developing teaching materials. Consequently, the content often fails to address learners actual needs or improve language mastery effectively. This study aims to explore the specific needs and challenges EFL students face in developing critical reading skills and their perceptions of augmented reality (AR)-based materials used in such classes. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving surveys and interviews with 79 purposively selected students from two private universities in West Java, Indonesia. Findings revealed that students commonly use online platforms as sources for critical reading activities. They acknowledged the importance of critical reading and expressed that AR significantly enhanced their engagement and fostered independent learning. Pedagogical advantages of AR-based materials included promoting multisensory learning, improving students critical literacy and confidence, increasing enjoyment, and supporting a student-centered approach to technology. Additionally, AR allowed for the integration of virtual and real-world element in meaningful learning environments, which helped reduce cognitive load. The students also recognized ARs role in expanding access to education by making learning experiences more inclusive, engaging, and responsive to diverse learning preferences. Overall, AR-based materials were perceived as a valuable tool to support the development of critical reading skills in English language education.
