Abstract

SYAM, N., CHIKMAWATI, T. & RUSTIAMI, H. 2016. A phenetic study of the Calamus flabellatus complex (Palmae) in West Malesia. Reinwardtia 15(1): 27 - 41. — The number of species within the Calamus flabellatus  complex is still under controversy because the taxonomic status of the species is not yet clear. Morphological observations were conducted on 119 collections of Calamus in the Herbarium Bogoriense (BO) and specimen images from the  Singapore Herbarium (SING) and Kew Herbarium (K). The results showed that C. flabellatus complex (all species related to C. flabellatus)  in West Malesia  consisted of eight  species and two varieties, i.e. C. acuminatus, C. amplijugus, C. congestiflorus, C. corrugatus, C. flabellatus, C. hypertrichosus, C. javensis, and C. ruvidus. They can be distinguished using several characters, i.e. leaf sheath, knee, ocrea, leaves, inflorescence, shape of fruit, number scale of fruit and seed. Calamus flabellatus var. laevibus and C. flabellatus var. congestispinosus are two new proposed varieties. Phenetic analysis of C. flabellatus complex in West Malesia divided all species into two major clusters with similarity coefficient of 46%.

Abstract

The prevalence of smoking among school-aged adolescents, specifically those aged 10–18 years, increased according to the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) report. Youth smoking remains a serious public health issue despite various prevention and reduction efforts implemented in many countries, including Indonesia. The aim of educating sixth-grade students at SDN Peulanteu about the dangers of smoking was to enhance their knowledge regarding the risks of smoking for both active and passive smokers. The method used in this community service activity was health education, which included lectures and discussions. The material was delivered by lecturers and students from Teuku Umar University using media such as PowerPoint presentations and leaflets. Additionally, question-and-answer sessions and ice-breaking activities were conducted to increase interaction with participants. This community service activity successfully improved students' understanding of the health risks associated with smoking. The educational sessions fostered enthusiasm among students in grasping the presented material. It is recommended that health workers and educators continue to conduct regular awareness campaigns on the dangers of smoking to strengthen students' understanding. Furthermore, developing more engaging and interactive educational materials, such as digital media or educational games, is suggested to capture students' attention effectively.

Abstract

Infant mortality rate (IMR) is one of the indicators to measure public health status and community welfare. In the last 3 years (2014-2016), the infant mortality rate in Sampang Regency has increased. The purpose of this study is to develop spatial-based modeling of factors affecting infant mortality rates in Sampang. Researchers used an ecological study design where secondary data came from the Health Office and the Central Bureau of Statistics in Sampang Regency. The dependent variable is infant mortality rate, while the independent variables are delivery assisted by health workers, exclusive breastfeeding coverage, neonatal complications handled, K4 visit coverage, LBW percentage, midwife to population ratio, percentage of clean and healthy household behavior. Data has been analyzed and processed using Geoda and Quantum GIS applications. Based on statistical tests, the spatial model is obtained: ŷi= -21.82+0.706 ∑(i=1,i≠j)^n wijyi-0.61* childbirth attended by health worker+0.10* neonatal complications attended by health worker+1.89* LBW babies. Each variable of childbirth assisted by health workers increased by 10, it can decrease the infant mortality rate by 6.1 cases. Each variable of neonatal complications not handled by health workers rises 10 units, it can increase the infant mortality rate by 1 case. each variable of LBW babies rises 1 unit and it can increase infant mortality cases by 1.89 cases. The results of this study can be used to reduce infant mortality rates that occur by intervening in existing factors.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is still a significant health problem, with deaths reaching 1.3 million in 2016. Indonesia has a relatively high incidence of TB cases, reaching 391 cases per 100,000 population. One crucial element in handling tuberculosis cases is cooperating with Health Cadres in the community to solve TB problems. Cadres have an essential role in TB, starting from case detection, drug-taking supervision, and community empowerment. Hence, it is necessary to refresh their knowledge regularly and solve obstacles cadres face in the field. With this vital role, it is essential to consistently update the knowledge and skills of cadres in the community. The purpose of this service is to improve the knowledge and skills of cadres as well as to identify problems and constraints of cadres in society. Refreshment activities are carried out using lecture, and discussion techniques, with the media used being PowerPoint and cadre pocketbooks. Implementation evaluation is carried out using structural evaluation, processes, and results. The results of the evaluation conducted showed that the attendance of participants was >80%, and there was a significant increase in knowledge in participants from the results of the T-paired test that had been carried out. The refreshment activities carried out are always very important to maintain knowledge and skills and solve problems faced by cadres in the community and continually motivate cadres to do community empowerment well to create a healthy community and significantly eliminate tuberculosis cases..

Abstract

Background: Black rice bran has the potential to be a functional food raw material due to its high content of bioactive compounds; however, it is susceptible to microbial contamination. This study aims to evaluate the effect of pasteurization on the microbiological quality of fermented rice bran tempeh using Rhizopus oligosporus and Rhizopus oryzae. Methodology: The study employed a comparative experimental approach, where fermented for 72 hours with R. oligosporus and R. oryzae, grown in PDA medium, with the addition of spore suspensions at 15% each (10⁶ spores/mL). After fermentation, the bran was divided into two groups: one group was steamed for 10 minutes, while the other group was not steamed. Both groups were freeze-dried for 24 hours and then stored at -18 °C for analysis of changes in the profiles of total microbes, total fungi, total enterobacteria, and total spores. The raw material of rice bran was also analyzed microbiologically as a control. Microbiological data were analyzed using the Generalized Linear Model (GLM) and further evaluated by Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level, as determined by SPSS 22.0 software. Findings: The results showed the pasteurization on bran tempeh products was effective in reducing the total number of microbes, moulds, Enterobacteriaceae, and spores compared to those without pasteurization. However, bran tempeh with R. oligosporus culture between pasteurized and unpasteurized did not show a significant decrease (p>0.05), except for the results of the analysis of the total number of moulds which showed a significant decrease (p<0.05), which was <1 log CFU/g (pasteurization) and 3.52 log CFU/g (without pasteurization). It can be concluded that the 10 minutes pasteurization process is effective in reducing the number of Enterobacteriaceae, which are indicators of polluting and pathogenic bacteria. Contribution: this treatment has potential to be applied on a home industry and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) scale to improve safety and extend the shelf life of fermented food products based on bran.

Abstract

Ketidaknyamanan saat haid, atau dismenore, adalah gejala kejang otot rahim. Di antara banyak variabel yang dapat memengaruhi frekuensi dismenore adalah apa yang dimakan. Mencari tahu bagaimana kebiasaan makan mempengaruhi frekuensi dismenore pada remaja putri merupakan pendorong dilakukannya penelitian ini. Strategi penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis observasional cross-sectional. Algoritma slovin digunakan untuk memilih 64 partisipan, yang semuanya adalah remaja putri dari SMPN 2 Meureubo. Evaluasi mengandalkan uji Chi-Square. Pengukuran skala penilaian numerik (NRS) memberikan informasi tentang kejadian dismenore, sedangkan jawaban kuesioner SQFFQ memberikan informasi tentang asupan makanan: Di antara remaja putri yang disurvei, 60,9% memiliki konsumsi makanan yang tidak memadai. Namun, dismenore terlihat pada sebanyak 76,6% kasus. Terdapat korelasi antara konsumsi makanan dan kejadian dismenore (p=0,020), menurut temuan uji chi-square. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa konsumsi makanan berhubungan dengan prevalensi dismenore yang lebih rendah pada remaja putri di SMPN 2 Meureubo Kabupaten Aceh Barat.Kata kunci: Dismenore, Asupan gizi, Remaja putri.

Abstract

The most common problem of malnutrition occurs in toddlers, including the risk of increased infection, stunting, wasting, and underweight. One step to overcome this problem is through interventions to fulfill toddler nutrition with training in Making Supplementary Food (MSF). This community service activity was carried out in Blang Baro Village, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, and involved cadres, midwives, and mothers of toddlers. The method used is the CRP (Community Rural Participatory) approach, which includes the stages of assessment, planning, and implementation of activities. This approach emphasizes empowerment and active participation of participants as the primary strategy. The main ingredients for making MSF, such as mackerel, corn, and green beans, are obtained from traditional markets in Nagan Raya. This activity teaches participants to make MSF products like fish dimsum and green bean corn pudding. The activity results showed that all participants learned how to make the designed MSF products and gained knowledge about selecting nutritious local food ingredients, correct processing techniques, and the importance of fulfilling toddler nutritional needs to support optimal growth and development. However, efforts are needed to increase the diversification of MSF products based on other local foods to increase the attractiveness and variety of consumption for toddlers.

Abstract

Peningkatan manusia dan aktifitas manusia menimbulkan permasalahan sampah yang semakin kompleks, dimana sampah tersebut dapat berdampak kepada kehidupan manusia termasuk kesehatan. Oleh karena itu pengelolaan sampah yang baik perlu diajarkan sejak dini. Tujuan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan edukasi kepada siswa tentang pentingnya pengelolaan sampah dan dampaknya terhadap lingkungan serta mengajarkan siswa tentang cara mengolah sampah plastik menjadi bentuk kerajinan. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan di SD Negeri 10 Meulaboh dengan sasaran kegiatan yaitu siswa kelas 6 sejumlah 22 siswa. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan dilaksanakan dalam 2 tahap kegiatan yaitu penyuluhan kesehatan dan pelatihan pembuatan kerajinan dari sampah plastik. Media yang digunakan berupa slide powerpoint dan juga petunjuk teknis pelatihan. Evaluasi kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui evaluasi struktur, proses, dan hasil. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang telah dilaksanakan oleh tim FIK-UTU telah berjalan dengan sangat baik dengan luaran yang cukup optimal yaitu kemampuan siswa dalam mengelola sampah menjadi kerajinan yang memiliki nilai ekonomis. Untuk terus meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dan membentuk perilaku siswa tentang pengelolaan sampah maka sekolah dapat terus melakukan pemantauan dan evaluasi terhadap perilaku siswa serta memberikan penguatan.

Abstract

Final-year students often experience academic stress, impacting their concentration, motivation, and thesis completion. Additionally, emotional eating has known negative health consequences, with a significant link between depression and weight gain. This quantitative study aimed to explore the relationship between academic stress levels, emotional eating, and the incidence of obesity among 163 final-year nutrition students at Universitas Teuku Umar. Univariate and bivariate tests were conducted for analysis. The findings revealed a significant relationship between academic stress and obesity (p-value = 0.004 < 0.05), with a moderate correlation strength of 0.485. Similarly, a significant relationship was found between emotional eating and obesity (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05). Furthermore, a simultaneous significant relationship between academic stress, emotional eating, and obesity was identified (Chi-Square Asymp Sig = 0.004 < 0.005). The logistic regression model was deemed suitable (Sig value = 0.996 > 0.05), indicating its effectiveness in predicting the observed classifications. The independent variables explained 59.9% of the dependent variable, with other factors accounting for the remainder. In conclusion, academic stress and emotional eating significantly influence the incidence of obesity among final-year nutrition students at Universitas Teuku Umar.

Abstract

Pandemi Coronavirus Disease-19 (Covid-19) disebabkan oleh virus Corona yang penyebarannya meluas keseluruh penjuru dunia dengan kasus terkonfirmasi mencapai > 507 juta jiwa. Kasus Covid-19 di Indonesia mencapai > 6 juta kasus dan kasus di Provinsi Jawa Timur cukup tinggi yaitu hampir 400 ribu jiwa, diantaranya Kabupaten Sumenep dengan jumlah kasus 6386 jiwa. Salah satu upaya untuk mencegah terpapar atau terinfeksinya Covid-19 dapat mengkonsumsi suplemen kesehatan. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui hubungan pengetahuan terhadap konsumsi Suplemen pada mahasiswa Akademi Kesehatan Sumenep. Metode penelitian yaitu menggunakan kuantitatif analitik, studi cross sectional. Populasi mahasiswa Akademi Kesehatan Sumenep, sampel penelitian sebanyak 37 mahasiswa. Variabel independen  yaitu pengetahuan tentang suplemen sedangkan variabel dependen perilaku konsumsi suplemen dianalisis dengan uji Chi Square. Terdapat 12 mahasiswa (32.4 %) yang memiliki pengetahuan cukup akan fungsi Suplemen dan 25 mahasiswa (67.6 %) yang memiliki tingkat pengetahuan baik akan fungsi suplemen. Sedangkan mahasiswa yang mengkonsumsi Suplemen 23 mahasiswa (62.2 %) dan 14 mahasiswa (37.8 %) tidak mengkonsumsi Suplemen. Hasil uji statistik menunjukan ? = 0,012 atau < 0,10. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan antara pengetahuan terhadap konsumsi suplemen. Instansi terkait diharapkan dapat membuat program-program penyuluhan kepada masyarakat luas sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat akan fungsi suplemen terhadap pencegahan Covid-19
