Abstract

Embryonic carcinoma (EC) cells were the first pluripotent cells identified. These cells were derived from malignant germ cell tumors called teratocarcinomas. Embryonal carcinoma also affects young patients but is far less common than yolk sac tumor in the ovary and, when encountered, is always a component of a mixed germ cell tumor.1 Malignant germ cell tumors are subdivided into dysgerminoma and nondygerminomatous tumors. The most common types of nondysgerminomatous tumors are yolk sac and immature teratoma. Mixed germ cell tumors with embryonal carcinoma, nongestational choriocarcinoma, and polyembryoma are less common. Embryonal carcinomas, though rare, are one of the most malignant cancers arising in the ovary.2In this case report, a 4,5-year-old girl was diagnosed with suspected embryonal ovarian carcinoma after complaints having menstruation for three months, develop pubic hair and breast. This patients later had laparotomy surgical staging and undergoing chemotherapy.

Abstract

Abstract

Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecological cancer in developed countries, second most in poor countries and developing countries after cervical cancer. Most endometrial cancer patients come with complaints of bleeding and come at an early stage. It’s important to make the right diagnosis to determine the appropriate treatment. Treatment depends on the stage determined by surgery. After surgery, the patient’s risk was classified as low, moderate, or high risk. This risk is determined by stage, cell type, differentiation, involvement of blood vessels and lymph vessels. From these risk factors, it is determined whether or not additional postoperative therapy is needed in the form of radiation or chemotherapy. Secretory type of endometrial cancer is a rare endometrial malignancy. This case’s population is 1-2% of all endometrial cancer. Histologically, this type of cancer belongs to type one. We report a secretory type of endometrial cancer case in a 41-year-old woman with a complaint of irregular menstruation, and a total hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo oophorectomy, bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy and para-aortic lymphadenectomy was done. Histologically, secretory carcinoma must be separated from carcinoma clear cell to determine the prognosis.

Abstract

HIGHLIGHTS The size of curcumin was modified to nano scale in order to enhance its bioavailability and facilitate its absorption in the body. As a herbal medicine, nano-curcumin has the ability to reduce proteinuria and serve as a preventive measure against preeclampsia.   ABSTRACT Objective: Since preeclampsia is one of the most serious hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, as it occurs in 5-7% of all pregnancies, and causes around 70,000 maternal deaths and 500,000 fetal deaths worldwide each year, this study aimed to determine the effect of nano-curcumin on proteinuria in pregnant white rats (Rattus norvegicus) with preeclampsia. Materials and Methods: In this study, 24 white rats (Rattus norvegicus) were randomly selected and divided into six groups. Inclusion criteria included healthy rats aged 8 weeks or older, with normal blood pressure and weight, while exclusion criteria included sick, deceased, or prematurely birthing rats, and those with high blood pressure. Treatment, administered over six days from gestational days 13-18, involved L-NAME and nano-curcumin injections. Groups included K- (no treatment) and K+, P1, P2, P3, and P4 (treated with L-NAME and varying nano-curcumin doses). Blood pressure and proteinuria were evaluated on gestation days 12, 15, and 19 to confirm the preeclampsia model and assess nano-curcumin's effect on proteinuria. Urine collected over 24 hours in metabolic cages preceded the rats' termination. Data analysis utilized IBM SPSS version 23, including the Shapiro-Wilk test, parametric independent sample t-tests, One-Way ANOVA tests, and LSD post-hoc tests to identify group differences.   Results: The results of this study showed that nano-curcumin had the effect of reducing proteinuria in white rats with preeclampsia. The significant results of the One-Way Anova test was p=0.001 (p <0.05) and the LSD post-hoc test revealed that the effective dose was 25 mg/ml. It was found that higher nano-curcumin dose had a higher average of proteinuria. Conclusion: Nano-curcumin can affect proteinuria in preeclampsia. The most effective dose is 25 mg/ml.

Abstract

Cervical cancer, mainly driven by oncogenic HPV infections, remains a global health burden. Cisplatin is standard chemotherapy for advanced cases but is limited by toxicity. Nano liposomal curcumin, with improved bioavailability, may enhance cisplatin’s efficacy. This study investigated the combination’s effect on HeLa cells by analyzing Cyclin E1 and Bcl-2 expression. Nano liposomal curcumin was synthesized using thin-film hydration, yielding stable 32 nm nanoparticles. HeLa cells were divided into control and treatment groups, and varying doses of nano liposomal curcumin with cisplatin were received. Flow cytometry revealed significant reductions in Cyclin E1 (from 18.62 ± 1.45 to 5.79 ± 0.47) and Bcl-2 (from 32.56 ± 0.82 to 28.19 ± 0.30) at the highest dose (p < 0.05). Cell viability decreased to 9% with cisplatin alone and 1% with the combination. These results indicate that nano liposomal curcumin enhances cisplatin’s antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic effects, supporting its potential as an adjuvant to lower cisplatin doses while maintaining efficacy. Further research involving additional molecular markers, in vivo models, and clinical trials is needed to optimize dosing, confirm safety, and evaluate therapeutic potential.

Abstract

Cisplatin is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent for cervical cancer, but its effectiveness is often limited by cellular resistance and severe side effects. Curcumin has demonstrated potential to enhance cisplatin's anticancer effects by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting cell proliferation; however, its clinical use is constrained by poor solubility and low bioavailability. To overcome these limitations, liposomal nanocurcumin was developed. This study aimed to evaluate the synergistic effects of cisplatin and nanocurcumin on Bax and BrdU expression as markers of apoptosis and proliferation in HeLa cervical cancer cells. A true experimental post-test only design was employed with five groups: HeLa cell control (no treatment), positive control (cisplatin 5 µg/mL), and three treatment groups receiving cisplatin 2.5 µg/mL combined with nanocurcumin at 25, 50, and 100 µg/mL. Cells were incubated for 48 hours and analyzedusing flow cytometry. The combination treatment significantly increased Bax expression and reduced BrdU expression compared to cisplatin alone, with the strongest effect observed at 100 µg/mL nanocurcumin. These findings suggest that nanocurcumin may serve as a promising adjuvant to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of cisplatin by promoting apoptosis and suppressing proliferation in cervical cancer cells.
