Abstract

The smooth loading and unloading of logs at the port requires a reliable support system; therefore, PT. Pelindo Multi Terminal's Gresik Branch implemented PTOS-M (Pelindo Terminal Operating System Multipurpose) to improve log handling performance. This study aims to determine the effect of PTOS-M implementation on log loading and unloading performance at the company. A descriptive quantitative and causal-associative approach was used, applying simple linear regression analysis with SPSS 26 based on questionnaires, observations, and documentation involving 50 respondents. Descriptive results show PTOS-M implementation scored an average of 4.024, while log loading and unloading performance scored an average of 4.192. The regression coefficient (b = 0.292) indicates a positive relationship between the two variables. The R² value of 0.680 shows that PTOS-M implementation accounts for 68% of the variation in log handling performance, with the remaining 32% explained by other factors outside this study. The t-test produced a calculated t-value of 2.021 > t-table 2.011, with a significance level of 0.049 < 0.05, indicating that PTOS-M implementation has a positive and significant effect on log loading and unloading performance.

Shipping has a vital role in history, economy, and the environment, especially in an archipelagic country like Indonesia. One of the important aspects of modern ship operation is the treatment of waste through the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), where the aeration blower functions to provide oxygen for aerobic bacteria that decompose waste. This study analyzes the non-optimal performance of aeration blower in SBT-40 type STP on MV ships. Muhasyir. A decrease in air pressure from 0.02 MPa to 0.008 MPa causes unpleasant odors and disruption of the biodegradation process. The research methods include observation, interviews, documentation studies, and literature reviews. The results showed damage to the rotor and blower bearings due to lack of periodic maintenance and inconsistent implementation of the Planned Maintenance System (PMS). The causative factors were analyzed using fishbone diagrams, including human, machine, method, material, environmental, and measurement aspects. The proposed solution includes technical training, regular inspections, replacement of wear components, and installation of pressure and vibration sensors. This study emphasizes the importance of preventive maintenance and monitoring systems to maintain the effectiveness of STPs in supporting environmentally friendly shipping.

Abstract

Abstract

The ever-increasing demand for electrical energy on ships drives the development of renewable energy sources as an alternative to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. This study aims to design and evaluate a prototype wind power generator utilizing an Archimedes-type wind turbine as a supplementary energy source for ship electrical systems. The research employs a Research and Development (R&D) methodology, encompassing design, prototype fabrication, and both static and dynamic testing phases. The prototype comprises an Archimedes wind turbine, a DC generator, a Solar Charge Controller (SCC), a LiFePO4 battery, an inverter, a step-down module, and an ESP32-based monitoring system. Test results indicate that the DC generator produces a maximum voltage of 13.9 V with a charging current of 17.6 mA at a rotational speed of 1,199.1 rpm. In dynamic testing, wind approaching from the front-left yielded the best performance, with a charging current of 17.7 mA and a charging voltage of 5.7 V, whereas wind from the rear produced no electrical output. Field tests demonstrated that locations free from building obstructions resulted in higher and more stable charging compared to locations obstructed by buildings. The study concludes that the Archimedes-type wind turbine has the potential to serve as a renewable energy source supporting ship electrical systems, with performance influenced by wind direction and environmental conditions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the physical condition of mooring lines and supporting mooring components on the smooth berthing process of MT. GIAT ARMADA BERSAMA 04. The berthing process is a critical operational phase requiring a highly reliable mooring system to ensure the safety of the vessel, cargo, crew, and port facilities. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through field observations across 12 berthing operations, structured interviews with deck officers, and document analysis. The findings revealed that the physical deterioration of the spring lines—specifically characterized by a visible diameter reduction, bird-caging, and surface abrasion exceeding the 10% broken strand threshold—contributed to severe operational difficulties. Furthermore, corroded deck fittings increased mechanical friction, leading to ropes jamming in the mooring chocks and significant delays in tension adjustment. Evaluated against the retirement criteria and inspection parameters defined by the OCIMF Mooring Equipment Guidelines (MEG4) and IMO safety mandates, the vessel’s mooring components operated below acceptable minimum breaking load (MBL) safety margins. Immediate replacement of degraded lines and the implementation of a strict Line Management Plan (LMP) are imperative to restore operational precision, mitigate occupational hazards, and enhance overall port efficiency.
