Abstract

This journal aims to analyze the role of parents in increasing the literacy of elementary school age students. Parents are someone who is very close to the child. Parents are tasked with providing important stimulations in an effort to improve the literacy abilities of elementary school-age children. Many literacy movements have been carried out in schools to encourage elementary school-age children to like reading, but actually the key to reading for children depends on the active role of parents. The results of the data analysis show that there are 6 types of parental involvement which include involvement in the form of parenting, communication, volunteering, empowering learning at home, collaboration with the community and decision making. Although parental involvement has its own challenges, it has been proven to help increase not only student literacy, in reading and writing, but also literacy in other areas that reflect real-world literacy. It is hoped that the results of this research can inspire related parties on how to empower the role of parents to increase student literacy.

Abstract

To overcome boredom during classroom learning, teachers can conduct ice-breaking activities to keep students' learning spirit alive. This study aims to examine the implementation of ice-breaking techniques in enhancing students' interest in learning at elementary schools. The research method used in this study is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The research subjects are second-grade students and subject teachers who are the objects of the study. The research is conducted using observation and interviews with teachers and students at the elementary school that is the object of the study. The results of the study indicate that ice-breaking techniques can enhance students' interest in learning, especially in subjects considered difficult. Additionally, this technique can also strengthen the relationship between students and teachers.

Abstract

This study has objectives which include (1) providing a description of Civics Learning planning in the formation of student discipline behavior; (2) compiling a program to develop student discipline behavior; and (3) evaluating the development of students' disciplinary behavior. The approach and type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The informants who were the source of the research data were the deputy principal, teachers, and students from SD Negeri 15 Koto Lalang. The results of the study show that at the planning stage, the teacher plans the development of disciplinary behavior by integrating this behavior into the assessment stage carried out by the teacher using a behavior development diary and observation sheets of student behavior during the learning process. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that undisciplined student behavior is seen in routine activities such as queuing and doing assignments given by the teacher.

Abstract

The Independent Teaching Platform (PMM) is a technology platform that accommodates teachers to obtain references, inspiration and understanding of the independent curriculum. This platform also helps teachers to develop their own creativity, because the learning features on the Independent Platform provide independent training facilities with unlimited access. This study aims to analyze the use of the Independent Teaching Platform (PMM) in increasing teacher competence in elementary schools. This type of research uses descriptive qualitative research with data collection techniques through questionnaires indirectly through the Google form. The research results showed that the benefits of the Independent Platform were felt by 90.5% of teachers in West Sumatra played a role in increasing the competence of teachers in elementary schools.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of reward and punishment for students at SD Negeri 08 Sarilamak. In this study, researchers used a qualitative descriptive approach. The method used is the method of observation and interviews. The research location was carried out at SD Negeri 08 Sarilamak. The results of the study show that student learning motivation is related to the teacher giving rewards and punishments to students on the condition that they are given properly and appropriately. Giving rewards is related to how the teacher teaches students about good values in which students are given awards if they do good or positive things. Conversely, the teacher will give punishment if students do something that is not good or negative. This is so that students do not repeat the negative actions or violations that they have committed.

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the mandatory subjects that every student needs to understand. In mathematics, fractions are one of the materials that students consider difficult. Several studies have found that students cannot understand the concept of fractions well. Students' ability to understand mathematics is called mathematical comprehension ability. This ability is a basic ability in mastering mathematics. One model that is considered capable of improving students' mathematical abilities is the discovery learning model. This research aims to reveal the effectiveness of the discovery learning model in improving coastal students' mathematical understanding. This research is quantitative research using a pre-experiment design which was carried out at SDN 111 Buton in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. Based on the results of data processing and analysis, researchers found that the discovery learning model can improve coastal students' mathematical understanding abilities. These findings are evidence that this learning model can be used to improve coastal students' mathematical understanding abilities. Therefore, this model can be an alternative in improving students' mathematical abilities. Matematika sebagai salah satu mata pelajaran wajib yang perlu dipahami oleh setiap siswa. Dalam matematika, pecahan merupakan salah satu materi yang dianggap sulit oleh siswa. Beberapa penelitian menemukan bahwa siswa tidak dapat memahami konsep pecahan dengan baik. Kemampuan siswa dalam memahami matematika disebut dengan kemampuan pemahaman matematika. Kemampuan ini merupakan kemampuan dasar dalam menguasai matematika. Salah satu model yang dianggap mampu meningkatkan kemampuan matematika siswa adalah model discovery learning. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap keefektifan model discovery learning dalam meningkatkan coastal students' mathematical understanding. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif yang menggunakan desain pre-experiment yang dilaksanakan di SDN 111 Buton pada semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2022/2023. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan dan analisis data, peneliti menemukan bahwa model discovery learning dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa pesisir. Temuan tersebut menjadi bukti bahwa model pembelajaran ini dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa pesisir. Oleh karena itu, model ini dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif di dalam meningkatkan kemampuan matematis peserta didik.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the placement of Enhanced Spelling (EYD) in a scientific work. EYD is a guideline used to improve and perfect Indonesian spelling. Scientific work is a type of writing that has specificity in the style of writing and the use of appropriate language. In this research, we collect several scientific papers from various disciplines and analyze the use of EYD in them. The method used is literature study and content analysis. We identify and compare the use of EYD in the context of words, punctuation, and other grammatical rules. The results of the analysis show variations in the use of EYD in scientific work. Some scholarly works adhere strictly to the EYD rules, paying attention to every aspect of spelling and grammar. However, several scientific works also show violations or deviations from the EYD rules. In this study, we also identify factors that influence the placement of EYD in scientific work. These factors include the author's background, scientific discipline, and language usage habits. This research is expected to provide a better understanding of the use of EYD in scientific work and provide recommendations for increasing awareness and compliance with EYD rules. In conclusion, this study reveals variations in the placement of EYD in scientific work. The importance of understanding and applying EYD rules in scientific work is a major concern. Consistent and correct use of EYD will improve the quality and uniformity of scientific writing, and make it easier for readers to understand and evaluate scientific work.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze reading difficulties faced by high school students in elementary school and identify the causal factors. The type of research used is qualitative with descriptive methods. Collecting data using the method of observation, interviews and literature review. The research subject was SDN 14 Kampung Jambak, students of class IV. The results showed that the factors causing students' reading difficulties were 1) not understanding complex words and sentences, 2) lack of understanding of vocabulary, 3) not understanding sentences and text structures, 4) not yet mastering problem-solving skills, especially in reasoning, 5) lack of motivation and interest in reading students, 6) lack of reading practice, and 7) lack of support from the environment. Difficulty reading in high school grades is a complex challenge and requires an appropriate and sustainable approach. Educators, as well as parents, need to work together to identify and provide appropriate support for students who experience reading difficulties. Effective interventions involve approaches that focus on reading strategies and vocabulary mastery. In addition, it is important to create a positive and supportive learning environment, which can increase students' interest and motivation in reading.

Abstract

Literacy and numeracy are the abilities of students to use basic mathematics in solving daily life problems, and students should have it. Various studies have shown that Indonesian students' literacy and numeracy skills still need to improve. One of the solutions to this problem is RME, and one of the components that influence this skill is teachers as a facilitator and their experiences. Thus, this research aims to refigure how students who receive Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) literacy and numeracy skills improve based on teacher's experiences. The research subjects are third, fourth, and fifth-grade students in elementary schools in Padang. Three schools were selected for each grade level and taught by three teachers with different experiences. The students were given literacy and numeracy problems before and after RME instruction. The answers were assessed and grouped to examine the student's literacy and numeracy achievement. The research results show that student's literacy and numeracy skills are better with RME learning. Student's literacy and numeracy skills are not influenced by teachers' experience.
