Abstract

The production of household waste increases every day in line with the increase in the number of products and the comsumption pattern of people. The things that must be done to overcome the increase in the amount of waste is by reducing the amount of waste from its source using waste. This study aims to determine the role of the community in the management of inorganic waste through the Waste Bank in the Malaimsimsa District and how much is the contribution of the Waste Bank in reducing the amount of inorganic waste in the Malaimsimsa District and the income that can be obtained through the Waste Bank. This study used a qualitative description method. The results of this study indicate that the existence of a Waste Bank in Malaimsimsa District can reduce waste production in the final dumpsite, but waste recycling and sorting have not been maximally carried out by the community and Waste Bank managers. The composition of the wastes in Malaimsimsa District consists of 39.90% inorganic waste that consist of 29.11% of plastics, 8.8% of papers, 0.17% of glasses/bottles, and 1.82% of iron/can.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the potential nutritional value of livestock feed ingredients from agricultural products and their waste (by-product / residues) that had been utilized by pig farmers in Manokwari. This research was conducted by a survey method of some agricultural commodity-based animal feed sources and their associated results at 10 sampling locations. Feeds are collected and analyzed according to the proximate analysis of feed ingredients at the Nutrition and Animal Feed laboratory, Bogor Agricultural University. Samples of farmers are chosen purposely on smallholder farmers who have been utilizing these feed sources. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results of the study found that feed was used by combining food waste originating from markets, restaurants, fried food sellers, fish auctions, garden products and kitchen wastes (swill-feed). Types of feed from various sources are mixed and cooked together before being given to pigs. Food waste is obtained free of charge, but there is a small portion that buys and a combination of both. Feeding is practiced 1-3 times a day. Nutrient content (g/100 g) in the form of water was 9.47, PK 25.10, fat 11.75 g, SK 7.96, GE 4308.90, ash 8.58, Ca 2.35 and P 0.94. The SNI standards have met the standard criteria to be prepared and given to pigs.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This community service activity aimed to improve the technical compliance of qurban animal slaughter based on halal principles and animal welfare standards at Darul Ulum Mosque, Amban Village, West Manokwari District, Manokwari Regency. A case study approach with participatory techniques was employed, involving certified Halal Slaughterers (Juleha), qurban committees, university students, and experts. The activities covered antemortem inspection, slaughtering, postmortem examination, and meat distribution. The results showed that the slaughtering process was conducted in accordance with Islamic Sharia principles, ensuring the proper severance of the three main channels efficiently and swiftly. Postmortem inspection revealed parasitic infestations (fasciola hepatica and parampistomon) in several organs, which were handled appropriately following established protocols. Improvements are still needed in animal holding facilities, particularly regarding feed, water supply, and sanitation prior to slaughter. This program significantly enhanced the technical capacity of Juleha and the qurban committee, strengthening the implementation of halalan thayyiban and animal welfare principles at the mosque community level. Keywords: Animal welfare; halal slaughter; Juleha; postmortem inspection; qurban   ABSTRAK Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kepatuhan teknis penyembelihan hewan qurban sesuai prinsip halal dan kesejahteraan hewan (animal welfare) di Masjid Darul Ulum, Kelurahan Amban, Distrik Manokwari Barat, Kabupaten Manokwari. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah studi kasus dengan teknik partisipatif, melibatkan Juru Sembelih Halal (Juleha), panitia qurban, mahasiswa, dan tenaga ahli. Abstract

Forage productivity strongly depends on appropriate fertilization strategies, particularly in the cultivation of Pennisetum purpureum (elephant grass), a key tropical livestock feed. This study aimed to compare the effects of three fertilizer types—goat manure compost, urea, and NPK—on the productivity of elephant grass grown on inceptisol soil. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed with four treatments (no fertilizer, 2 tons/ha compost, 150 kg/ha urea, and 422 kg/ha NPK) and three replications. Observed parameters included fresh biomass yield, dry matter yield, and organic matter yield. The results indicated that NPK treatment significantly outperformed others in all parameters: fresh biomass (35.27 tons/ha), dry matter (5.88 tons/ha), and organic matter (5.35 tons/ha). Urea provided moderate results, while compost did not significantly differ from the control. These findings suggest that NPK delivers readily available macronutrients, which greatly enhance vegetative growth. Nevertheless, goat manure compost holds long-term potential to improve soil structure and fertility. The study recommends integrating organic and inorganic fertilization as a sustainable approach in tropical forage production systems. Keywords: Elephant grass, NPK fertilizer, urea, goat manure, forage productivity, organic matter, vegetative growth
