Abstract

Overweight and obesity, among others, arise from not choosing food intake properly. It was triggered by a shift in people-trend which prefer to buy food outside than at home, mainly during college period. Student food choices that are characterized by high energy, fat, salt, and low fiber can impact on fat accumulation and overweight. The study aimed to explore the association between eating out with overweight and obesity among college student at Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta. This study used a cross-sectional design. As many as 206 respondents were taken using convenience sampling. Data was collected through Google Forms, height and weight were measured based on independent reports and presented descriptively. The relationship between eating out habits and obesity was analized using Chi Square. The prevalence of overweight and obesity among college students was 11.2% and 52.4%, respectively. There was a relationship between eating out habits purchased directly with overweight and obesity in Sebelas Maret University students (p 0,047). Eating out can increase the risk of overweight/obesity in college students. It is necessary to pay attention to the selection of types of food consumed by students outside the home.

The research was conducted in March-April 2023. Eating habits were measured using a questionnaire that had gone through reliability and validation tests and sedentary data using the Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ) instrument. Bivariate data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between eating habits (p<0.00), sedentary lifestyle (p<0.00), and place of residence (p<0.015) and the nutritional status of students. 11.2% were overweight and 52.4% of students were obese. It was concluded that eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, and place of residence are related to the nutritional status of students at Sebelas Maret University. Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Nutrients that play an important role in the formation of thyroxin (T4, pro-hormone) and triiodotironim (T3, the active hormone) which are elements of the formation of thyroid hormone in thyroid follicle cells are iodine. However, iodine absorption is affected by goitrogen, one of which is cyanide. This study is an observational analytical study with a Cross Sectional design on 50 hyperthyroid patients undergoing treatment at the Magelang Health Research and Development Center. Intake data was obtained by the 2x24-hour recall method while TSH and FT4 data were obtained from laboratory examinations conducted at the Magelang Health Research Institute. The results showed that there was a relationship between iodine intake and TSH levels of hyperthyroid patients (p<0.05). Meanwhile, iodine intake with FT4 levels was not significant (p=0.319). There is a meaningful relationship between iodine intake and TSH levels of hyperthyroid patients.

Abstract

The prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls in the working area of Wani Public Health Center, Donggala District, remains relatively high, reaching 49.2% in 2024. Several contributing factors include poor breakfast habits, poor sleep quality, and abnormal menstrual duration. This study aims to examine the association between breakfast habits, sleep quality, and menstrual duration with the incidence of anemia among adolescent girls. This study highlights the combined role of lifestyle factors (breakfast and sleep quality) and biological factors (menstrual duration) in relation to anemia, which has been scarcely explored in this setting. This research employed a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. The study population included all female students in the working area of Wani Public Health Center (n = 81). A total of 68 respondents were selected using the Slovin formula and purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi-square test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The findings revealed significant associations between breakfast habits and anemia (p = 0.000), sleep quality and anemia (p = 0.000), and menstrual duration and anemia (p = 0.000) among adolescent girls. Breakfast habits, sleep quality, and menstrual duration are significantly associated with incidence anemia among adolescent girls. These findings provide a basis for preventive efforts through nutrition education, improvement of sleep quality, and monitoring of menstrual health among adolescents.
