Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimal dose and time of KCl fertilizer application that can increase the growth and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays var. saccharata). The study was conducted on land owned by the Secondary Crop Seedling Development Plantation Rendole I Pati from July to October 2022. The method used,  was a factorial experiment with a completely randomized block design consisting of two factors, each having three replications. The first factor is the dose of KCl fertilizer (d), which consists of four levels). The first factor is the dose of KCl fertilizer (d) consisting of four levels, namely 0, 50, 100, and 150 kg ha-1. The second factor is the time of KCl fertilizer application (p), namely: administration at 15 and 30 days after planting (p1) and administration at 15 and 45 days after planting (p2). The results showed that the dose of KCl fertilizer affected various parameters of growth and yield of sweet corn plants, between fresh cob cloth with and without husks, fresh weight of cobs, cob length, cob diameter, number of seeds per row, and sugar content. The dose of 100 kg ha-1 showed better results, especially in increasing the fresh weight of cobs with husks and the weight of cobs. Meanwhile, the time of KCl fertilizer application only affected the height of sweet corn plants at the age of 5 days after planting. There was no significant interaction between the dose of KCl fertilizer and the time of KCl fertilizer application. Therefore, to increase the yield of sweet corn, it is recommended to use a dose of KCl fertilizer of 100 kg ha-1 and apply it at the ages of 15 and 30 days after planting.

Abstract

Abstract

Legume plants play an important role in agricultural systems. Nitrogen is an essential nutrient required by plants for both vegetative and generative growth. Nitrogen-fixing bacteria commonly used in agriculture belong to the genus Rhizobium spp. Rhizobium is a Gram-negative bacterium that inhabits the rhizosphere region of plants. Agronomically, this bacterium has the ability to form symbiotic relationships with leguminous plants, which play a significant role in maintaining soil fertility. Peanut, soybean, yardlong bean, and mung bean were the legume crops used in this study. Isolation of Rhizobium bacteria was carried out using the serial dilution method from 10?¹ to 10??. The isolates obtained were subjected to hemolysis testing and morphological characterization on YEMA (Yeast Extract Mannitol Agar) medium. Blood agar medium was used for the hemolysis test. The highest population of Rhizobium bacteria was found in mung bean and yardlong bean rhizosphere soils, each with 3.0 × 10? CFU/g. Most Rhizobium isolates exhibited milky white, translucent white, and pink colony colors. A total of 16 isolates were obtained from soybean, 16 from yardlong bean, 7 from peanut, and 8 from mung bean. Morphologically, Rhizobium colonies were generally circular, flat, and exhibited whitish-pink to translucent coloration.

Abstract

The productivity of curly red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) remains relatively low due to suboptimal management of plant growth regulators, particularly gibberellic acid (GA?). Although GA? is known to stimulate vegetative growth and reproductive development, information regarding the effectiveness of different application timings and GA? concentrations in curly red chili is still limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of GA? application timing and concentration on the growth and yield of curly red chili and to identify the most effective treatment. The novelty of this study lies in the comprehensive evaluation of the combined effects of GA? application timing and concentration on both vegetative growth and yield components of curly red chili within a single experimental framework. The experiment was conducted from June to September 2025 at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muria Kudus, using a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The first factor was GA? application timing (3, 6, and 8 weeks after transplanting, WAT), while the second factor was GA? concentration (0, 90, 110, and 130 ppm). The results showed that there was no significant interaction between application timing and GA? concentration for most growth and yield parameters. A GA? concentration of 130 ppm produced the best response, increasing plant height to 71.11 cm, leaf number to 147.92 leaves, branch number to 4.56 branches, accelerating flowering to 24.64 days after transplanting (approximately 36.1% earlier than the control), increasing fruit number to 27.22 fruits per plant (approximately 17.1% higher than the control), and producing the highest shoot dry weight of 27.22 g. This study provides further evidence of the physiological responses of curly red chili to different GA? concentrations and application timings. Practically, the findings suggest that the application of 130 ppm GA? can be recommended as an effective cultivation strategy to improve the growth and productivity of curly red chili.
