Abstract

The research entitled “ Study on Macrozoobenthos Community in the Waters of the River Air Perikan Pagar Alam Municipality”, was conducted from November 2007 until March 2008. The aims of the research: to know about composition, density, diversity index, dominancy index, and similarity index, which based on the different microhabitat types. Sampling was carried out on November 2007. Five sampling stations were determined by survey method  and the Purposive Sampling method was used at each sampling point to find stony, gravel, sandy and leaf pack area as a different microhabitat substrate. Twenty one orders (Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera, Diptera, Plecoptera, Collembola, Hemiptera, Odonata, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Megaloptera, Hymenoptera, Orthoptera, Decapoda, Plesiopora, Tricladida, Amphipoda, Isopoda, Mesogastropoda, Ctenobranchiata, Eulamellibranchiata, and Rhynchobdellida) which are consisted of 70 families and 151 genera were identified from four types of substrates on each sampling station. According to this research, station 4 has the highest in composition (80 genera), and the lowest one at station 1(33 genera). The highest abundance was 12589 ind./m2  found in the station 5, and the lowest one was in the station 1 approximately 880 ind./m2. For the diversity index value, station 3 was the highest (3.1) and the lowest one was station 5 (1.9). The Dominancy index was found in station 5 at the sandy substrates was  approximately 0,8 index, which dominated by Tubifex sp. There were  differences species composition  on each station. Keywords : Macrozoobenthos, community, the river Air Perikan.

Abstract

One of the downstream areas of the Komering River with potential for capture fisheries is Sungai Dua Village. One of the types of fish caught by fishermen in Sungai Dua is the three spot gourami (Trichogaster trichopterus). The three spot gourami fish is a type of freshwater consumption fish that has high economic value. But the fishes only rely on catches from nature. If the fishing is carried out continuously, without domestication and cultivation, it will cause a decline in the fish population. The research about the biological aspects of red-eye septic fish (Trichogaster trichopterus) which include food habits, relationship length and weight, condition factors and stomach fullness index. This research was conducted from April to June 2017. Sampling was carried out in the downstream waters of the Komering River in Sungai Dua Village, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. Fish samples were analyzed at the Animal Taxonomy Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, Sriwijaya University. The determination of stations in sampling was carried out using multiple sampling methods, namely purposive sampling and quota sampling. The result of this research showed that (1) the Cyanophyta is the main food for the three spot gourami, Diatomae and Desmidiacae as a complementary food, while the additional foods are Rhizopoda, Chlorophyta, Ostracoda, and Entomostraca, (2) The growth pattern of red-eyed fish is negative allometric with a b value of -2 (b <3), the increase in length is faster than the weight gain, (3) The highest condition factor value is found in the size range 6.01-7.00 cm of 23.25 gr / cm and the lowest condition factor value is in the size range 5.01-6.00 cm of 0.62 gr / cm, and (4) The highest hull fullness index value of the red eye sepat fish hull is in the size range 7.01-8.00 cm at 32.86% and the lowest hull fullness index value at the size range 8.01-9.00 cm is 2.05% .

Abstract

The coal open mining is an activity that has an impact on the environment, including acid mine drainage (AMD). The management of AMD can be done by phytoremediation using Chinese Waterchestnut (Eleocharis dulcis Burm.f.) Trin. ex Hensch.) on system of constructed wetlands (CWs). So the research was carried out with the aim of evaluation the accumulation of heavy metals iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) which were absorbed in E. dulcis in constructed wetlands system at WTP Air Laya PT. Bukit Asam. The accumulation of Fe in the roots of E. dulcis was 986.42 ppm (w/w) while the accumulation of Fe in the leaves was 392.22 ppm (w/w). The accumulation of Mn in the roots of E. dulcis was 24.49 ppm (w/w), while the accumulation of Mn in the shoots was 96.83 ppm (w/w). E. dulcis is known to have the potential to increase AMD pH and reduce levels of Fe, Mn and SO42- so that it can meet the quality standards of coal mining activity wastewater. The accumulation of Fe and Mn in the roots and shoots of E. dulcis and on AMD can be used as an effort to monitor the success of AMD phytoremediation on Constructed Wetlands system at WTP Air Laya.
