Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) merupakan minyak nabati yang diekstrak dari endosperma kelapa segar dan matang tanpa penyulingan kimia atau panas tinggi. VCO dapat diproduksi dengan beberapa metode, salah satunya adalah metode enzimatik nanas. Hasil produksi VCO enzimatik nanas memiliki keunggulan dibandingkan metode lainnya. Nanas merupakan tanaman yang relatif mudah dibudidayakan di Indonesia, namun pemanfaatan nanas masih belum maksimal, biasanya hanya sebagai olahan makanan atau minuman yang dapat dikonsumsi langsung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui cara produksi VCO menggunakan metode enzimatik dari buah nanas dan parameter fisik VCO yang dihasilkan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode campuran. Hasil penelitian ini menghasilkan minyak sebanyak 40 ml dengan kejernihan bening, aroma sedikit menyengat khas kelapa, dan memiliki rasa khas minyak kelapa.

Abstract

Combination herbal or polyherbal offers advantages by synergizing multiple plants to address health issues more effectively. Meniran and turmeric are traditionally used medicinal plants with notable pharmacological activities due to their bioactive compounds. This study investigated the curative effect of a meniran-turmeric extract combination on immunocompetent cells, particularly NK and CD8 cells, and on liver histopathology in mice administered 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA). Female BALB/c mice (Mus musculus) were injected subcutaneously with DMBA at 45 mg/kg body weight (BW) in the mammary gland area and maintained for eight weeks. They were then treated with a 1:1 meniran-turmeric extract combination for two weeks at doses of 100, 300, 900, and 1,800 mg/kg BW, followed by liver and immune cell analyses. The results showed a lower CD8+ T-cell population in extract-treated groups (17.53±1.13%-19.79±1.51%) compared with the DMBA group (20.92±4.74%). Conversely, NK+ cell populations increased after extract treatment (0.33±0.01%-0.56±0.13%) compared with DMBA alone (0.27±0.02%). Liver histopathology indicated that extract combination administration did not cause more severe damage than that observed in the DMBA group. An extract combination of meniran and turmeric could modulate the immune system, particularly NK and CD8 cells, in mice injected with DMBA. In addition, the study indicated that the combination of meniran and turmeric extract might play a role as an antihepatotoxic agent. This research could serve as a consideration for future studies developing a combination formulation of meniran and turmeric.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate how biotechnology education focuses on learning implementation, student activities, Science Process Skills (SPS), field constraints, student responses, and to identify future research directions. The study employs descriptive quantitative research involving students at the junior high school Unesa. The data is gathered through observation, test and questionnaire. The data are analysed descriptively. Based on what the observer thought, the data showed that learning went very well. It's mostly made up of talking between students and teachers, like asking questions and having conversations. At most, problem-solving and data collection skills were learned, but things like media, classroom, and time management were not. Student responses were positive to the SETS model, but their understanding of scientific work and evaluation questions needed to be improved. These potentially affect the priority research agenda, which focuses on technology integration, teacher training, contextual learning, interdisciplinary approaches, and the integrated biotechnology of SETS. The study concludes that SETS model learning was carried out very well and received a positive response from students, with active interaction between students and teachers, especially in verbal interaction and SPS, such as formulating problems and data collecting.

Abstract

The current challenge is requiring teachers to be able to implement authentic assessments that support in-depth learning. One of the tools in this implementation is assessment. The problem is that the partner, the MGMP Science Teachers of MTs in Tuban Regency, is not yet accustomed to implementing authentic assessments that support in-depth learning and therefore requires training and mentoring. Based on this, training and mentoring are needed to implement assessments that support in-depth learning. Through this activity, it is hoped that partners can improve their skills in implementing authentic assessments that support in-depth learning. The implementation method is divided into four stages, namely preparation, material presentation, training and mentoring, and evaluation. Participants in this PKM activity were 67 MTs science teachers in Tuban Regency. The results of the mentoring and training showed that (1) there was an increase in the PKM participants' understanding regarding authentic assessments based on pre- and post-test scores; (2) the level of skills of the training participants in planning and implementing authentic assessments was still lacking (thus, more intensive mentoring for participants regarding planning and implementing authentic assessments was needed); and (3) the training participants showed a positive response to the PKM activity.

Abstract

Science learning outcomes at UPT SMP Negeri 12 Gresik are still relatively low. This study aims to see the effect of Teams Games Tournament learning to improve students' learning outcomes and social skills. The method used in this study is a pre-experimental One Group Pretest-Posttest Design, where there is only one group without a control group. The data analysis technique used in this study is supported by SPSS software, namely the normality test with the Shapiro-Wilk test, the Paired Sample t-Test if the data is normally distributed and the Wilcoxon test if the data is detected to have an abnormal distribution and the N-Gain test. The results of this study are that Teams Games Tournament Challenge Relay learning is able to improve science learning outcomes and students' social skills at UPT SMP Negeri 12 Gresik.

Abstract

In general, street lights that use solar power are converted to electricity. The conversion of solar heat into electrical energy that causes the street lights to turn on uses the principles of the First Law of Thermodynamics. This article aims to identify the process and challenges in applying the First Law of Thermodynamics to renewable energy technologies, especially in the context of using solar energy for street lighting. The method applied is Literature Review from various journals both at national and international levels. The first law of thermodynamics is related to the creation of renewable energy which is currently the focus of efforts to create sustainable energy. This topic discusses the concept of the first law of thermodynamics, and the mechanism of converting sunlight into electrical energy and then into street lighting. Various challenges are affected in the form of heat management, the use of environmentally unfriendly materials in solar panels, expensive investment costs, energy conversion efficiency. This article reinforces the importance of applying the first law of thermodynamics to the development of renewable energy, and the challenges resolved in its implementation.

Abstract

Science literacy in Indonesia is still low based on PISA results, so learning innovations such as the IBSC model of collaborative inquiry are needed to train students' scientific thinking, communication, and collaboration skills. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing the ecosystem-based Investigation Based Science Collaborative (IBSC) learning model on improving junior high school students' science literacy in food chain and food web material. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, conducted at SMP Negeri 32 Surabaya in class VII-C with 30 students as samples. The instruments included an observation sheet on the implementation of learning, a science literacy test (pretest-posttest), and a student response questionnaire. Data analysis used the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Wilcoxon test, N-gain, and descriptive analysis. The results showed that the implementation of IBSC learning was very good, with a percentage of 95.63% in the first meeting and 97.22% in the second meeting. Students' science literacy increased significantly (sig. <0.001), with an average N-gain score of 0.72 (high category), where 68% of students reached the high category and 32% reached the medium category. Improvements were seen in the indicators of explaining scientific phenomena (N-gain 0.69), developing investigation plans (N-gain 0.83), and interpreting data/evidence (N-gain 0.73). Students' responses to active and collaborative learning were highly positive (>85%). In conclusion, the ecosystem-based IBSC model effectively improves students' science literacy through an investigative and collaborative approach, which is applied to the development of meaningful and contextual science learning. This study recommends the sustainability of the IBSC model with a focus on data analysis and expansion of research subjects.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) assisted by Pear Deck on students' critical thinking skills, as well as the learning implementation process and student responses. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with a one-group pretest posttest design. The subjects of the study were students of class VII-B SMP Negeri 4 Surabaya in the 2025/2026 academic year. The instruments used were learning implementation observation sheets, critical thinking skills tests, and student response questionnaires. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, tests, and questionnaires, then analyzed using N-gain calculations to see the increase in critical thinking skills, average analysis on the Guttman scale, and mode analysis on the Likert scale. The results showed that learning with the PBL model was implemented very well with a percentage of 100%. Students' critical thinking skills increased with an average N-gain value of 0.77 which is included in the high category. In addition, students gave a positive response to the PBL model assisted by pear deck. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Pear Deck can improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low critical thinking skills of students and learning is still dominated by conventional learning. The purpose of this study is to describe the critical thinking skills of students before and after the implementation of guided inquiry with Baamboozle media on the topic of additives. The study used a one-group pretest-posttest design conducted in one of the State Junior High Schools in Surabaya City with 30 eighth-grade students as subjects. The data collection technique in this study used a test. The research instrument consisted of a test sheet to measure critical thinking skills. The data obtained were analyzed using N-Gain, normality test, paired t-test, and descriptive analysis based on the mode value. The results of the study showed an increase in critical thinking skills with an N-Gain value of 0.58 in the moderate category. Based on this explanation, students' critical thinking skills can be improved by implementing a guided inquiry model with Baamboozle media, especially on the topic of additives.

Abstract

Tradisi “Kuras Sumur Gede” di Desa Sobontoro, Tuban, merupakan praktik kearifan lokal yang diwariskan untuk menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem dan konservasi air. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis relevansi tradisi ini di tengah modernisasi dan perubahan lingkungan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam dan studi literatur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa “Kuras Sumur Gede” tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai ritual pembersihan sumur, tetapi juga mengandung nilai filosofis, sosial, dan spiritual yang mendalam. Tradisi ini efektif dalam menjaga kualitas air dan mempererat solidaritas masyarakat. Kesimpulannya, “Kuras Sumur Gede” adalah model adaptif pelestarian lingkungan yang relevan untuk menjamin ketersediaan air di Desa Sobontoro. Implikasi penelitian ini adalah perlunya integrasi tradisi dengan inovasi modern untuk meningkatkan kesadaran generasi muda dan memperluas dampak konservasi.
