Abstract

The background of this research is that there are so many moral cases becoming viral in social media, it indicates moral degradation in our beloved country especially for adolescense. For example we can see video about elementary school student who scolded his teacher, the sudent of senior high school who told rudely to the police and sexual harrassment of the students. The pheomenon necessitates better  education, especially character building. This will be the most appropriate if it is started at an early age (under 6 years old), so that could be the initial foundation for their behaviour in the future. A child’s life can not be separated from science and technology, creativity and social activity. Thus, it is relevant to implement character education which is in line with Islamic perspective in science-related materials. This research is a qualitative descriptive literature. Authors searched the various works in form of books, journals and articles. After conducting a literature study from various books, journals and articles. It was found that the character education could be formed when applied at an early age. If the character education begins at an early age, it is expected to produce generations who have qualified character so they will be able to contibute their nation become great and stong  nation and can involve  the world. Learning science can be used to develop the ability of coqnitive, psychomotor and affective. In other words, science can be used as a medium to develop the character at an early age. Kata Kunci: pendidikan karakter, pendidikan karakter untuk anak usia dini, pengembangan materi sains

Abstract

This study aims to examine the transformation of students' attitudes towards Islamic wasathiyyah values and ecological awareness from an eco-theological perspective, emphasizing a scientific approach in the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FTIK) at UIN Salatiga. The background of this study is based on the increasing global challenges such as religious intolerance and environmental degradation, which demand an integrative response from Islamic education. Through a scientific approach, Islamic values are integrated with the principles of social sciences, pedagogy, and environmental sustainability to form moderate, inclusive, critical, participatory, and ecologically responsible attitudes. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing triangulation techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and analysis of curriculum documents and RPS to collect data systematically. The study's results indicate a shift in students' attitudes, from a normative understanding to more environmentally conscious and socially just practices. However, challenges remain, such as weak religious-based ecological literacy, suboptimal integration of cross-curricular values, and minimal responsive faculty policies. These findings indicate great potential in developing a thematic curriculum based on wasathiyyah values and an interdisciplinary approach. The conclusion emphasizes the need for curriculum reform, increasing the capacity of educators and teaching staff, as well as strengthening an academic culture based on research and values, to sustainably and scientifically internalize the values of wasathiyyah and eco-theology.

Abstract

Digital literacy is critical in supporting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) by providing access to information, raising awareness, and encouraging engagement with environmental, social, and economic issues through technology. As part of 21st-century skills, digital literacy empowers educators and learners to utilize digital platforms for interactive and practical learning while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity to address sustainability challenges. Digital literacy also supports innovation in sustainable practices such as renewable energy, precision agriculture, and responsible resource management. This study aims to analyze the digital literacy needs of prospective science teacher students in order to strengthen their capacity to integrate technology into ESD-oriented learning. The study employed a quantitative descriptive survey design, utilizing the Rasch Rating Scale Model, to systematically analyze students' digital literacy competence. A total of 140 second-semester students from two universities completed a 20-item closed-ended questionnaire on a 4-point scale. The results indicated deficiencies in several areas, including information retrieval, scientific writing, participation in digital platforms, collaboration, and digital ethics, often due to the lack of supportive learning models and limited opportunities for real-life application. The findings contribute to science education by providing empirical evidence on specific digital literacy gaps, informing the design of instructional models, training programs, and curriculum innovations to enhance digital literacy for ESD in science education.

Abstract

The integration of spiritual values and Computational Thinking (CT) in science learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah remains limited and has not been systematically addressed. This study aims to develop the SCT Tree Model, an innovative instructional model that integrates spirituality with CT in science learning, and to examine its effectiveness on students’ learning outcomes at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. This study employed a mixed-methods approach with a sequential exploratory design, involving six experts, 241 teachers, and 188 students across Central Java, Indonesia. The model was validated by experts and practitioners, showing a valid category (Aiken’s V = 0.81–0.93). A pilot test indicated an increase in average scores from 79 to 94 (+15 points), while a large-scale trial demonstrated an increase from 72 to 90 (+18 points). Experimental testing across three regions confirmed that the SCT Tree Model contributed 84.5% to students’ science learning outcomes, with significant differences compared to conventional instruction. The novelty of this research lies in the systematic integration of spiritual values and CT through seven contextually based tree syntaxes. Practically, the model offers a concrete solution for Madrasah Ibtidaiyah teachers to implement holistic science learning that aligns with national curriculum policies and 21st-century educational demands.
