Abstract

This study evidences that psychological construct in terms of narcissistic behavior through an excessive use of social media will not boost entrepreneurs to learn from past failure experiences in business. By considering excessive narcissism through social media as a personality disorder, this study examines it as a possible cause of entrepreneurial failure. The study uses data from two sets of questionnaire with one hundred and fifty failed entrepreneurs. Analysis is quantitatively undertaken with Structural Equation Modelling/SEM and is supported by the result of Narcissistic Personality Inventory-16/NPI-16 questionnaire which reflects the degree of respondents’ narcissistic behavior. The study infers that the greater narcissistic behavior entrepreneurs has, even with the presence of entrepreneurial learning from the past failures, may lead entrepreneurs to experience subsequent failure. Stubbornness and hypocrisy are two reasons behind this. Therefore, entrepreneurs should be aware of their negative character-personality and psychological aspects when performing entrepreneurial processes.

Abstract

Research Aims - This paper aims at discussing the existence of knowledge inertia and its influence to the product innovation, with particular analysis given to the coffee production during the preharvest and post-harvest periods. Design/methodology/approach - The study uses quantitative methodology, and operates multiple and partial regression analysis between variables of the study to measure the impact of knowledge inertia to the innovation of coffee production. To put the findings in detail, the study separates the innovation of coffee product in two sequences, named [a] pre-harvest period and, [b] post-harvest period. Data and information were collected based on cross-sectional cohort data. Samples were 125 members of one coffee cooperative in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Research Findings - It is found in the study that during the pre-harvest period, learning inertia and procedural inertia brought no significant influence to the innovation of coffee production whilst experience inertia significantly influences the innovation of coffee production during this period. In the post-harvest period, learning inertia significantly influences the innovation of coffee production. Meanwhile, procedural inertia and experience inertia have no significant influence to the innovation of coffee product during the post-harvest period of coffee production. Theoretical Contribution/Originality - The originality and value of this study lie to its design and findings which focuses on the dimension of knowledge inertia in detail, in which a specific product with the sequence of its production was used as the focus. Managerial Implication in the South East Asian context - Findings and discussion of this study contribute to the direction of how the management can be structured to respond to the challenge that is related to the willingness to acquire knowledge for innovation in a bigger degree depends on the willingness of people to acquire new knowledges. Therefore, the management field should be able to deliver a new method and a new insight about how to increase the willingness of people to learn and to get new experience and knowledge as the major basis for innovation. Research limitation & implications - This study only discussed one particular context (a cooperative in West Sumatra, Indonesia), so it would be worth to expand the topics into a more broaden context which involves more samples, broader spatial coverage and more commodities. This will give us more understanding and generalization regarding the topic of this study.

Abstract

The waste management issue in the city of Padang, particularly the increasing accumulation of household waste, with the predominant composition being food waste, is the primary focus of this research. The research aims to investigate the policies and strategies implemented by the Padang municipal government in managing household food waste. The research method employed is qualitative, involving data collection through interviews, observations, and direct documentation. The research results indicate that the management of household food waste is still integrated within the broader framework of urban waste management. The absence of specific governance for household food waste results in a significant increase in the amount of food waste being disposed of directly in the Final Disposal Site (TPA). The study concludes that: 1) the management of household food waste is intertwined with urban waste management; 2) Specifically, the Padang city government has not yet implemented a program for managing household food waste; 3) The absence of governance for household food waste leads to a high volume of food waste being directly disposed of in the TPA; 4) Specifically, there is currently no program related to food waste reduction.

Abstract

Over the years, the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Knowledge-Based View (KBV) have solidified their roles as pivotal paradigms in strategic management literature. With an emphasis on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), this study uses text analysis and Microsoft Power BI to explore these concepts innovatively. The study implements a systematic literature review, extracting data from Scopus, Web of Science, and DOAJ databases to assemble a comprehensive literature corpus. The methodology incorporates text analysis to draw out key themes, relationships, and trends, and these are subsequently visualized using Power BI to create an engaging, interactive representation of data. Components like word clouds, co-occurrence networks, and trend lines are generated, while Power BI's dynamic filtering and drill-down functionalities facilitate thorough data investigation. The results display significant overlap between RBV and KBV, denoting possible integration junctures for these theories within the domain of strategic management. Additionally, the study underscores the relevance of these insights for SMEs, emphasizing the part played by unique resources, encompassing knowledge assets, in catalyzing innovation and fostering a competitive edge. The study concludes by recognizing the significant theoretical and practical implications of integrating text analysis and Power BI in conducting literature reviews. This methodology bolsters our understanding of RBV and KBV, offering small and medium-sized enterprises a beneficial instrument to traverse these intricate theories. The study suggests that future research could broaden the application of this methodological approach to encompass other strategic management theories.
