Abstract

Physical exercise is important in preventing and adjunctive therapy certain diseases. However, over physical exercise for beginners may cause oxidative stress and muscle injury leads to generatechemoattractants whic enables to attract neutrophil and monocyte towards the injury and stimulatesleucocytes activation. The use of antioxidant-rich fruits to mitigate exercise induced oxidative stresshas been applied. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of guava juice (Psidium guajavaL) consumption during aerobic exercise on leucocytes, neutrophils and superoxydes dismutase(SOD) level of beginners. Sixteen students of National Land College (Sekolah Tinggi PertanahanNasional/STPN), Yogyakarta who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were involved in thisstudy. Subjects were divided into two groups i.e. a group given mineral water as control andanother group given 240 mL guava juice 0.67 g/mL daily for 27 days as treatment group. Bothgroups then underwent aerobic exercise for 30 minutes every day for 27 days. Blood samples weretaken before and after exercise on day 1, 7 and 14 for leucocyte and nutrophil count as well as SODanalysis. The leucocyte count and SOD level before and after exercise in both Guava juice andMineral water groups were not significantly different (p>0.05). However, the percentage of neutrophilon day 1 and 7 were significantly higher than that in Mineral water group (p<0.05). Moreover, during the exercise, the percentage of neutrophils in Guava juice group significantly increased(p<0.05), whereas in Mineral water group was not significantly different (p>0.05). It can beconcluded that consuming guava juice during exercise for the beginners does not influence leucocytecount and SOD levels. However, it can increase percentage of neutrophil.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease defines as a disease related to heart and blood vessel. One of high risk in the disease of cardiovascular is its on people with obesity. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) indicator is an important sign to identify cardiovascular risk and provide early information related to change of heart autonomy controlling. This indicator was influenced by several factors such as cupping therapy. Study found that HRV increased after cupping therapy by wet cupping treatment in healthy people. The aims of this research is to investigate the influence of dry cupping toward increased HRV in male obesity adolescence. The study was experimental with pre-post test design by using consecutive sampling of 30 male adolescence aged 18-24 years old with BMI  25 kg/m2. They were divided into 2 groups, control and intervention group with cupping therapy. Data result used in SDDN and RMSSD level. Analysis Data were used paired and independent t test. The result showed SDNN and RMMSD level before intervention were 73,95 ms dan 67,11 ms. Whereas SDNN and RMMSD level after intervention were 69,66 ms dan 61,95 ms. In paired (p=0,52 and p=0,38) and independent t test (p=0,30 and p=0,56) showed that there were no significant difference between SDNN and RMSSD in intervention group and control group (p>0,05). The conclusion of this study is dry cupping had no effects toward increased HRV level in male obesity adolescence.

Abstract

Athletes tend move with a higher intensity and longer than a normal healthy human being. High intensity exercise coupled with high environmental temperature leads to an increase in body temperature and increased risk of dehydration. Given that the negative impact of dehydration on cardiac function and termoregulatori at practice, then the fluid intake and hydration status were closely related to the stability of the heart to maintain the performance. The study was carried out in 4 months. It was  an observational study with a longitudinal cohort design. The total subjects  in this study were 131 teenage footballers. Statistical testing using multiple regression analysis. The study showed that fluid intake and hydration status, and change in  body weight of the subjects before and after exercise provided significant effect on systolic blood pressure (P<0.05). Every increased in fluid intake and changes in body weight lowers blood pressure by 0.408 systolic mmHg, and increased in fluid intake and changes in percent body weight increase in blood pressure of 2.762 mmHg. The study concluded that intake of fluids as dehydration status protects athletes due to fluid loss. It was  because the activities becomes an important key to re-establish the systolic blood pressure. The more frequent training, the more increasingly athletes being exposed to dehydration, so that the systolic blood pressure  would continue to increase. It was recommended that rehydration for athletes - who experienced a weight loss of more than 2% - should be done immediately after exercise, asuming that 1 kg of body weigth loss could be replaced by at least 1 litter of fluid.

Abstract

The increase of energy need during physical exercise of aerobics will increase the need of oxygen, and therefore it can cause free radicals increase. Naturally, endogenous antioxidants can overcome the increase of free radicals. However, if the antioxidants formation which is not comparable with the occurrence of free radicals will cause the occurrence of oxidative stress. So it requiered antioxidants from the outside to take care of it. This research aims to study differences in oxidative stress between groups that consume dates syrup and groups that does not consume date syrup during acute aerobic exercise for untrained men through the lipid peroxide concentration with plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) indicators. This research design is experimental research, non-randomized pre-post test control group design. The subjects divided into two groups namely the group of dates syrup and the group of fresh water. Both group were given treatment of acute aerobic exercise with medium intensity every 2 days for 28 days. Blood samples taken before the aerobic exercise, after the 1st, 7th, and 14th aerobic exercise, and then were checked its plasma MDA levels. Data analysis was done with independent t-test. Analysis of plasma MDA levels t-test showed that there was no difference between the group of dates syrup and the group of fresh water. Plasma MDA levels of the group consuming dates syrup was not much different compared to the group not consuming dates syrup during aerobic exercise with medium intensity for untrained men. Keywords: acute aerobic exercise, untrained men, dates syrup, plasma MDA
