Abstract

Kata kunci : Efektivitas; Ekstraksi ; Sesbania grandiflora Pers; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Staphylococcus aureus.ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine the effectiveness of the ethanol extract of Turi (Sesbania grandiflora (L.) Pers.) leaves on the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The design of this research was a laboratory experiment with effectiveness testing using the disc diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer test). The results of the ethanol extract of Turi (Sesbania grandiflora (L.) Pers.) leaves are extracts weighing about 30.6 g, yield 6.12%, in the form of concentrated extracts, blackish brown in color, characteristic odor (not stinging) and bitter taste. Phytochemical screening showed the presence of saponins and tannins. The effectiveness on the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus during the incubation period of 1 x 24 hours showed that the higher the concentration of the tested extract, the larger the inhibition zone produced. In conclusion, the ethanol extract of Turi leaves (Sesbania grandiflora (L.) Pers.) was effective in inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The best effectiveness was at a concentration of 1.5% w/v (oneway ANOVA, α = 0.05), but the potency was still less strong (inadequate) than the positive control. Keywords : Effectiveness; Extraction; Sesbania grandiflora Pers; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Staphylococcus aureus.
