Abstract

The development of digital technology has opened new opportunities in developing literary learning models, particularly through the utilization of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). This study aims to examine the transformation of Indonesian literature learning through the integration of VR and AR technologies. Using a qualitative approach and library research methods, this study analyzes various literature sources that discuss technology-based learning innovations and their implications for improving literary literacy. The study results indicate that virtual reality technology allows students to "enter" the world of literary texts, such as exploring story settings or interacting with characters visually and sensorily, thereby strengthening imagination and contextual understanding. Meanwhile, augmented reality can be used to enrich printed texts with digital elements such as animations, videos, or audio narratives that appear through device scanning, thereby increasing students' reading interest and engagement. This transformation brings about a paradigm shift in literature teaching from conventional narrative-based approaches to multimodal approaches that have emotional and cognitive impacts. These findings confirm that VR and AR not only enhance interactivity in literary learning but also open new spaces for developing creativity, empathy, and aesthetic appreciation of Indonesian literary works among students. This study recommends curriculum development and educator training to optimize the use of impactful technology in literature learning in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the integration of aesthetic and ethical elements in Islamic children's stories as part of children's literature that promotes Islamic religious values. Islamic children's stories serve not only as a medium of entertainment but also as a means of instilling character and spirituality from an early age. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with content analysis of selected stories texts, namely 9 out of 30 Dongeng Sebelum Tidur untuk Anak Muslim (Bedtime Stories for Muslim Children) by Kidh Hidayat and MB. Rahimsyah. The analysis focuses on aesthetic aspects such as narrative structure and style of language as well as Islamic ethical aspects such as moral values of honesty, empathy, and responsibility. The results of the study indicate that the stories present an aesthetically pleasing narrative with communicative language, effectively capturing children's attention while facilitating understanding of the moral messages. Islamic ethical values are implicitly embedded in the plot and characters, making them an effective medium for character education. This study recommends the utilization of Islamic stories as religious literacy materials to support values-based learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

The integration of local wisdom into elementary IPAS (science and social studies) learning remains limited, resulting in less contextual instruction and weaker support for character development. This study examined the effectiveness of Local Wisdom–Based IPAS teaching materials in improving fourth-grade students’ conceptual understanding and character. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted with 30 students. Data were collected through conceptual understanding tests and character assessment instruments. Results showed a significant improvement in learning outcomes, with mean scores increasing from 74.33 to 81.30 (p < 0.05) and a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.29). Shapiro–Wilk tests confirmed normal data distribution (pretest p = 0.150; posttest p = 0.081). The findings indicate that activating prior knowledge rooted in local wisdom, supported by culturally responsive and multimodal learning approaches, promotes meaningful learning. This study provides empirical evidence that local wisdom–based materials enhance both academic achievement and character development in elementary education.

Abstract

Different characteristics between men and women in solving problems in their life become the background of this study. Men are guided by logic in solving the problems. On the other hand, women are guided by feelings, rely on communication, or have a communicative attitude to get other people's responses and find solutions through actions that can decrease hurt feelings. The study aims are to investigate the lives of women from various cases such as discrimination, natural exploitation, and gender stereotypes. The objects of this study are Indonesian contemporary short stories published in Kompas from 2010 until 2015. The technique of collecting data through selective stages includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification. Dealing with a large number of data sources, only the most adequate and relevant data are analyzed. The results of this study indicate that women in the stories not only tell about the role of women in general but also emphasizes morality. Women as the characters who are categorized as gentle, loving, and caring can be antagonistic figures caused by the treatment of others (men). Meanwhile, denial from women as a form of resistance to something that dangerous to express what has become the right.

Abstract

The integration of local wisdom and digital technology in learning is increasingly important to support meaningful and creativity-oriented education. This study examined the need to develop an Augmented Reality (AR)-based picture storybook integrating Majalengka local wisdom for elementary school students. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed involving five teachers and ten fifth-grade students at SDN Cieurih, Majalengka. Data were collected through interviews and classroom observations and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings revealed that teachers and students expressed the need for interactive learning materials that integrate Majalengka local wisdom, including local folktales, traditions, arts, traditional games, and environmental values. Participants perceived that AR technology could provide engaging visualizations, increase learning interest, and support activities related to idea generation, exploration, storytelling, and problem-solving. The findings also identified several implementation challenges, including limited devices, unstable internet connectivity, and teacher readiness. Overall, the findings suggest that an AR-based picture storybook may be a relevant learning medium to support students’ creative thinking and culturally contextualized learning experiences. As a preliminary needs analysis, this study did not develop or test the proposed AR-based storybook and did not measure its effectiveness in improving students’ creative thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of heroic narratives in two movies adaptations of Greek mythology, Clash of the Titans (2010) and Wrath of the Titans (2012), through a comparative literature approach and Vladimir Propp's narratology. The main character Perseus is the center of attention in the study of narrative structure because of his role as a mythological hero who faces a series of challenges that are full of values of courage, sacrifice, and determination. Propp's theory is used to identify narrative functions such as dispatch, magical agent, struggle, and transfiguration that appear in both movies. The method used is qualitative with content analysis technique by comparing the stories, characters, and moral messages as well as narrative functions in the two movies with the theme of Greek mythology. The results show that the comparison of the narrative structure of the two movies with the character Perseus has strengths in the dramatic aspects of heroic attitudes in accepting choices and fighting for life so that the integration of heroic material can be adapted to literature learning involving character values. This finding confirms that the narratological approach through comparative literature can be an important pedagogical tool to teach story structures with character values through popular media. This research recommends the utilization of mythological movies in literature learning and character education at various levels of education as a means of strengthening narrative literacy and understanding moral values.

Abstract

This study aims to develop, test the feasibility, measure the practicality, and examine the effectiveness of a PBL-based interactive storybook entitled “Misteri Bola Kertas” in improving students’ reading comprehension skills as measured by Barrett’s Taxonomy. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) and a mixed-methods design. Data were collected from 26 third-grade students using reading comprehension tests, expert validation questionnaires, and user response questionnaires, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, N-gain scores, and paired-sample t-tests. The results reveal a significant improvement in students’ mean scores from 67.81 to 83.65 (N-gain = 0.56, moderate category; p < 0.001). This improvement was supported by expert validation of 81.53% (feasible), student responses of 93.75%, and teacher responses of 88.5% (both categorized as very practical). Although the learning media addresses all five levels of Barrett’s Taxonomy, it places particular emphasis on higher-order comprehension skills, specifically reorganization, inferential, and evaluative comprehension, which were identified as the most critical areas of student difficulty. These higher-order thinking processes are facilitated through interactive physical features, including pull-tab mechanisms that support information sequencing, flip-the-flap prompts that encourage synthesis of implicit narrative cues, and Velcro-based activities that engage students in kinesthetic evaluation of moral decisions, each operationalizing a distinct level of Barrett’s Taxonomy. These findings contribute to the literature by demonstrating that the structural integration of PBL phases into physical interactive print media constitutes an effective pedagogical approach. The study also offers practical implications for the development of technology-independent instructional media suitable for elementary education contexts in Indonesia.

Abstract

Various methods of translation support a writer in mastering the structure, form, and meaning that exist in variety works both in printed (text) and electronic (online). In translating a sentence, a writer can use several methods. The use of a method can affect the meaning of the source language. Through translation, the readers in general can distinguish texts between the original and translated texts, understand the origin of the works in the source language, for example, the work of Indonesian language which translated from English, or vice versa. The existing translation methods are divided into seven categories namely, borrowing, calque; literal; transposition / shifted; modulation; equivalent; and adaptation. The result of this research shows that there are three methods which used by the author in translating the novel written by Ernest Hemingway entitled The Old Man and the Sea which is transtlated into Lelaki Tua dan Laut. The methods are literal, equivalent, and borrowing.
