Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the effect of Cooperative learning techniques and personality types on English essay writing skill. This study was conducted at STIBA – IEC Jakarta for the fourth semester in the academic year 2016/2017. It was an experimental study with the factorial design 2 x 2 at 0.05 significance level. The sample was 32 students and divided into two groups which each group was 16 students. The research reveals that: (1) students’ English essay writing skill taught with Think-Pair-Share (TPS) technique was  higher than with Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) technique; (2) English essay writing skill on introvert personality type was higher than extrovert personality types; (3) there was interaction effect between learning techniques and personality type toward English essay writing skill; and (4) students with introvert type taught with TPS technique was higher than those taught with STAD technique. There is an interaction effect between learning techniques and personality types on English essay writing skills. Abstract

This research and development aims to develop a contextual-based learning module for academic writing course to develop the students’ writing skill. It adopts Borg Gall’s model modified from Jolly and Bolitho’s model of development steps. The development steps include: assessing the teaching materials currently implemented, designing and developing the module, judging module feasibility by experts, and testing module effectiveness. It applies mixed method approach to describe textual data qualitatively and analyze numerical data using t-test. The data were obtained from need analysis through document analysis, interview, observation, survey, and experiment. The analysis found that the lecturers and students need appropriate, practical and effective teaching materials that meet their needs. Therefore, the module of writing teaching material is developed by integrating the seven components of contextual approach in various learning activities. Th epracticality test suggests that the module is very pratical. The feasibility test 82.27 in average confirming that the module is very feasible to develop. The effectiveness test found that it is very effective reflected in the posttest mean score of experimental class (78.10) that is significally different from the control class (69.80). The tests of practicality, feasibility, and effectiveness come into conclusion that the developed module can be implemented in the academic writing class. As suggesstion, the lecturers and researchers are recommended to develop comprehensively teaching materials aligning with the students’ needs.Keywords: model, contextual-based, academic writing, module, research and development

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find the needs of task-based model syllabus for Arabic language learning in Nursing Academy at As-Syafi'yah Islamic University in Jakarta. Currently, most of the specific language syllabus does not fulfil the student needs and its content that is the language used is very general and did not really based on the needs of students. The study analyses the student needs using descriptive analysis method. While the data will be collected from document, questionnaire, and interview. Then, the data analysed will be validated by expert of qualitative technique. There are three steps of process will go through, namely data reduction, data display, and taking conclusion. The result of study shows that task-based model of Arabic nursing sylabus which is refered to Indonesia's national qualification framework is proper and decent to be used as the guidance of Arabic teaching and learning process at Nursing Academy of As-Syafi'yah Islamic University Jakarta.

Abstract

This research aims at analyzing the students’ and lecturers’ needs and characteristics and creating the learning materials containing aizuchi skills to effectively speak the basic Japanese language greatly required by the first semester students at the Japanese literature Study. This research and development study employed Kemp Model and was conducted on the Speaking Basic Japanese Language 2 class. The research was conducted by collecting questionnaires from 24 students and analyzing the students’ and lecturers’ characteristics and needs in speaking the basic Japanese language using the Guttman scale. To create more appropriate leaning materials, a reliability test was conducted using the Likert scale, while an effectiveness test was also conducted on the in-pair speaking videos made in both small and big groups, each with the duration of three minutes to be analyzed later using the quantitative data. The result of research on the learning materials for the corresponding skills was organized based on the students’ and lecturers’ characteristics and needs analysis and produces the students’ and lecturers’ needs and students’ characteristics which are one of the elements in making development model of learning materials of responding skill in Speaking Basic  greatly required by the students to speak communicatively and naturally.

Abstract

Pendidikan nilai antikorupsi sebagai bagian dari pendidikan karakter. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan dan mendapat pemahaman yang mendalam tentang nilai antikorupsi berdasarkan kajian semiotika yang terkandung dalam buku cerita bergambar “Peternakan Kakek Tulus dan Byur!” terbitan KPK. Buku cerita bergambar “Peternakan Kakek Tulus dan Byur!” merupakan buku cerita bergambar yang ditulis dan dipublikasi untuk dijadikan sebagai bahan ajar maupun media dalam menanamkan pendidikan nilai antikorupsi di Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang digunakan berupa resensi-resensi yang berkaitan tentang nilai antikorupsi dalam buku cerita bergambar “Peternakan Kakek Tulus dan Byur!” terbitan KPK. Hasil penelitian ditemukan 18 leksia, 8 nilai antikorupsi; (1) kerja keras, (2) adil, (3) peduli, (4) jujur, (5) berani, (6) displin, (7) sederhana, dan (8) tanggung jawab, serta lima kode pembacaan yaitu, (1) kode teka-teki, (2) kode konotatif, (3) kode simbolis, (4) kode aksian, dan (5) kode kultural atau budaya. Dari hasil penelitian dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa dua buku cerita bergambar terbitan KPK mengandung nilai antikorupsi berdasarkan leksia-leksia yang ditinjau melalui kode pembacaan Barthes dan tidak ditemukan satu nilai antikorupsi yaitu nilai mandiri.

Abstract

Different characteristics between men and women in solving problems in their life become the background of this study. Men are guided by logic in solving the problems. On the other hand, women are guided by feelings, rely on communication, or have a communicative attitude to get other people's responses and find solutions through actions that can decrease hurt feelings. The study aims are to investigate the lives of women from various cases such as discrimination, natural exploitation, and gender stereotypes.The objects of this study are Indonesian contemporary short stories published in Kompas from 2010 until 2015. The technique of collecting data through selective stages includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification. Dealing with a large number of data sources, only the most adequate and relevant data are analyzed. The results of this study indicate that women in the stories not only tell about the role of women in general but also emphasizes morality. Women as the characters who are categorized as gentle, loving, and caring can be antagonistic figures caused by the treatment of others (men). Meanwhile, denial from women as a form of resistance to something that dangerous to express what has become the right.Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi bahwa perempuan memiliki karakteristik yang berbeda dengan laki-laki dalam menghadapi berbagai problematika kehidupan. Laki-laki dipandu oleh logika dalam memecahkan persoalan. Sementara itu, perempuan lebih dipandu oleh perasaan, mengandalkan komunikasi atau memiliki sikap komunikatif untuk memperoleh respons orang lain. Tujuan penelitian ialah mengungkap kehidupan perempuan-perempuan dari berbagai kasus seperti diskriminasi, eksploitasi alam, dan stereotip gender. Objek penelitian ialah cerpen-cerpen kontemporer Indonesia Kompas kurun waktu 2010-2015. Teknik pengumpulan data, meliputi: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan simpulan atau verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perempuan dalam cerita tidak hanya menceritakan tentang peran perempuan pada umumnya, tetapi juga menekankan moralitas. Perempuan sebagai karakter yang dikategorikan lembut, penuh kasih, dan peduli bisa menjadi tokoh antagonis yang disebabkan oleh perlakuan orang lain (laki-laki). Sementara itu, penyangkalan dari perempuan sebagai bentuk perlawanan terhadap sesuatu yang berbahaya untuk mengekspresikan apa yang telah menjadi haknya.

Abstract

Purposely contemplating at seventh semester students of English Education Study Progam, it is perceived that students exhibit a lack of skills in use of rhetoric, predominantly making errors in the use of words and phrases, directly translating words from Bahasa Indonesia to English – interlanguage error – and organizing their written text inadequately. Moreover, it is discovered that the viewpoints of the students frequently shift. To address this, this current study aims at investigating students’ macro-level coherence in their academic writing (henceforth; background of the study of a research proposal). A content analysis is applied including documents. Additionally, a descriptive analysis design is used to guide this study. There are six research proposals investigated to gain the data of this study. These proposals are taken purposively sampled from proposals submission from early 2018 intake. There are two main frameworks in this study. Firstly, the academic writing guidance book is used to analyze the rhetoric/organization of the paper. Secondly, the coherence analysis is applied to evaluate students’ coherence level. Analysis of findings shows that students encounter some problems in the coherence of English research proposal writing. Hence, it is argued that close attention should be paid to the refinement and suitable tutoring of coherence in the teaching of academic English writing

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara menganalisis teks recount karangan siswa kelas VIII SMP Islamiyah, Depok, sampel diambil 10 karangan teks recount yang ditulis oleh siswa, tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan jenis kesalahan-kesalahan sintaksis dalam karangan teks recount siswa dan seberapa sering kesalahan itu dibuat. Kesalahan-kesalahan yang ditemukan diidentifikasi dan diklasifikasikan menggunakan kategori taksonomi linguistik dan siasat permukaan Politzer dan A Ramirez. Hasil yang ditemukan kemudian didefinisikan berdasarkan jenis kesalahan sintaksis. Hasil dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membantu mahasiswa dan umum tentang jenis kesalahan yang umum dilakukan siswa dan membantu mereka memutuskan usaha guru untuk menghindari kesalahan tersebut. Dari sepuluh karangan teks recount siswa yang diteliti, ditemukan 141 berdasarkan kategori lingusitik, kesalahan yang paling banyak ditemukan 61 kesalahan penggunaan kata kerja dengan persentase 41%. Ditemukan 131 kesalahan berdasarkan taksonomi siasat permukaan, kesalahan yang paling banyak ditemukan 58 kesalahan struktur. Bentuk kesalahan yang ditemui merupakan kelalain siswa dalam menggunakan kata kerja yang sesuai dengan struktur yang sesuai dengan kaidah bahasa. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan siswa dalam struktur kalimat mengakibatkan kesalahan penggunaan kata kerja yang sesuai. Kata Kunci: Kesalahan Sintaksis, Teks Recount

Abstract

Penerjemahan itu sendiri merupakan suatu cara pengalih bahasaan untuk mengungkapkan makna, pesan, atau amanat yang terkandung dalam bahasa sumber kedalam bahasa sasaran dengan padanan kata yang memiliki makna serupa sesuai dengan maksud penulisnya agar dapat dipahami oleh pembaca. Dimana pengetahuan penerjemahan ini sangat penting terkhususnya dalam menerjemahkan kitab Matn Zubad yang mana bahasa sumbernya yaitu bahasa Arab dan akan dialih bahasakan ke bahasa target yaitu bahasa Indonesia. Berdasarkan analisis tersebut maka penulis pun melasanakan sebuah kegiatan pelatihan penerjemahan kitab Matn Zubad bagi jamaah majlis taklim Rasyidaturrahmah Cijengkol Bekasi. Terbukti dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat berupa pelatihan penerjemahan ini membuat masyarakat lebih memahami pentingnya kegiatan menerjemahkan terkhusus dalam menerjemahkan salah satu kitab fiqh Matn Zubad dimana berisi syariat yang digunakan kegiatan sehari-hari.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to gain empiric data on activites of popular writing using the whole language approach through story board preparation by the college students of Indonesian language education. The research was conducted at educational program of Indonesian literature in popular writing subject. The research used classroom action research. The research adopted Kemmis and taggart model through observation and writing proficiency test. Research analysis was performed using (1) data reduction, (2) data display, (3) conclusion, verification and reflection. The result of the research shows improvement in students popular writing score in every cycle. It can be concluded that the use of whole language method could produce story board in students’ popular writing. Keywords: study populer writing, whole language method, story board Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh data empirik tentang kegiatan menulis populer menggunakan pendekatan whole language dengan pembuatan media story board mahasiswa pendidikan bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini dilakukan di prodi pendidikan bahasa Indonesia, dalam mata kuliah menulis populer, dengan menggunakan metode classroom action research. Desain yang digunakan menggunakan model Kemmis dan Taggart, data dilakukan dengan melakukan observasi dan tes keterampilan menulis. Analisis penelitian dilakukan dengan (1) reduksi data, (2) display data, (3) kesimpulan, verivikasi, dan refleksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan adanya peningkatan nilai kemampuan menulis populer mahasiswa pada setiap siklus. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran menulis dengan menerapkan metode whole language dapat menciptakan story board dalam menulis populer mahasiswa.
