Abstract

Male breast cancer (MBC) is rare yet under-addressed in oncology nursing, especially regarding body image and masculinity. This qualitative study explored how men with breast cancer in Medan, Indonesia, make sense of altered bodies, masculinity, and care needs. We conducted in-depth interviews with 14 adult MBC patients (post-surgery or on systemic therapy) at a tertiary center and community support settings. Data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Three themes emerged: (1) “A scar that questions manhood” (appearance concerns, mastectomy symbolism, sexual self-esteem), (2) “Between pink ribbons and blue identities” (stigma, misgendered spaces, delayed help-seeking), and (3) “What nursing care should look like for men” (gender-sensitive education, partner involvement, symptom self-management). Participants described tension between hegemonic masculinity ideals and survivorship, affecting disclosure, adherence, and quality of life. Findings suggest integrating gender-responsive assessment of body image, tailored education (e.g., tamoxifen adverse-effects counseling), and couple-focused supportive care. Results inform practice and policy, addressing a neglected subpopulation in oncology nursing.

Abstract

Fenomena hubungan tanpa status (HTS) semakin marak dalam dinamika relasi romantis modern. Individu yang memilih hubungan tanpa status sering kali menghadapi dilema antara kebebasan emosional dan ketidakjelasan komitmen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami dan mengeksplorasi pengalaman individu yang menjalani hubungan tanpa status (HTS), khususnya dalam kaitannya dengan kebebasan emosional dan ketidakjelasan komitmen. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan fenomenologi untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman subjektif individu dalam hubungan tanpa status, dengan fokus pada motivasi, dinamika emosional, dan dampak psikososialnya. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan partisipan yang memiliki pengalaman dalam hubungan tanpa status. Analisis tematik menunjukkan bahwa hubungan tanpa status menawarkan fleksibilitas emosional dan kebebasan dari tuntutan hubungan tradisional, tetapi juga menimbulkan ambiguitas dalam komitmen dan ketidakpastian emosional. Implikasi penelitian ini menyoroti perlunya pemahaman lebih lanjut terhadap perubahan pola relasi romantis dalam masyarakat modern.

Abstract

Education plays a crucial role in shaping human development and serves as the foundation for every citizen’s right to quality learning. Within the educational process, learning activities are central, and students’ interest in learning strongly influences academic success. This study aims to identify and measure students’ interest in learning biology at SMK Islam Al Azhar. The research was initiated in response to teachers’ concerns about the difficulty of assessing students’ learning interest, which affects the effectiveness of classroom instruction. A qualitative approach was adopted using three primary techniques: observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Participatory observations were conducted during lessons, followed by teacher interviews to validate the findings. Questionnaires based on established indicators of learning interest were then distributed to students. The results showed that the average questionnaire score among 20 active students was 72%, indicating a moderate level of learning interest. These results were supported by the data obtained from interviews and observations. Overall, the findings suggest that Grade X students at SMK Islam Al Azhar exhibit a moderate level of interest in biology, highlighting the need for innovative teaching strategies to enhance student motivation and engagement in science learning.
