Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with relatively high rates of early marriage compared to others, which indirectly correlates with various issues, including reproductive health. Reproductive health is a crucial aspect of building the quality of future generations. Through community service programs in the form of reproductive health education activities, it is hoped to contribute to enhancing understanding of reproductive health and the age of marriage among adolescents, particularly in the region of Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara. The methods used include the stages of: 1) planning; 2) implementation; and 3) reflection. The education activities involve adolescent boys and girls from Parampuan Village, West Lombok Regency. The results of the community service activities show that participants can understand the importance of reproductive health early on and actively participate in educational activities, as evidenced by attendance rates of over 70%. Participants also responded positively to the educational activities. Thus, community service in the form of reproductive health education can: 1) improve adolescents' understanding of reproductive health; 2) raise awareness among adolescents regarding the ideal age of marriage; and 3) ensure effective implementation of educational activities.

Abstract

During the 7 rounds of PISA, Indonesian students consistently ranked low in scientific literacy assessments. In the last decade, many studies have been carried out by science education researchers in Indonesia in an effort to improve students' scientific literacy. However, this fact is contradictory to the results of the scientific literacy assessment of Indonesian students which still remains low. This can be caused by not many Indonesian science educators who understand the characteristics of scientific literacy. What are the characteristics of scientific literacy in PISA is important to understand so that teachers can apply learning oriented towards the development of scientific literacy in schools and universities. This article aims to describe the characteristics of scientific literacy referring to the PISA science framework in the period 2000-2021. This article was compiled through a literature review. Scientific literacy is defined as the ability of individuals to devote attention to science-related topics and science ideas as a form of individual reflection. A person who is scientifically literate will always devote attention to logical debates regarding science and technology that require competence: 1) explaining phenomena scientifically; 2) evaluate and design scientific investigations; and 3) interpret data and evidence scientifically. Scientific knowledge consist of content, procedural, and epistemic knowledge. The scientific literacy context consist of health and disease, natural resources, environmental quality, hazards and contamination, and the limitations of science and technology. The PISA science attitude aspect consists of a critical attitude of science in decision making and a creative attitude characterized by the ability to propose scientific ideas. In PISA 2021, scientific literacy assessment is not only present as a core domain, but also integrated with mathematical literacy, reading, and creative thinking.

Abstract

Biology as a branch of science is a process and a product. The process referred to here is the process through scientific work, while the products are concepts, principles, principles, theories and laws. Laboratory media is a course that is closely related to these activities. This course is worth 3 credits, with details of 2 credits of face-to-face in class and 1 credit of practicum in the Laboratory. So far, lecturers have never identified all indicators of science process skills that appear during laboratory media practicum activities. Assessment of reports and students' scientific work skills has been carried out, but has not been equipped with relevant assessment instruments, so that the science process skills that students already have have not been properly identified. This study aims to determine students' science process skills in laboratory media courses through demonstration learning methods. This study is a type of pre-experimental research, with a research design using the one-shot case study design. The subjects in this study were students of the Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Applied Sciences, Mandalika University of Education who programmed laboratory media courses in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.
