Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of the implementation of independent learning to improve students' problem-solving abilities. This study refers to qualitative research procedures with a descriptive approach, namely research that aims to provide a quality picture of the subjects and research objects studied. This research was conducted in the Teaching and Education Faculty of HKBP Nommensen University, especially the Mathematics Program. This research was conducted in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The subjects of this study were students of the Mathematics Education Study Program, namely Stambuk 2020, a total of 40 students. The object of this research is the implementation of independent learning in integral calculus courses on the subject of indeterminate integrals. From the results of the study, it was obtained that the problem-solving abilities of students after independent learning were shown by data on each aspect of the data that had increased, the average value increased from 52.34 to 76.74. This shows that there has been an increase in students' problem-solving abilities after implementing independent learning. When viewed from student learning completeness, we can also see that independent learning is also considered effective when student learning completeness exceeds 70% of the total students in the class, where in this study the learning completeness was 77%. Independent learning can help and train students in solving problem solving skills independently. In other words, the habit of exploring ideas independently will be able to develop mathematical problem solving abilities.

Abstract

One of the minimum learning outcomes of the S1 Mathematics Education study program at HKBP Nommensen University in the knowledge aspect is: P2) mastering mathematical concepts and data information needed to solve problems. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the ability to understand concepts and problem-solving abilities on the topic of vectors and scalars. The type of research used in this study is quantitative research using a descriptive approach and the instrument used is a descriptive test. Data analysis uses correlation tests and coefficients of determination. Based on the results of data analysis in the r statistical test, ????ℎi????????????g = 0.7308 is obtained which shows a significant relationship between the ability to understand concepts and problem-solving abilities on the topic of vectors and scalars. The magnitude of the relationship between the ability to understand concepts and problem-solving abilities on the topic of vectors and scalars is 52%. so it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between the ability to understand concepts and problem-solving abilities on the topic of vectors and scalars.

Abstract

Universitas HKBP Nommensen consists of 11 faculties and 33 study programs for undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Students generally come from regencies / cities in North Sumatra province plus from several nearby provinces with different family education backgrounds. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family background and region of origin on the selection of study programs. This type of research is ex-post facto using a quantitative approach. The subjects in this study were students of Universitas HKBP Nommensen Medan. The research instrument used is a questionnaire. The data collected is analyzed based on statistical analysis. The results showed the magnitude of the influence of family educational background on the selection of study programs, it can be seen from the coefficient of determination (r2) of 0.254 which shows that family educational background has an influence on the selection of study programs by 25.4%. Based on the results of the analysis of the data collected, it can be concluded that there is a positive and significant influence of family education background but not with the area of origin of students on the selection of study programs.
