Abstract

Abstract

Phatic Communication or Phatic Communion has started to be widely practiced recently with several theories and forms, especially in relation to Indonesian and English, but in Japanese, it is very limited. Researchers here want to conduct research on phatic communication in relation to the Japanese language. In Japanese, a similar concept to phatic communication has existed for a long time, it is even said that the Japanese language is hyperphatic or a society that is very strong in applying the concept of phatic communication in its daily life, although with a different name, shakou jirei (社交辞令). This research discusses phatic sentences in Japanese conversation found in the film Good Doctor which will be examined regarding their function and relationship in relation to tachiba or the relationship between the speaker and the interlocutor in a conversational situation which according to Haugh and Obana (2016) is divided into 2 relevant classification (1) chi’i 地位(social status) and (2) yakuwari 役割 (role, responsibility). The function of phatic sentences in Japanese was classified according to Jumanto (2014) with 12 functions in English conversation, while in this study the researchers examined phatic sentences that appeared in Japanese conversation in relation to the concept of tachiba in Japanese society. The research regarding phatic communication in Japanese is still very limited, even though it is very often found in the daily conversation, thus considered very interesting to research, especially in relation to the social values that very commonly known in Japanese society. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using the free-involved listening method and note-taking method to analyze the fatic expression in relation to the concept of tachiba in Japanese society.

Abstract

Food security and food logistics preparedness are essential components in strengthening community health resilience in flood-prone areas. Recurrent flooding disrupts food distribution systems and increases the risk of malnutrition and environment-related diseases, highlighting the need for evidence-based disaster preparedness strategies. This study aimed to analyze the influence of individual factors (age, sex, and education level), structural factors (food distribution effectiveness, food logistics preparedness, and policy support), and environmental factors (infrastructure and health facilities) on community health resilience in flood-affected areas. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. Data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to community members and stakeholders, as well as document reviews of disaster management and food distribution reports. Community health resilience was directly influenced by age, sex, education level, and the effectiveness of food distribution. In addition, indirect effects were observed from food logistics preparedness, environmental factors, policy support, and the availability of health facilities. In conclusion, community health resilience in flood-prone areas is shaped by the interaction of individual, structural, and environmental factors. Strengthening food logistics systems and policy support is therefore essential to enhance community health resilience during flood disasters. Keywords: flood-prone areas; community health resilience; food logistics preparedness; food distribution effectiveness; policy support

Abstract

Shallots are one of Indonesia's most important horticultural commodities, however their prices are highly volatile, creating significant financial risks for farmers and traders. This study aims to quantify the price risk of shallot trading in East Java Province and Nganjuk Regency using historical volatility, Value at Risk (VaR), and Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR) based on rolling windows of 10, 20, &40 days. The log-return series were found to be non-normally distributed (Shapiro–Wilk, p<0.05) but stationary (ADF, p<0.05), supporting the use of the historical simulation approach. The results show that Nganjuk exhibits substantially higher price volatility than East Java, particularly over the 10-day rolling window. Consistent with this finding, the 95% VaR indicates that Nganjuk has a higher potential short-term loss than East Java (-0.0133 compared with-0.0065). Furthermore, CVaR provides a more conservative estimate of downside risk, indicating that the expected loss beyond the VaR threshold in Nganjuk is considerably larger than that estimated by VaR alone. These findings demonstrate that combining historical volatility, VaR, &CVaR provides a more comprehensive assessment of extreme price risk than volatility analysis alone, thereby extending the application of quantitative risk measurement to agricultural commodity trading and supporting risk management and policy decisions.

Abstract

Negative perceptions of mathematics persist, largely due to its abstract nature and the limited use of concrete examples in instruction. Integrating cultural elements into learning can provide an alternative approach to support a more contextualized understanding of mathematical concepts. Ethnomathematics serves as a bridge between culture and mathematics within the learning process. This study aims to explore ethnomathematical concepts embedded in traditional food products of Madiun City, namely brem, bluder, and lempeng. A qualitative approach with an ethnographic method was employed. Data were collected through observation, direct measurement of the research objects, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that various mathematical concepts are present in the production and packaging processes of traditional foods. In brem, concepts of the rectangular prism, measurement, and volume were identified. In bluder, concepts of the truncated square pyramid, base area, height, and volume were identified. Meanwhile, in lempeng, the concepts of the rectangular plane figure, the rectangular prism, area, volume, and the size ratio between raw and cooked lempeng of 1:2 were found. These mathematical concepts appear implicitly in the cultural activities of the community, particularly in the production and packaging processes of traditional foods.
