Abstract

Socio-economic background (SEB) is one of the factors that cause bullying in schools. Several studies have shown learning life skills (LS) to deal with these issues. This study aims to examine the impact of SEB on LS in sports and non-sports students. The sample of this study was 109 students (sports students = 57 and non-sports students = 55) with an age range of 19-21 years who were students of the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Sampling was taken by the intake class method—data collection using the LSSS (Life Skills Scale for Sports) instrument. The research is a comparative causal method with test analysis using the Independent Sample T-Test, Kruskal-Wallis Test, and One-way ANOVA. The results of this study show a significant difference between the life skills of sports and non-sports students (F = 0.138, p = 0.031). There is a significant difference between sports and non-sports students' LS based on socio-economic status (lower class, middle class, and upper class), with p = 0.000 for sports students and p = 0.028 for non-sports students. This study reveals that the LS of sports students is higher than non-sports students.

Abstract

Background: Sports values arise because of sports activities. These values have a positive impact on personal development. If physical education at school incorporates sports values, it becomes extremely significant. Research Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of sports values in physical education. Methods: This research employed a quantitative descriptive method and was conducted at a high school in Bandung City. The participants were all school students, totaling 425 students, consisting of 193 male and 232 female students aged 15–17 years. The students completed the questionnaire in approximately 15 minutes. The study used a questionnaire to measure physical education sports values, specifically the Youth Sport Values Questionnaire-2 (YSVQ-2). Data analysis was performed using the SPSS program. We conducted statistical analysis and additional testing to investigate differences in the obtained means. Findings/Results: The research findings highlight a substantial disparity in average scores among sports values, with moral values emerging as the highest. This underscores the pivotal role of physical education in fostering moral development, achieved through active participation in game scenarios and facilitated by appropriate teaching methodologies. However, the successful internalisation of sports values and the holistic development of students extend beyond the confines of the classroom, involving significant contributions from parents and the broader environment. These external factors play a crucial role in shaping students' personalities, both within and outside the school environment. Conclusion: Future research endeavours should focus on designing and implementing structured and systematic sports values programmes to further enhance our understanding and implementation of sports values in physical education. These programmes should provide students with tangible opportunities to objectively observe and engage with sports values, thereby fostering their integration into both educational settings and the wider community.

Abstract

This research explores the influence of motivation on elementary school students' interest in sports. Motivation, as the main trigger of behavior, plays an important role in shaping students' interest in sports activities. By referring to the motivation theory of B.F. Skinner and the concept of self-actualization needs by Abraham Maslow, this research aims to deepen understanding of how motivation, both intrinsic and extrinsic, can shape students' interests. The research method used is a cross-sectional analytical study with a quantitative approach. Data was collected from Grade 4 elementary school students through the distribution of the Self-Motivation Inventory for Students (SIMS) questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistical methods and the Pearson correlation test. The results of the analysis show that the majority of students have varying levels of motivation, with intrinsic motivation dominating. However, variations in extrinsic motivation were also seen, indicating the role of external factors in shaping student interest. These findings illustrate a significant positive relationship between students' level of motivation and their interest in exercise. The discussion includes factors that influence student interest, such as support from parents, peers, and the school environment. Understanding the role of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation provides further insight, and educational context has been shown to play an important role in shaping student motivation and interest. This research makes an important contribution in understanding the relationship between elementary school students' motivation and interest in sports. The proposed suggestions involve developing motivational programs, the role of parents, diversifying sports programs, health education, improving sports facilities, teacher training, and continuous monitoring. It is hoped that the implementation of these suggestions can create an educational environment that supports the development of student health and fitness at the elementary level.

Abstract

Sports and physical education have an essential role in improving morality in adolescents by implementing sports values, especially in overcoming juvenile delinquency and negative behaviour, one of which is bullying. This research seeks to investigate the comparison of sports values in students based on their environment. This study employs a numerical descriptive approach with a comparative survey design conducted in two schools, namely junior high schools and vocational high schools in Bandung Greater, with a total of 1,531 (869 students living in villages and 662 students living in cities) aged 14-17 years. The instrument in this study used the Youth Sport Values Questionnaire-2 (YSVQ-2), with data analysis using the Mann - Whitney U test. The Findings revealed a notable distinction in the Means Ranks value between villages and cities on Youth Sport Values (sig 0.011). The result show that urban areas have higher Youth Sport Values than rural areas. Several factors, including adequate sports facilities and a developing sports culture in the city, can influence this difference. These findings may indicate the importance of increasing access to sports facilities and emphasizing physical education in order to improve moral values and sportsmanship in students. Further research can examine more deeply the dynamics of the formation of sports values in various contexts using different research methods.

Abstract

This article explores the vital role of sportsmanship within the context of sports, focusing on the development of positive values among adolescents and adults. Sportsmanship is not merely about physical competition but also encompasses attitudes and behaviors that reflect fair play. Among adolescents, participation in sports enhances not only physical performance but also fosters character development, responsibility, and the ability to cope with defeat in a resilient manner. Moreover, sportsmanship serves as a foundation for mutual respect and cooperation in social interactions. At the adult level, sportsmanship is essential for creating a positive environment in sports practice. Mutual respect, humility, and a willingness to collaborate form the basis for building an inclusive and supportive sports community. In the adult sphere, sportsmanship also contributes to reducing tensions and conflicts, thus positively influencing the workplace and daily life. Therefore, this article highlights the importance of sportsmanship as a valuable asset for character development and the cultivation of a society grounded in positive values.

Abstract

The correlation between teenagers' sporting ideals and perceived social support from family, friends, and others is examined in this paper. From a stratified random sample, 1,454 teenagers aged 12–18 (50.1% male and 49.9% female) underwent quantitative research using a correlational survey methodology. While the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) evaluated degrees of social support, the Youth Sport Values Questionnaire-2 (YSVQ-2) measured sports values. Using Pearson correlation, data were examined. Sports values and social support had a noteworthy but modest positive connection (r = 0.268, p = 0.001). Among the sources of encouragement, the influence of physical education instructors and coaches was more noticeable than that of family or friends. These findings imply that encouraging good youth development depends on using value-based sports education, particularly via organized programs and motivating adult figures. This study adds to the increasing corpus of research on sports pedagogy and emphasizes how social environments shape teenage ideals using sports.

Abstract

Sports have great potential in shaping the character of teenagers, but in Indonesia, they still focus more on achievement than self-value development. As a result, moral and social values that should be instilled through sports have not been optimally utilized, especially in the face of the value crisis and the increase in juvenile delinquency. This study aims to compare the values that teenagers learn through sports and to see if these values are different for boys and girls. The method used was a quantitative approach with a comparative survey design, involving 1,564 adolescents aged 12–18 years in the Bandung area, consisting of 762 boys and 802 girls. Sampling was carried out using the convenience sampling technique. The instrument used was the Youth Sport Values Questionnaire-2 (YSVQ-2), which measures three dimensions of values: morality, competence, and status. The technical aspects of the research include the preparation of instruments, coordination with schools, direct data collection, and data supervision and checking. The results showed that the total sports score of adolescent boys was 54.5 and girls was 53.4, with a difference of 1.1 points. The significance test yielded a value of 0.10 < 0.05, showing a significant difference between men and women in interpreting sports values. This study aims to compare the values teenagers learn through sports and to see if these values differ for boys and girls.
