Abstract

Abstract

Concerns to children with disabilities in terms of their needs for moving and level of physical activity have not been supported by a teacher supply system that is appropriate for their field of study, namely adaptive physical education teachers. This study is aimed at portraying teachers’ profiles of Adaptive Physical Education in special schools in Indonesia. The data collection was carried out by means of questionnaires and articulated with the descriptive approach. The result of the study reveals that the number of specialist teachers with physical education backgrounds is still meager, which is only around 38 percent, compared to those who graduated from Special Education Program, which more than 60.5 percent. The majority of the teachers have never been given a chance to improve their PE teaching competency in the form of training (86,4 percent). It is recommended that there should be an openness from those working in special schools and the Ministry of Education and Culture of the urgent need for this adaptive physical education teacher.  The statement will encourage the evolve of national urgency and drive all the stakeholders to respond to it institutionally, for instance by opening the program for adaptive physical education or at least to pave the way with initially offering concentration for this adaptive PE under the generic PE program.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic had limited interactions and raised the potential of the increased use of gadgets. Those conditions might increase the prevalence of child speech delays considering the development of a child's speech requires two-way interactions. Speech delay in early childhood itself needs to be a concern for parents and the community because communication is one of the affecting aspects of a child's welfare. One of the components in the community that has a strategic role in reaching parents is the Family Welfare and Empowerment or known as PKK, team. Therefore, this Community Service was aimed to optimize the strategic role of Family Welfare and Empowerment (PKK) in preventing speech delays in early childhood. The activity was carried out in Padalarang District by involving twenty-four PKK team members and one PKK coordinator. The activity was carried out in two stages, including socialization and training. At the socialization stage, participants received exposure to the stages of language development according to age. At the training stage, participants received exposure and did hands-on practices related to the stimulation to improve early childhood language development. At the end of the activity, participants demonstrated an example of simple stimulation that can be given, such as reading aloud for children. The activity went well and was followed enthusiastically by the participants. Based on the interviews, participants gave positive responses. It is hoped that similar activities can be conducted continuously in the future.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the integration of life skills through physical activities programs on the improvement of student life skills. The population of this study was 64 college students in Indonesia divided into two groups (experimental group n = 34 and control group n = 30). The sampling technique used cluster random sampling. The research method used was a quasi-experiment with a pre-test post-test control group design. The instrument used was the life skills scale for sport adaptation (LSSS) which consists of eight components, namely teamwork, goal setting, time management, emotional skills, communication, social skills, leadership, problem-solving, and decision making. The results showed that the physical activity integrated with the life skill program had a more significant impact on the improvement of the student's life skills than the physical activity without the integration of the life skill program. Further findings revealed that the social skill component was the life skill component that gained the highest increase. It shows that the integration of life skill programs in physical activities provides better results than physical activities without the integration of life skills programs.

Restrictions on social activity due to the Covid-19 pandemic had an impact on sedentary behavior. The purpose of this study was to investigate the physical fitness and sedentary behavior of elementary school students. The method of this study used quantitative descriptive research. The sampling technique used in this study was the total sampling. This study involved 89 students (male = 46; female = 43) as the samples. The instrument used in this study was the Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ). The data analysis employed the Microsoft Office Excel 2016 computer program. Based on the results of the research, sedentary behavior of the samples on weekdays (11 hours 45 minutes) and weekends (8 hours 49 minutes) were in the high category. This condition is concerning because it can cause many health problems in children. This research can be a reference for teachers to play a role in cultivating a healthy and active lifestyle. Researchers, for further research, are suggested to expand the size of the sample and update the instrument to gain more comprehensive results.
