Abstract

The research aims to explore the experiences of teachers and students in utilizing the social environment as a learning resource for Social Science (IPS) subjects. Using a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, this study involved eight social studies teachers and sixteen students in grades V-VI from four elementary schools in Manggarai Regency. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation reviews, focusing on understanding the essence of the experiences experienced by participants. The selected schools reflect the diversity of demographic and sociocultural characteristics of the Manggarai region, so the study results are expected to provide a comprehensive picture of social environment-based learning practices. Through semi-structured interviews, the researcher explored the meanings that emerged from the participant's experiences in the context of social studies learning. This research is expected to contribute to developing more effective learning methods by utilizing the social environment as a learning resource and increasing students' understanding of the material taught. The research results will be a reference for developing curriculum and learning strategies in elementary schools.

Abstract

In the face of the rapid development of technology and the increasing demand for efficient energy management, controlling household lights remotely has become an essential feature of modern smart homes. This research aims to develop and test a remote lighting control system using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, based on Arduino, which can be operated via a smartphone application to improve energy efficiency. The method used is an experimental approach with a quantitative design, where the system's functionality is evaluated in real-life settings. The system was tested across different locations, and the results show that it functions well with response times ranging from 1.6 to 3.99 seconds, demonstrating the system's dynamic responsiveness. The system allows users to operate lights remotely, helping reduce energy consumption in households. The implications of this study suggest that the IoT-based lighting control system can significantly contribute to energy savings, increase user convenience, and reduce carbon emissions. The findings also open up possibilities for expanding smart home technologies in resource-constrained environments. Further research is recommended to test the scalability of the system in larger residential settings and to explore its integration with other smart home devices for more comprehensive energy management solutions.

Abstract

This study investigates the conceptual and practical tensions in implementing democratic education within Indonesia’s Pancasila Student Profile (P5) program by recontextualizing John Dewey’s theory of Democracy and Education. The research addresses the core problem of ideological and institutional misalignment between Dewey’s participatory ideals and the hierarchical, norm-driven structures prevalent in Indonesian schools. Employing a qualitative literature-based approach, the study analyzes 43 selected primary and secondary sources published in the past five years using thematic categorization and interpretative analysis across three dimensions: socio-cultural, pedagogical, and institutional. Findings reveal critical gaps between the democratic ideals of student participation and the top-down school culture; between the goals of democratic education and the applied instructional strategies; and between policy ambitions and fragmented implementation. The study contributes theoretically by adapting Dewey’s progressive educational thought to the collectivist, value-oriented context of Pancasila. Practically, it proposes policy recommendations such as teacher capacity development, institutional reform, and participatory learning environments. The research emphasizes that meaningful democratic education in Indonesia requires not only curriculum innovation but also systemic alignment between educational values, institutional structures, and cultural realities. This recontextualization offers insights for scholars, educators, and policymakers seeking to localize global educational theories within national ideological frameworks.

Abstract

Pemikiran filsafat tentang bagaimana manusia mampu berhadapan dengan perubahan dunia yang begitu pesat sudah ada sejak lama, salah satunya adalah aliran perenialisme. Aliran filsafat ini menekankan tentang nilai baik yang ada dalam diri manusia, karena manusia dilahirkan selalu dalam kondisi ‘baik’. Potensi baik inilah yang mengharuskan manusia untuk selalu berpikir, bersikap, dan berbuat secara baik pula. Oleh karena itu, dewasa ini berbagai upaya untuk mempertahankan dan meningkatkan kualitas ‘baik’ dalam diri manusia menjadi sangat penting. Salah satu di antaranya adalah dengan kegiatan pengembangan kreativitas. Kegiatan pengembangan kreativitas manusia didik dalam segala dimensinya menjadi hal yang mutlak untuk bisa eksis di abad 21. Pengembangan kreativitas peserta didik dalam proses pembelajaran dimaksudkan untuk memampukannya menghadapi berbagai masalah dan tantangan kehidupan di masa yang akan datang. Untuk itu pengembangan kreativitas siswa sekarang ini lebih dirasakan sebagai suatu kebutuhan di dalam proses pembelajaran. Dengan demikian, generasi-generasi yang akan datang adalah generasi yang memiliki karakter kreatif, mandiri, tangguh dan unggul dalam dalam menghadapi dan memecahkan berbagai masalah kehidupan.

Abstract

Dari sisi negatif, perkembangan teknologi informasi telah menciptakan permasalahan sosial yang cukup tinggi di kalangan orang muda Indonesia. Hal ini terjadi, selain karena tingkat literasi media yang masih rendah, juga disebabkan karena fasilitas pendidikan yang berbasis berpikir kritis belum terintegrasi secara baik. Padahal, salah satu potensi yang dimiliki oleh orang muda termasuk siswa sekolah menengah pertama adalah kemampuan untuk berpikir kritis. Mengingat hal ini, dengan belajar dari negara-negara maju, salah satu cara untuk menghindari siswa dan masyarakat dari dampak buruk penggunaan media sosial adalah upaya mengintegrasikan pendidikan berbasis berpikir kritis dalam kurikulum sekolah menengah. Dengan adanya pendidikan berbasis berpikir kritis siswa dapat memiliki pengetahuan, sikap, dan keterampilan untuk memecahkan berbagai permasalahan sosial, yang salah satu disebabkan karena penggunaan media sosial yang tidak kritis. Banyak penelitian menegaskan tentang pentingnya pendidikan berbasis berpikir kritis ini untuk diintegrasikan ke dalam sistem kurikulum, konten materi, dan pelaksanaan pembelajaran di kelas. Untuk membantu pemangku kepentingan pendidikan dalam mengintegrasikannya, maka perlu rekonstruksi gagasan tentang pendidikan berbasis berpikir kritis ini. Adapun metode rekonstruksi gagasan, selain didasarkan pada kenyataan faktual mengenai kondisi riil pembelajaran di tengah perkembangan teknologi informasi digital, juga berdasarkan pada hasil penelusuran terhadap berbagai literatur yang berkaitan erat dengan pentingnya pendidikan berbasis berpikir kritis.

Abstract

Abstract. The elderly, people with disabilities, people with HIV/AIDS, and people with mental disorders in vulnerable groups during the Covid-19 pandemic. This group must be given special attention because they are susceptible to Corona virus. The church as a social humanitarian institution is very concerned to pay attention to this group by doing charitable social services. This charitable social service aims to restore the physical and psychological state of this vulnerable group from the bad situation caused by the emergence of this Corona outbreak. These charitable social service activities are carried out using a combination of social work and social analysis methods. The impact of this activity is the recovery of physiological and psychological conditions of vulnerable groups. They were finally allowed to undergo this pandemic and new normal without any worries. Charitable social services have helped to make this group aware of their hygiene awareness in maintaining the condition of their bodies during this pandemic and in the future. The presence of the OiC Command Post in charitable social service activities in the form of providing social assistance in the form of food, vitamins and masks is enough to help vulnerable groups in meeting their nutritional needs during this pandemic. Adequate nutritional intake will greatly help maintain immunity and physical stamina, sustain economic needs, and maintain a healthy body. This charitable social service activity also had an impact on recognizing the existence of the Catholic Church as a religious social institution that not only offered heavenly (eschatological) salvation, but was also able to proclaim the real worldly salvation, now and here. Abstrak. Kaum lanjut usia/jompo, difabel, penderita HIV/AIDS, dan kaum yang mengalami gangguan mental termasuk kelompok rentan pada masa pandemi Covid-19. Kelompok ini mesti diperhatikan secara khusus karena rentan terpapar virus Corona. Gereja sebagai lembaga sosial kemanusiaan sangat berkepentingan untuk memperhatikan kelompok ini dengan melakukan pelayanan sosial karitatif. Pelayanan sosial karitatif ini bertujuan untuk memulihkan keadaan fisik dan psikis kelompok rentan ini dari situasi buruk akibat munculnya wabah Corona ini. Kegiatan pelayanan sosial karitatif ini dijalankan dengan menggunakan metode gabungan antara pekerjaan sosial dan analisis sosial. Dampak dari kegiatan ini adalah pulihnya keadaan fisiologis dan dan psikologis kelompok rentan. Mereka akhirnya boleh menjalani masa pandemi dan new normal ini tanpa rasa khawatir dan cemas. Pelayanan sosial karitatif telah turut menyadarkan kelompok ini agar tetap memiliki kesadaran higienik dalam memelihara dan menjaga kondisi tubuhnya selama masa pandemi ini dan masa-masa yang akan datang. Kehadiran tim posko OiC dalam kegiatan pelayanan sosial karitatif dalam bentuk pemberian bantuan sosial berupa sembako, vitamin dan masker cukup membantu kelompok rentan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan asupan gizi selama masa pandemi ini. Asupan gizi yang cukup akan sangat membantu mempertahankan imunitas dan stamina fisik, kelangsungan kebutuhan ekonomi, serta menjaga kesehatan tubuh. Kegiatan pelayanan sosial karitatif ini juga berdampak pada pengakuan terhadap eksistensi Gereja Katolik sebagai lembaga sosial religius yang tidak saja menawarkan keselamatan surgawi (eskatologis), tetapi juga mampu mewartakan secara nyata keselamatan duniawi, sekarang dan di sini.

Abstract

This research describes the implementation of the Workshop on Strengthening the Capacity of Innovative and Dedicative Principals in the Forum of Senior High School/Vocational High School Principals in West Manggarai using the Problem-Solving Simulation Model (PSSM). This activity was designed to address the gap in education quality in West Manggarai. The objectives of the workshop were to improve principals' leadership skills, develop contextual solutions to educational problems and build collaborative networks among principals. The workshop was conducted through four systematic stages: Problem Identification, Reflection, Evaluation, and Follow-up. Through the PSSM approach, the principals analyzed problems, developed contextual solutions, and simulated their implementation. The workshop successfully increased the capacity of 42 principals with a 68% increase in understanding of transformational leadership. Participants produced 10 innovative action plans based on the local context and formed five peer mentoring groups for program sustainability. The level of participant satisfaction reached 87% based on the end-of-program evaluation. The collaboration with Universitas Katolik Indonesia Santu Paulus Ruteng plays a strategic role in providing academic assistance and creating a sustainable learning ecosystem to improve the quality of education in West Manggarai.

Abstract

The objective of the workshop conducted in Manggarai Regency was to enhance the competency of Vocational High School (SMK) educators in implementing Project Based Learning (PjBL)-based Curriculum Merdeka teaching tools. This initiative aimed to augment teachers' comprehension and proficiency in facilitating meaningful learning experiences within their classrooms. The workshop adopted a participatory approach wherein teachers actively engaged in designing, executing, and evaluating project-based learning activities pertinent to their specialized domains. By doing so, they were equipped with practical skills to navigate challenges such as time management, assessing learning outcomes, and effectively managing project-based classrooms. Furthermore, the workshop fostered a collaborative learning milieu that not only addressed immediate obstacles but also prepared students for the complexities of the modern workforce. The analysis of post-workshop feedback unveiled several noteworthy findings. Participants demonstrated a commendable grasp of independent curriculum concepts, proficiency in analyzing curriculum documents, and a reflective stance towards best practices. They also exhibited a strong understanding of the PjBL model, its impact, and strategies for its seamless integration into the Independent Curriculum framework.The evaluation, based on a 1-4 scale, indicated that participants rated aspects such as understanding the PjBL model, integrating it with learning challenges, and planning PjBL-based teaching projects quite positively, falling into the "already good" category with an average score of 3.6. However, areas related to testing PjBL-based teaching tools received a lower rating of 3.2, suggesting room for improvement.

Abstract

This study is an evaluation of the implementation of the School Mover program in 23 junior high schools in East Manggarai Regency using the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) model. This study aims to analyze the Context, Input, Process, and Product of the program. The method used in this research is descriptive statistics to measure the perceptions and evaluations of school principals, teachers, school supervisors, facilitators, school committees and stakeholders. The results of statistical measurements of perceptions and evaluations were juxtaposed with data from interviews and document reviews. The results of the data analysis show that the Input, Process and Product aspects fall into the "Good" level, while the Context aspect falls into the "Weak/Lacking" category. Weakness or lack of context aspect is caused by many factors, among others, the lack of involvement of local communities and accommodating socio-cultural needs in the planning and implementation of the Mobilizing School Program. For this reason, schools need to conduct an in-depth analysis of the contextual factors that influence the implementation of the program, such as the socioeconomic conditions of the community, local culture, education infrastructure and local government policies. Schools need to consider the active involvement of all stakeholders, including local government, schools, teachers, parents and local communities, in formulating and implementing strategies to strengthen the context aspect.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to enhance the capacity of Guidance and Counseling (BK) services in Manggarai Regency through the Problem Solving Learning Model, targeting BK teachers in vocational education units. To achieve this, BK teachers underwent training focused on various skills including problem identification, problem analysis, solution development, and continuous monitoring. The objective was to equip BK teachers with the necessary tools and techniques to address challenges and provide meaningful guidance to students. The results of the training indicated a high level of enthusiasm among BK teachers in Manggarai Regency. Feedback assessments showed positive ratings, particularly in the areas of problem identification, problem analysis, solution development, and continuous monitoring plans, all of which received an average rating of 3.66, categorizing them as "good." However, the aspect of solution implementation work plans received a slightly lower rating of 3.1, indicating room for improvement. This finding highlights the need for continued attention and support from BK teachers, facilitators, school supervisors, officials, and the community to enhance the quality of guidance and counseling services further. Improving the solution implementation work plans can lead to more effective problem-solving strategies and contribute to overall improvements in learning and education quality throughout Manggarai Regency. In conclusion, while the training showed positive outcomes and high enthusiasm among participants, ongoing efforts and collaboration are necessary to sustain and build upon these improvements in guidance and counseling services for the benefit of students and educational institutions in the region.
