Abstract

The fertilizer subsidy policy is a government program aimed at providing affordable fertilizer to enhance the productivity of domestic commodities, including corn. In 2022, there was a change in the fertilizer subsidy policy, specifically a reduction in the number of subsidized fertilizer types and commodities. This policy change caused farmers to bear higher production costs. In addition, the decline in corn productivity at the research site serves as an indicator of the ineffectiveness of the fertilizer subsidy policy implementation and a source of production inefficiency. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the 2022 fertilizer subsidy policy implementation and analyze its impact on the technical efficiency of corn farming. The research was conducted in Kadur Subdistrict, Pamekasan Regency, East Java. The study employed a survey method involving 43 farmers who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using a quantitative descriptive approach, incorporating effectiveness analysis and technical efficiency measurement through the Cobb–Douglas Stochastic Frontier production function. The findings indicate that the effectiveness of the 2022 fertilizer subsidy policy implementation falls within the “highly effective” category. Furthermore, improving the effectiveness of non-Farmer Card (non-Kartu Tani) usage and the distribution of subsidized fertilizers significantly enhances technical efficiency.

Abstract

Abstract

Since 2014, Siam tangerine farmers in Temurejo Village, located in Banyuwangi Regency, have begun transitioning from Siam tangerine cultivation to Tejakula tangerine. This commodity shift aligns with agricultural policy set by the Directorate General of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture. However, the growth and yield performance of Tejakula tangerine cultivated in monoculture systems in Banyuwangi has been suboptimal compared to its development in Bali Province—the origin of the Tejakula tangerine germplasm. This study aims to assess the financial feasibility of a monoculture Tejakula tangerine plantation investment project in Banyuwangi Regency. The findings indicate that, financially, the investment is viable on a per-hectare basis. Furthermore, even under a scenario of a 5% decline in both yield and market price, coupled with a 5% increase in variable operational costs (assuming other factors remain constant), the project remains financially feasible. Among these variables, reductions in yield and price are relatively more sensitive in influencing the project's financial viability. Keywords: Tejakula Tangerine, Financial Feasibility, Monoculture, Investment.

Abstract

The integration of crops and livestock is a common practice in agriculture, particularly within the cashew farming sector. This approach supports the efficient use of limited land resources and promotes sustainable agricultural development.  Nevertheless, its economic implications for farmers warrant closer investigation. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between integrated farming practices and farm income in Sumenep District, East Java Province. The analysis employed the 4F framework (food, feed, fuel, and fertilizer) as the basis for integrated farming practice. The study used a quantitative approach. A total of 40 farmers were collected for the study and analysed using frequency distribution, income analysis, and the Chi-Square test). Most farmers applied the 3F system, with two variations: food–feed–fertilizer and food–fertilizer–fuel. An average income was Rp 24,369,217 per hectare, however, the majority of farmers reported income levels below Rp 5 million. The Chi-Square analysis revealed a statistically significant association between the implementation of integrated farming (through the 4F framework) and the income of cashew farmers. Further intervention is needed to strengthen integrated farming practices in order to improve farmers’ income.

Abstract

Women in farming activities have the same role as men, but their role is often ignored. Women are considered not to have a significant impact on farming activities. The aim of this research is to determine the role and contribution of women cashew farmers, determine cashew farming income, and determine the relationship between the involvement of women farmers and cashew farming income. The approach to understanding women's contributions in cashew farming uses the Harvard Method perspective (activity, marketing, access, control and benefits). This research used a mixed-method approach carried out on Madura Island, especially in Sampang and Sumenep Regencies. The qualitative approach used in-depth interviews with six key informants from the Agriculture and Agricultural Extension Services in the two districts. Furthermore, quantitative research involved a sample of 40 women cashew farmers from Sampang and Sumenep Regencies. The analysis stage uses distribution frequency, farming income analysis, and chi-square analysis. The results of this research show that in general women are involved in all categories (activities, marketing, access, control and benefits) with an average income of IDR 18,909,474. However, there is no relationship between the involvement of women farmers and cashew farming income. Therefore, further exploration of gender-sensitive research on women farmers is needed for the development of the cashew sector.
