Abstract

Independent living skills need to be mastered by every student both in dealing with everyday life and in the school environment in the 21st century. Students must be able to develop their life skills so they can be independent and develop optimally. This study aims to analyze the grouping of the level of choice of Independent Living Skills items in elementary schools based on the teacher's perception of students through a combination of the standard deviation value (SD) and the logit average value (Mean). The research was conducted on elementary school teachers in West Java. The analysis was carried out through the Rasch Model with the Winstep application. The results of this analysis can indicate that there are various levels of choice of Independent Living Skills items. The grouping is based on hard-to-select items with a logit value greater than +1SD; difficult categories with a logit value of 0.0 logit +1SD; easy-to-select categories 0.0 logit – 1SD; and it is very easy to select with a value smaller than -SD. From this study it can be concluded that the Independent Life Skills instrument items can identify various levels of student independence.  This instrument can be used for initial semester assessments in "Kurikulum Merdeka".

Abstract

Conventional Western-oriented career guidance models are not aligned with the value systems and practices of Indonesia's indigenous communities, creating significant gaps in service delivery. This research employs qualitative methodology with an ethnographic approach. This ethnographic study explores the career development practices of the community to develop a culturally sensitive career guidance framework. A qualitative ethnographic approach was employed within the community. Four key participants from communitywere purposively selected. Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews using a validated interview guide with a reliability score of 0, 89. Thematic analysis was conducted using NVivo, with member validation, yielding an inter-coder reliability of over 85%. Six interconnected themes were identified: pagawean adat as cultural preservation; family influence in intergenerational knowledge transmission; wangsit and spirituality in career decisions; traditional educational systems; success concepts based on kasuksesan adat; tradition-modernity dilemmas. Baduy career development operates through a holistic cultural framework that integrates spirituality, communal responsibility, and environmental preservation, challenging individualistic Western models. There is an urgent need to decolonize career development theories and create guidance models grounded in indigenous values for culturally responsive practice.

Abstract

Early marriage, declining marriage rates, and lack of readiness for marital life remain pressing social issues in Indonesia. These challenges are influenced by legal changes, socio-economic pressures, and limited access to marriage education. This study aims to analyze the level of self-preparation for marriage and family life among undergraduate students in the Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Program at UPI Tasikmalaya Campus. Employing a descriptive quantitative survey design, data were collected from 221 students across three cohorts using the Developmental Task Inventory (ITP). The results, processed with the ATP application, show that students’ readiness for marriage and family life remains at the individuality development stage, with mean scores between 6.50 and 6.61—below the overall developmental average. The lowest indicator was found in the aspect of self-preparation for marriage, highlighting specific gaps in practical understanding and readiness. The findings suggest that students require targeted guidance and counseling services focusing on emotional, financial, and communication skills to enhance their marriage readiness. This study concludes that comprehensive premarital education and counseling interventions in higher education settings are essential for fostering mature, well-prepared individuals capable of building harmonious families. The results are beneficial for educators, counselors, and policymakers in designing effective marriage readiness programs. Future research is recommended to explore intervention models and the impact of marriage education on marital outcomes.
