Abstract

Islam is a comprehensive religion and ideology that encompasses all aspects of human life. However, many Muslims today misunderstand or misinterpret its holistic concept. This issue arises from intellectual limitations within the Muslim community and the pervasive influence of secularism and liberalism in the Islamic world. This article aims to clarify Islam’s perspective on domestic and foreign politics, focusing on its principles, objectives, and practices to provide a more accurate understanding of Islamic foreign policy. Using a qualitative approach, this study collects data from Islamic sources and other relevant literature to explore the foundational concepts of Islamic foreign policy, including both theoretical and practical frameworks. The study argues that Islam forms the basis of Islamic foreign policy, primarily aimed at spreading its message (da'wah). This can be achieved through two main approaches: forceful means (warfare) and peaceful strategies (diplomacy). The paper highlights the importance of consulting expert analyses to optimize foreign policy interests in line with Islamic principles. This research provides foundational insights into Islamic foreign policy and underscores the need for further detailed studies on practical and specific issues in this area. Future research should focus on actionable strategies to implement Islamic foreign policy in a modern global context.

Abstract

South Korea is promoted as a Muslim-friendly tourist destination, with an increasing Muslim population, as well as government initiatives in providing facilities that support Muslim needs, but discrimination against the Muslim community still occurs in the country. This research will discuss the phenomenon of Islamophobia in South Korea using the concept of Islamophobia from The Runnymede Trust which identifies four main indicators of Islamophobic practices: discrimination, exclusion, violence, and prejudice. The research method used is a qualitative research method by collecting online documents including journals, websites, social media and films relevant to this research and analyzing them with a content analysis approach to find forms of Islamophobia in South Korea. The research shows that the Muslim community experiences difficulties in accessing employment, public services, and faces negative stereotypes reinforced by the media. Cases of hate speech, refusal to build mosques, and barriers to worship reflect the deep-rooted Islamophobia in South Korean society. This research provides insight into the contradiction between the government's campaign and the social reality faced by the Muslim community in South Korea, and analyzes the factors that influence Islamophobic sentiments.

Abstract

Abstract

The issue of Israeli occupation in Palestine has become a major concern of the Islamic world and the international community for more than seven decades. Various Islamic organizations respond to this issue through social action, humanity, diplomacy, and military resistance. This article analyzes various Islamic movements that support Palestine by using the concept of social movement from Tilly & Tarrow (2015), which includes a sustainable claim campaign, public action, solidarity show, and dependence on networks and organizations. This study uses a qualitative approach by collecting data from various online sources, including academic publications, organizational reports, and social media. The results showed that Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) adopted a humanitarian and diplomatic approach to supporting Palestine by raising funds, taking solidarity actions, and advocating in international forums. The Salafi movement is more focused on the spread of religious da'wah and education; Ikhwanul Muslimin, linked to Hamas, led a direct military struggle against Israel. Meanwhile, Hizbut Tahrir views that the release of Palestine can only be achieved through the restoration of the Islamic Khilafah by organizing a global advocacy campaign and mass mobilization. This study concluded that although the strategies and approaches of these organizations were different, their main objectives remained the same, namely rejecting the Israeli occupation and fighting for Palestinian independence.

Abstract

Indonesia's support for Palestine is a consistent attitude rooted in the principles of anti-colonialism, historical solidarity, and a free and active foreign policy, as stated in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution. Since the recognition of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1974 and the official recognition of Palestine as an independent state in 1988, Indonesia has shown its commitment to supporting Palestinian independence. This study aims to analyse Indonesia's historical role in defending Palestine and the diplomatic steps taken in response to the latest developments in the conflict. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive and historical analysis methods. Data were obtained through literature studies from various secondary sources, including academic journals, official reports, and statements by the Indonesian government in various international forums. The results of this study show that Indonesia consistently supports Palestine through diplomacy at the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as through humanitarian assistance. In the face of Israeli aggression in 2023-2024, Indonesia is taking strategic steps in the form of diplomatic condemnation, raising global support, and increasing humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people. Indonesia plays an important role in supporting Palestine through historical and sustainable diplomacy. Indonesia's foreign policy adheres to the principles of anti-colonialism and the struggle for human rights, making it one of the most vocal countries in supporting Palestine in the international arena.
