Abstract

Cocoa is one of important commodities for the economy of Indonesia. However, national exports of the commodity has declined due to decreasing of domestic cocoa production. For enhancing cocoa production, potassium fertilization is required. Potassium (K) is an essential macronutrient in the physiology, anatomy, and yields processes. Anatomically, K is needed in the elongation of meristem tissue as well as for increasing the yields of fruit and seed. The objectives of this research included the study of the effect of K fertilizer dose and determination of optimum K doses on root anatomy development as well as the yield of cocoa pods. This research was conducted on the cocoa plantation of PT. Pagilaran. Applied doses of K fertilization consisted of 0, 150, 300, 450, and 600 g KCl/plant in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 5 replications. Observed variables consisted of root anatomy and yield of cocoa pods. The results indicated that the dose of K fertilization significantly influenced both stele and xylem diameters of cocoa roots but insignificantly effected the thickness of cork tissue, phloem diameter, and the thickness of cambium tissue. Moreover, the dose also showed significant effect on the number of beans per pod, the weight of 100 beans, as well as the fresh and dry weight of beans per plant. It was also revealed that the dose showed no significant effect on length, diameter, and weight of the cocoa pods. It implied that K fertilization dose had effect on root anatomical properties and yield of cacao.

Abstract

Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara penghasil kelapa sawit terbesar di dunia. Namun, keberhasilan ini juga menghasilkan tantangan berupa limbah biomassa, salah satunya adalah tandan kosong kelapa sawit. Desa Bangkal merupakan salah satu wilayah yang memiliki potensi akses terhadap limbah tandan kosong kelapa sawit dari perkebunan kelapa sawit di sekitarnya. Namun, penggunaan limbah ini di tingkat masyarakat masih sangat minim dan belum optimal sehingga potensi untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat melalui pengelolaan limbah ini belum dimanfaatkan secara maksimal. Akan tetapi Pupuk organik berbasis tandan kosong kelapa sawit mampu memperbaiki struktur tanah dan meningkatkan produksi tandan buah segar hingga 34% dibandingkan pemupukan standar. Pengabdian kepada masyarat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman dan pelatihan kepada masyarakat mengenai pemanfaatan tandan kosong kelapa sawit sebagai bahan baku pupuk organik yang ramah lingkungan dan bernilai ekonomis, serta mendorong pengelolaan limbah kelapa sawit secara berkelanjutan melalui penyuluhan, pelatihan dan praktik, serta evaluasi pengetahuan dan keterampilan peserta dilakukan melalui kuesioner yang diisi sebelum dan sesudah kegiatan. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan dan keterampilan petani di Kelurahan Bangkal mengenai pembuatan pupuk organik dari limbah seperti tandan kosong kelapa sawit meningkat setelah pelatihan. Dengan adanya pelatihan ini diharapkan kedepannya para petani di Kelurahan Bangkal dapat secara mandiri mengolah limbah organik seperti limbah pertanian atau perkebunan menjadi pupuk organik. The Innovation of Processing Palm Oil Empty Fruit Bunches into Compost to Support Environmentally Friendly Agriculture in Bangkal Village, Cempaka District Abstract Indonesia is one of the largest palm oil producing countries in the world. However, this success also creates challenges in the form of biomass waste, one of which is empty oil palm bunches. Bangkal Village is one of the areas that has potential access to empty oil palm bunch waste from surrounding oil palm plantations. However, the use of this waste at the community level is still very minimal and not optimal so that the potential to improve community welfare through the management of this waste has not been utilized optimally. However, organic fertilizer based on empty oil palm bunches can improve soil structure and increase fresh fruit bunch production by up to 34% compared to standard fertilization. This community service aims to provide understanding and training to the community regarding the use of empty oil palm bunches as raw materials for organic fertilizers that are environmentally friendly and have economic value, as well as to encourage sustainable management of oil palm waste through counseling, training and practice, and evaluation of participant knowledge and skills is carried out through questionnaires filled out before and after the activity. The results of community service activities show that the knowledge and skills of farmers in Bangkal Village regarding the manufacture of organic fertilizers from waste such as empty oil palm bunches increased after training. With this training, it is hoped that in the future farmers in Bangkal Village will be able to independently process organic waste such as agricultural or plantation waste into organic fertilizer.

Abstract

Abstrak Wilayah Banjarbaru Utara termasuk daerah dengan penduduk yang padat. Hampir setengah dari jumlah penduduk di Kecamatan Loktabat Utara berada di Kelurahan Loktabat Utara. Tingginya jumlah penduduk yang padat akan diikuti dengan meningkatnya sampah, baik sampah organik maupun sampah anorganik. Masalah sampah ini menjadi masalah yang sangat komplek. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah upaya untuk mengatasi sampah dengan gerakan menyadarkan dan menumbuhkan kepedulian dalam mengolah sampah. Metode yang digunakan untuk menyadarkan adalah dengan memberikan penyuluhan terhadap masyarakat mengenai pemanfaatan sampah organik pada kelompok Dasa Wiswa Teratai 8. Penyuluhan yang dilakukan disertai dengan praktik pengolahan sampah organik dengan metode ember tumpuk. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penyuluhan menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan pengetahuan mengenai sampah organik yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pembuatan POC dan kompos. Pengetahuan  mengenai sampah organik yang mudah terurai dari responden 88% kemudian meningkat menjadi 100%, untuk sampah organik yang sulit terurai masih ada 12% menjadi 0%. Peningkatan masyarakat untuk mengolah sampah dengan ember tumpuk sebagai kelebihan dengan metode lainnya sebesar 8% dari 92% menjadi 100% tertarik. Ketertarikan masyarakat mengelola sampah dengan metode ember tumpuk berdasarkan tingkat kemudahannya sebesar 72%. Melalui pelatihan ini kelompok Dasa Wisma Teratai 8 mendapat informasi tentang pengelolaan sampah organic menggunakan metode ember tumpuk dan mendapat teknologi pengetahuan baru tentang metode pengomposan. Pelatihan ini juga meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan peserta dari rerata 63,2% menjadi 84,4%. Kata kunci: sampah organik; ember tumpuk; penyuluhan; kepedulian; penduduk Abstract The North Banjarbaru area is one of the regions with a dense population. Almost half of the population in the North Loktabat District resides in the North Loktabat Urban Village. The high population density will be followed by an increase in waste, both organic and inorganic. This waste problem has become a very complex issue. The aim of this service is an effort to tackle waste through a movement to raise awareness and foster concern in managing waste. The method used to raise awareness is by providing counseling to the community regarding the utilization of organic waste in the Dasa Wiswa Teratai 8 group. The counseling conducted was accompanied by practice in processing organic waste using the stacked bucket method. The results obtained from the counseling showed an increase in knowledge about organic waste that can be used as materials for making POC and compost. Knowledge about easily decomposable organic waste among respondents increased from 88% to 100%, while for hard-to-decompose organic waste, it decreased from 12% to 0%. The increase in community interest in processing waste using stacked buckets, as an advantage compared to other methods, was 8%, increasing from 92% to 100%. Community interest in managing waste using the stacked bucket method based on its ease of use was 72%. The Dasa Wisma Teratai 8 group learned new technological information about composting techniques and learned how to manage organic waste utilizing the stacked bucket approach. Additionally, the participants' knowledge and skills grew from an average of 63.2% to 84.4% as a result of this training. Keywords: concern; counseling; organic waste; population; stacked buckets.
