Abstract

This research aims to examine the influence of acceptance of LGBT people in Thailand on the development of LGBT social movements in Indonesia, as well as identify the challenges faced by LGBT people in Indonesia. Using the New Social Movement and Network Social Movement approaches, this research explores the role of social networks and the cultural, religious, and traditional factors that influence public acceptance of LGBT people in both countries. A qualitative method with a descriptive approach was used to analyze secondary data obtained from various sources, including official documents, books, scientific journals, and previous research reports. The results show that LGBT acceptance in Thailand, influenced by cultural values and Buddhism, has created a more inclusive environment for LGBT people. More inclusive policies, such as anti-discrimination laws, as well as positive representations of LGBT people in the media and popular culture in Thailand, triggered the emergence of social movements supporting LGBT rights in Southeast Asia, including in Indonesia. However, in Indonesia, LGBT social movements face greater challenges due to the strong cultural and religious traditions of conservative Islam. As a result, it has been difficult for LGBT social movements to gain widespread acceptance, and discrimination and stigma against LGBT people remain strong. Nonetheless, the positive influence of Thailand helps motivate LGBT activists in Indonesia to continue fighting for their rights through advocacy, campaigns and public education.

Abstract

The economic revival became the main locomotive for China to continue its modernization and military strength building program. As a representation of the 21st century's global power, China has proven a stronger and more aggressive revival. Aggressiveness in building military strength in quality and quantity has influenced the security order in the Asian region and encouraged him to be more assertive in dealing with security issues involving his region. India is one of the most threatened countries. The spread of military power along with provocative actions of China in the border region with India, the intensification of the development of maritime facilities and infrastructure in the Indian Ocean region, as well as the superiority of Chinese combat power over India are some of the strong basic reasons for India to make China a major threat to the security of its territory. With limited strength and combat capabilities under China, India responded to China's military threat by increasing its defense power. Defensive military strategy became the most rational choice and more profitable for India in order to reduce the aggressiveness and threat of the Chinese military power. Keywords : China’s military power; Chinese military threat; India’s military strategy

Abstract

As part of climate change mitigation efforts and Indonesia's commitment to realizing low-emission land-based development, the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and the World Bank are following up on the REDD+ agenda through the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF). The agreement aims to provide full support for increasing Indonesia's capacity in formulating a national strategy in realizing reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. East Kalimantan Province is the selected region to follow the emission reduction target. The target set is to reduce emissions by 41% in 2030. In its development, the framework has entered the implementation phase and results-based payments. However, the distribution of incentives from selling carbon to Indigenous peoples as parties who have rights to carbon and are involved in forest management initiatives has not benefited directly. This research aims to analyze further how the realization of profit sharing and fulfillment of Indigenous peoples' rights over forest management in the FCPF project is a form of coherence in climate change governance towards Indigenous peoples' rights in a fair manner. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data collection was triangulated through interviews and literature for further reduction and conclusions drawn. The results of this research state that the lack of inclusion of Indigenous communities in an inclusive and participatory manner in the carbon trading framework has the potential to reduce the rights of Indigenous communities to decentralized forest management and their welfare in carbon trading projects.

Abstract

Abstract

Education plays a central role in shaping the character and civilization of a dignified nation. In Indonesia, the role of elementary schools is crucial as the foundational stage in forming students' identity and character. One of the key components of the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) policy is strengthening the Profil Pelajar Pancasila (Pancasila Student Profile). Through this initiative, the values embedded in the Pancasila Student Profile—such as mutual cooperation (gotong royong), diversity (kebinekaan), independence (kemandirian), and critical thinking—are successfully introduced and cultivated in students through hands-on and reflective activities. This effort also demonstrates that even abroad, Pancasila-based character education can still be instilled and developed through adaptive and collaborative learning.

Abstract

The Indo-Pacific has become at the forefront of geostrategic rivalry between the United States and China, which has implications for region’s political, security and economic stability. As the only regional institution with multilateral capacity in the Indo-Pacific, ASEAN faces the challenge of maintaining its neutrality while strengthening its centrality. This context explains how, through the 2019 ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), ASEAN seeks to reinforce its stabilizing role by adopting preventive, mitigative, and adaptive strategies in response to regional power shifts. Using a descriptive qualitative method and the statement of strategy concept contextualized with neorealism, this study analyses the AOIP is an ASEAN’s strategic response to regional power competition between the great powers. The finding shows that AOIP, as neutral framework, aims to foster cooperation in various sectors, including industry. ASEAN's neutrality is also tested in policymaking, particularly among Southeast Asia members, as it strives to manage tension between major powers while maintaining its coherence, relevance and influence in the evolving Indo Pacific order.

Abstract

Abstract This study describes the dilemma and the role of UNHCR in dealing with the problem of climate refugees in India. India is the host country for most refugees in South Asia however it still but has not ratified the 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol regarding Refugees status and protocols. South Asia is one of the areas that are very vulnerable to climate change, population density, poverty, and lack of resources for climate change adaptation are the main obstacles for the region, also the geographical condition of South Asia which borders the Himalayas in the north and east, the Indian Ocean in the southern part. These two geographical boundaries are vulnerable to climate change, this study uses the theory of transnational interaction between countries and the theory of intergovernmental organizations (IGOs). This type of research uses descriptive research and uses qualitative analysis techniques. The method used in this research data collection is a literature study. This study has an initial argument, namely the role of UNHCR in India is Refugee Status Determination (RSD) in the form of interviewing asylum seekers and verifying documents for refugee status which then issues certified temporary residence to people who meet the criteria, and assists the voluntary repatriation of refugees by coordinate with relevant countries. By carrying out its duties, UNHCR also collaborates with NGOs in India such as Don Bosco Ashalyan, Young Men Christian Association (YMCA), National Institution for Transforming India (Niti Ayong), and Social Law Information Center (SLIC), Development and Justice Initiative (DAJI). , Save the Children India (SCI), Indian Society of International Law (ISIL).

Abstract

Plastic waste is a persistent material that poses a serious environmental threat due to its resistance to natural decomposition. Indonesia generates approximately 27.3 million tons of waste annually, of which 19.8% is plastic, highlighting the urgent need for effective recycling strategies. This study aims to design and develop an extruder machine to recycle High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) waste into value-added plastic panels. The research methodology comprised literature review, needs identification, concept design development using the Ulrich method, concept selection through the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), fabrication, and machine performance testing. Concept 1 was selected as the best alternative among the three proposed design concepts, achieving the highest Alternative Weight Evaluation score of 35.14, compared to 34.65 for Concept 3. The fabricated machine measures 779.5 mm in length, 610 mm in width, and 689.3 mm in height, powered by a 1 HP electric motor and equipped with four 300 W heaters. Performance tests demonstrated that the machine successfully melted HDPE and produced plastic panels with uniform surfaces, good material density, and minimal voids, although the resulting color tended to be dark. The findings confirm that the developed extruder machine effectively supports HDPE recycling into functional products, contributing to waste reduction efforts and promoting sustainable plastic waste management technologies.
