Abstract

This article aims to understand the grammatical errors in the translated text of "Qasas Al-Nabiyyīn" by Abu Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method to identify morphological and syntactic errors in the translated text. Data collection was done by collecting the original text of the source language and its translation in the book "Qasas Al-Nabiyyīn." The data collection steps involved identifying pairs of both languages for grammatical analysis, followed by data analysis to identify grammatical errors. The analysis results showed 18 grammatical errors in the translation of the book, consisting of 7 morphological errors and 11 syntactic errors. These errors impact the incompatibility of the message contained in the source text. In order to correct the grammatical errors, a correction analysis was conducted on the target language, especially in Indonesian, by referring to the applicable grammatical rules. This article concludes that correcting grammatical errors can improve the accuracy and clarity of the message in the translation of "Qasas Al- Nabiyyīn" so that it can be more effectively conveyed to readers who speak the target language. This analysis contributes to a practical understanding of the importance of paying attention to grammatical aspects in translating religious texts. Recommendations for future research include developing more effective translation strategies involving source and target language experts. Research can expand the scope of analysis to explore semantic and pragmatic aspects of translated texts. In addition, further research could consider the impact of cultural context on the understanding and interpretation of religious texts in translation. The results of this study are expected to provide a foundation for developing better translation guidelines, improve the quality of translated religious texts, and facilitate a deeper understanding of essential messages in religious literature.

Abstract

Digital controversies around Al-Māʾidah 5:51 and the Ahok case have sharpened struggles over Qur’anic authority in Indonesia’s public sphere. This article examines how the progressive portal Islami.co constructs religious legitimacy and counter-narratives in this context. Using qualitative critical discourse analysis, it analyzes fourteen opinion and expository articles on verse politicization, Qur’an translation, and digital daʿwah, applying Fairclough’s three-dimensional model and van Leeuwen’s legitimation categories. The study finds three mechanisms of legitimation: (1) semantic reframing of key terms such as awliyāʾ/wali; (2) intertextual authority through selective use of classical tafsīr, fiqh, and contemporary scholarship; and (3) moral evaluation foregrounding justice, maṣlaḥah, and plural coexistence. These strategies underwrite counter-narratives that decouple voting for non-Muslim leaders from accusations of betrayal, critique terjemahisme and post-truth uses of state translations, and oppose Islam marah with an ethic of Islam ramah. The findings show how progressive Islamic counter-publics linguistically contest conservative monopolies over Qur’anic discourse.

Abstract

This article discusses sound change and sound correspondence in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), Sudanese Khartoum Arabic Dialect (SAKD), and Chadian Sudanese Arabic Dialect (SACD). The focus is on the relationship between form and meaning as seen in cognates and the alternation between strong and weak sonorants through lenition and fortition. It also highlights phonological processes such as apheresis, apocope, and syncope within the syllable structure of each variety. This study addresses a gap in comparative Arabic dialect phonology. Data were obtained from one Sudanese and two Indonesian students. The analysis follows Crowley’s theory using a qualitative-descriptive approach. The main data source is 207 basic words from Swadesh’s list. The results show 16 cognates, 190 word-pairs with phonemic variation, and several cases of sound change. These findings are spread across various word classes, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, and adverbs, illustrating the rich diversity within Arabic dialectal phonology in Semitic linguistic evolution.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze moral and spiritual values embedded in the Qirā’ah texts of the Grade X Arabic Language Textbook for Madrasah Aliyah and to examine their potential internalization in Arabic language learning. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis as the primary analytical framework. The main data source consists of six Qirā’ah instructional units, while limited classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with Arabic language teachers were used for contextual and methodological triangulation. Data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation, member checking, and the application of naturalistic trustworthiness criteria, including credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. Data analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing as proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The theoretical framework integrates perspectives of Islamic spirituality (al-Faruqi, Nasr, Saritoprak) with ethical and character theories (MacIntyre, Shapiro, Rachels & Rachels). The findings indicate that moral values are consistently embedded across all Qirā’ah texts, particularly through representations of social ethics, personal responsibility, discipline, cooperation, and everyday conduct. Spiritual values appear more selectively and are mainly associated with religious awareness, worship practices, Qur’anic references, and ethical principles grounded in Islamic teachings. Overall, the study demonstrates that Qirā’ah texts function not only as tools for developing linguistic competence but also as meaningful media for character education and Islamic spiritual development, supporting the objectives of Islamic education and the national curriculum framework.
