Abstract

Abstract. This article aims to describe the economy of oil palm smallholders in post-conflict Aceh. The data for this study were gathered through observation, interviews, and a review of the relevant literature. This study found that oil palm plantations were one of the industries that helped the people of North Aceh get back on their feet economically after the conflict. The peaceful conditions in post-conflict Aceh propelled the former GAM combatants to plunge into the oil palm plantation sector because the potential for land was quite wide. The success of the oil palm plantation activities by former GAM combatants encouraged the community to participate in planting oil palm so that the area of oil palm plantations continued to increase in North Aceh, and then the community's economy also increased. These conditions strengthened peace because GAM combatants successfully switched from conflict-related activities to economic ones.

Abstract

This study examines the Shift in the Meaning of Commodity and Shopaholic Among KIP-Lecture Recipients (Student Study of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Malikussaleh University). The purpose of this study is to find out the shopping practices and motivations that drive students' consumptive actions. The approach in this study is a qualitative method using a case study phenomenological approach using Jean Baudrillard's theory of Consumption Society about consuming sign values instead of functional values. In a postmodern society, consumption is no longer a pure object. As in the results of this study, students consume clothes as fashion and consume other commodities in the form of skincare, and cosmetics. The consumption carried out by students is not to meet needs but the desire and value of the signs contained in the commodities consumed. Some of the motivations of students in acting consumptive include the need for social recognition (validation), wanting to look beautiful, desire, Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), and Prestige.

Abstract

The Helsinki MoU is the peace agreement signed on August 15, 2005, between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement (Gerakan Aceh Merdeka, GAM) in Helsinki, Finland. In the context of political participation, the MoU urges Acehnese to increase women's participation in politics through affirmative action, particularly a 30% quota in legislative bodies. However, after 15 years of the MoU, Acehnese women’s participation in politics is still yet far from the quota. Thus, this study aims to examines the effectiveness affirmative action policy through the landscape of gender and the persistent gaps between policy intent and outcomes. This study used a qualitative reseach method with post-positivist approach. The data were collected through in-depth interviews with members of the Aceh People’s Representative Council (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Aceh, DPRA), political party representatives, and women's empowerment officials. The secondary sources were derived from legislation, reports, and media. Findings reveal persistent structural, cultural, and institutional barriers, such as patriarchal norms, limited political support, insufficient resources, and weak institutional enforcement—that hinder the effectiveness of affirmative action policies. As the result we found that while legal frameworks exist, the actual empowerment of women in Aceh’s political sphere remains constrained and symbolic.

Abstract

The emergence of homeless people in Lhokseumawe City is influenced by structural factors, especially the economic system that causes some people to be marginalized and unable to meet basic needs. Aceh Qanun Number 11 of 2013 concerning Social Welfare, specifically Articles 45 and 46 paragraph (1), requires local governments to address this problem. This study aims to analyze the Lhokseumawe City Government's policy in handling homeless people through the Social Service, and identify the obstacles faced. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis is carried out through reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Qanun has not been effective, characterized by budget limitations, minimal facilities such as shelters, and a lack of ongoing development. External obstacles include cultural influences, minimal family support, and low public awareness. The conclusion of the study confirms that this policy has not been able to significantly reduce the number of homeless people. Recommendations include strengthening cross-sector coordination, and providing adequate social rehabilitation facilities to support the reintegration of homeless people into society.
